Worst. Sequel. EVER! Part Deux

Rocky 5.

Rocky 3 was pretty bad too, but at least it had a badass Mr. T and lots of unintentional comedy.

I couldn`t agree more and I continue to be baffled how people like this so much. I guess because the joker was legitimately pretty good?

In spite of all the unnecessary junk you mentioned, I still felt they basically crammed two movies into one. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s death and Aaron Eckhart’s injury/disfigurement had no real impact because it was so brief and anticlimactic. It could have happened early in the movie and Batman and Harvey Dent could have had an actual emotional reaction to it, but they didn’t. Or it could have been the more obvious choice and been a climactic last carnage done by the Joker before he gets caught. But they didn’t do that either, it was just a blip.

Then the movie keeps going and the Joker tries to blow up some boats filled with prisoners and assholes and unceremoniously gets caught. At the same time we’re introduced to a whole “new” character/villain, Two Face, who isn`t developed at all. There’s no time for him to do anything super villainy so movie ends with Batman thwarting a villain about as evil as a character on Law and Order SUV or The Shield.

What they ought to have done is make the Joker plot a bit more focused and had it end with the Joker getting caught, Gyllenhaal blowing up, and Eckhart being scarred. Then they could start the next movie either immediately thereafter or let some time progress, but in either event take a whole movie to develop Two Face into a villain. It’s not even that they needed to make Harvey Dent slowly become evil. It’s a Batman movie, they don`t need subtlety. The problem was that all he did was kill some dirty cops who blew up his girlfriend.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the curse of the super hero sequel. A second movie needs a second (or more) villain. The only time I remember it working was the second Tim Burton Batman. I am still boycotting Spiderman 3 because I don’t think it would be possible to do justice to Venom as one of three villains.

The Two Jakes, sequel to Chinatown. Nicholson chewed the scenery something awful and proved beyond all doubt that his forte is NOT as a director.

You are quite correct. It’s not. (And I don’t even like Venom)

Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.
And I always thought Godfather II was pretty bad. Then Godfather III came along.

I don’t know if French Connection II was necessarily bad but I only saw it once compared to quite a few viewings of the first.

There IS a film entitled Plan 10 From Outer Space. It is based on Mormon theology. The alien leader is a woman who was one of Joseph Smith’s wives. Her minions have heads that look like beehives.

Superman III was far inferior to I & II, but I did think it was fun! S IV: The Quest for Peace was just awful! Most people aren’t even aware it existed- did it get a theatrical release? I found it by surprise at the video rental place way back in the day.

Transformers 2. It’s not even close IMO.

Actually, while we are on the subject I also think that Transformers 2 is the worst movie ever made (10,000 BC and the Rollerball remake round out my top 3, but neither of them are sequels anyway)

If you want to read something truly hilarious on this very subject, I recommend clicking on the following link: http://www.toplessrobot.com/2009/06/bonus_robs_transformers_2_faqs.php?page=1

It’s not like Transformers 1 was anything special.

As far as I’m concerned, there was only one Matrix movie. A really good movie that was never followed up on.

I never understood all of the hatred towards this sequel. It’s got more good music, and rips off the first story but still keeps it interesting. It’s just missing Belushi (doesn’t even have Jim, which is a plus!).

Yes, agreed. Lost World sucked on so many levels. But Jurassic Park 3 was great, almost on the level of the original. Is part 4 ever coming out?

This was a recent Nostalgia Critic episode. Worth watching.

All good mentions so far: “Whole Ten Yards” sucked, “The Lost World” sucked.

I submit: “National Lampoon’s European Vacation”
There’s no way it could compete with the brilliance of the original “Vacation”, but the level of the humor was…“3’s Company” bad - you could see every gag coming miles away !
However, like the “Jurassic Park” franchise, the “Christmas Vacation” was actually pretty funny.

This is what I came in here to post.

I also agree that it is the worst movie ever made (in proportion to its budget).

It’s true, the first one wasn’t anything to write home about, but you would’ve thought Bay would’ve listened and learned from his mistakes. He went the opposite direction.

Okay, I’d blocked this one out of my mind, but when I read the title here, I quite literally drew in a gasp of horror and the entire book flooded back into my mind.

So yeah, not a movie, but definitely one of the worst sequels ever.

…And thank you for making it not-blocked-out for me anymore. Now the nightmares are going to start again.

Predator 2 sucked, especially when compared with it’s man movie mantacular predecessor. See also Die Hard 2

I thought “An American Werewolf In London” was SUCH a great movie, with the perfect mix of humor, horror and a killer musical score…

“An American Werewolf In Paris” was one of the worst movies of all time (even with the French stunner Julie Delphy nude on-screen for a good 10 min.) and it never should have been made.

The fact that “AAWIP” didn’t come out until 10 or so years after the original “An American Werewolf In London” should have been a warning to me that something was up.

You take that back! The sequel was horrid but Jurrasic Park was awesome with terrifying dinosaur goodness.

I have to disagree. The dino effects were great. But the scientists made all kinds of stupid mistakes that were massively unrealistic.

I know its heresy, but I’ve never understood the hate this movie gets – beyond the cult-beloved-whatever status of the original. I saw BB2K in the theater, and found it thoroughly enjoyable – i mean, how does it really differ from the original? We’ve got, let’s see…(a) a winking-joke of a thin plot, (b) a bunch of ridiculous comic action sequences (with the famous police car pileup taken even further), and (c) a series of musical numbers (which you either love or hate). What’s the major diff?
