How are his supporters, or anyone really, going to be able to tell if he has dementia?
He starts sounding coherent?
The need for attention and adulation is mind boggling. Any desire to do good things for the country is way down on his list of priorities and I don’t understand why that isn’t a deal breaker for 74 million voters.
I’ve never seen any reason to suspect that it’s on his list of priorities at all.
I read a pretty good analysis suggesting he is suffering from untreated diabetes. Managing blood sugar is crucial.
For the opening question, I think it will depend on what polls say. If he doesn’t seem too likely to win, or his health gets worse, he will “nominate” a successor. I’m guessing Nikki Haley thought about this as an explanation for her pro-Trump flip flop.
Perhaps hydoxychloroquine or injections of bleach would cure his diabetes. It worked so well for his covid.
He is not a healthy creature, physically or mentally. Will he be willing in 3 years to give up his life of leisure for the rigors of a campaign? I don’t know. On one hand, there is nothing he enjoys as much as seeing the masses adore him at superspreader events. On the other, he gave zero shits about actually doing the job, or any job for that matter. I can only hope the criminal justice system takes the choice out of his hands.
The civil justice system might have something to do with his eventual decision, too, but I wouldn’t mind his political ambitions dying in each. Better safe than sorry.
I agree. Ditto for the criminal justice system, which I think would be even more effective.
Running for office from prison is difficult but not impossible. I’d like to see that roadblock in his path.
With him having taken the Presidency down so many legal rat-holes already, why not one more?
I’d appreciate it if you would accompany me the next time I go to buy a lottery ticket. The Trump Org investigation just went from civil to criminal:
(on preview, sorry about Trump’s greasy mug appearing in the thumbnail, the actual video is the usual MSNBC talking heads discussing what this all means)
I hope the entire family goes up the river with the exception of Barron, who should go to an honest family.
Your tax dollars at work.
This will ruin your day. [Bold in original]
Step one: Trump decides to run, and obliterates the primary field .
While many Republicans are considering a presidential bid, some of whom are savvy operators, there isn’t one who looks remotely like they could defeat Trump in a presidential primary.
“If Donald Trump decides to run in 2024 again, he’s going to be the Republican nominee,” said one of those potential candidates, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.
…Step two: Republican voter suppression measures have an impact .
… It’s entirely possible that we’ll see power struggles in state after state where local officials trying to administer fair and free elections are usurped by legislatures loyal to Trump who manage to to put a thumb — or a whole hand — on the scale in his favor.
…Step three: GOP state legislatures step in .
There could be a number of states where the Democratic candidate (Joe Biden, if he seeks reelection, or someone else) wins the majority of the vote, and the Republicans who find that outcome unacceptable simply refuse to approve it.
…Step four: Republicans in the House of Representatives take control .
If there were conflicts in Congress over which slates of electors to count, there are multiple ways you could have a major constitutional breakdown. …
Republicans control more state delegations than Democrats. And Trump would then become the 47th president of the United States.
…
This is the worst part (my bold):
But the opposite is also possible. At every stage of this scenario, it would be up to Republicans to prevent the worst from happening; Democrats couldn’t stop it, and not even the voters could, if the GOP is determined enough to steal the election for Trump. We await evidence that they wouldn’t be willing to do it.
Pretty horrible. Now we have to keep it from happening.
Liz Cheney agreed with Trump 93% of the time and has strong Conservative credentials. The fact she disagreed with Trump’s interpretation of the election, which most Republicans apparently do in private, led to her marginalization. This means the GOP had an opportunity to diminish Trump’s influence and decided it was too strong for re-election comfort. This bodes badly for reducing Trump’s future influence or control and I think he will run in 2024 if his health permits. Despite not wanting or liking the job. My guess is he will not end up with criminal charges in New York, nor Georgia.
Trump’s former SECSTATE may be eyeing the White House himself:
Meh. In a clear, non-Trump infested playing field, Pompeo would hardly register with the base. DeSantis is the one who has the advantage in that situation.
In a 2024 GOP primary playground where DJT is a candidate? Pompeo would be squashed like a bug.
IOW, no way Pompeo has a remote chance of getting the GOP nomination.
But he can rake in several wheelbarrows full of money by pretending he’s going to run for President. It’s all about the grift.
Oh Lord…these are dangerous words…
