World's oldest woman dies at 116

Link.

The world’s oldest woman, Maria Esther de Capovilla, 116, has died in Ecuador.

Elizabeth Bolden of Memphis, Tennessee is now the WOW. She’s 11 months younger than de Capovilla was.

I like following the oldest people awards because the churn rate tends to be pretty high and it never stagnates for long.

It was just a matter of time…

A 110-year old woman just died in St. Louis in the past week.

Doesn’t it always happen in threes?

I like following these stories too. Thanks for the link.
I’d like to think I have longevity genes. My paternal grandfather died at 106 (and still fairly sharp, he grew up an Iowa farmer, and was from Irish stock), and both grandmothers died in their 90’s (one German and the other Swedish). My maternal grandfather died in the 20’s as a result of injuries he received in WWI, but he was from strong Swedish stock. My dad is 80 and gets around like a 40 year old. Of course, they never abused their bodies and health the way I have. I’m lucky I made it to 50. Must be those genes.

Nobody tell Grandma, please! She’ll take it as personal offense that her life expectation isn’t at least 125.

She started counting backwards to 100 when she hit 75. She’s now at “eight to go”, and in such good health than she decided to give cataract surgery a go (she should have gotten it 15 years ago) and the doctors went and performed it. They don’t do surgery on people who look like they may not leave the operating room, you know. She now complains that she sees dirt and wrinkles she didn’t use to see. She’s got a bitsy of arthritis on her right knee. Her blood profile could be used as an example of “what your blood analysis should look like”. They decided to check her heart before the surgery; this isn’t usual procedure for eye surgery (being a topical anesthetic and all), but given her age they thought they better. Her heart clocks in at about 40yo.

This month we celebrated her younger sister’s 90th birthday.

Gramps, 9 months younger than his wife, has no intestines any more. Five years ago he slipped while watching a soccer match, broke his neck. It healed within a month. Last February he had a stroke, 40% partial paralysis on the right side. The doctors are listing him as “99% recovery” because, Hell and Damnation, we just can’t say a 90 year old dude with a colostomy bag healed better than any freaking 40 year old! His heart clocks in at about age 30, we think it’s from lack of use :stuck_out_tongue:

Mom, Auntie, my female cousin and me have some bets running on whether both will reach 95 (we all bet she will); both will reach 100 (we all bet she will); both will reach 105 (we all bet he won’t).

Will there be an autopsy?
