Would human have to be well done?

Sunday morning random thought…

For future reference, should I ever be in a plane crash and forced to eat my fellow passengers, as you do, would I need to make sure I cooked them through properly, or could I have them rare?

It’s a red meat. I don’t see why you’d have to cook it overly well.

If any of them have parasites or diseases, they would be highly communicable.

Well-done is indicated.

Stewed for 3 hours or so would be better.

But remember–water boils at altitude at a lower temperature than at sea level.

Do a thorough search of the wreckage first. If you can score a bottle of red wine from the flight attendant’s cart, you could do a lovely jambe de l’homme avec le vin rouge.

If they’ve been dead for some time, I guess it would be prudent to cook thoroughly first. Can’t hurt, anyway, and there’s plenty of jet fuel lying around. Heck, some of them might already have been flambed already, just leave them in there a bit longer.

Make sure you don’t kill anyone, though. You’d still get charged with murder.

Would you actually have the means to make a fire upon you? It seems to me, that, although I, for isntance, am a user of the evil nicotine and therefore usually woudl have a lighter with me, the general…um…“excitement” of getting the heck out of crashed plane FAST might mean that I don’t stop to grab my handbag (OK, “purse” if you really must:) )

I mean it would not be exactly the same as being able to stop before popping out to local shops - with time to check I had mobile phone, and smokes, and bank card etc

It depends on the type of person you are eating. I would make sure to thoughly cook a Mexican, otherwise you would get the runs. A chinese person would be fine to eat rare, but you would be hungry again in an hour, so it might not be worth it. And be careful is you decide to roast a Russian, you don’t want an alcohol explosion.

No source, other than crazy alternative health flyers I get, but I’ve heard the human body is so damn toxic that one shouldn’t eat it at all (IR that they also said not to use it for fertilizer either for the same reason).

Of course, if you got no choice…

Got a recipe?

um, not that I’m planning anything, but this survival stuff is good to know.

Ah but, if I was to make a big mess of hacking up the bodies - had to do it with my eyes closed as I couldn’t bare to look - and eat the evidence, how would they know I’d murdered 'em?

Oh, I can always make FIRE!!!

You get leaflets that tell you not to eat people? Can I join your club?

So why can you get away with not cooking red meat properly?

Human meat has been referred to as “long pork”, which indicates medium well. And white wine, if you don’t mind, Why A Duck!

You’ll want to have the liver sauteed with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

oh, I dunno, I frequently eat pork raw…

mmmm, long pigs.

Marinated Leg of Person with fascinating details about famous people who have eaten human flesh.

I dunno about that. The roses in my back yard are looking better than ever.

The Marco Polo reference looks very suspicious. He mentions cannibalism in several parts of Il Milione, but always in the context of reporting the behaviour of tribes he’s heard about rather than visited. Some of these references are distinctly condemnatory and none discuss what human flesh tastes like, never mind describe his firsthand experience of it.
The Maupassant story also sets off my alarm bells.

However, I’ve no opinions either way about that site’s recipes.

“The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover” - excellent film!

Just don’t eat the brains. Wouldn’t want “mad human” disease.

That sounds impossible. Whatever toxicity might exist in our living tissues, we ourselves must be immune to or else our bodies would be poisoning themselves.

Ah, okay. So would these “toxins” by any chance include caffeine and refined sugar?

Ever aware of it’s natural preditors, the other people in the plane, the sly human prefers to injest food rich in glucose and caffeine. Preditors are instinctvly driven to find other food sources as they know from health magazines found in their native habitate that the toxic substances injested by the humans will give them insomnia and a fat butt.

I would recommend that before you get on a plane you invest in one of those little gizmos you see advertised on late-night TV (generally marketed toward hard-of-hearing elderly folks) that picks up and amplifies sounds into a little set of ear buds. Then you can eavesdrop on the conversations of your fellow travellers and make note of which ones are into eating only organically grown vegetables, and, (if they’re not a vegetarian/vegan, ) organic hormone-free dairy products, meat from free-range animals, etc.

Then, if circumstances forced you to eat long pig, you would know which of your late fellow passengers’ systems would not be loaded with toxins.

Barring one of these types being on board, I would go for a person who sucked on a bottled water continuously throughout the flight, as drinking lots of clean water can flush a good deal of toxins from the system. Bonus points if they drank enough water to send them to the bathroom every half-hour or so. I would still avoid the liver and kidneys from one of these types, since those are the major toxin-filtering/processing organs and would have higher concentrations than the rest of the body’s tissue.

Anyhoo, the heirarchy of which corpses to eat would be

  1. Vegans who eat only organically grown non-gmo fruits, veggies and soy products

  2. Vegetarians who eat only the above, plus hormone-free dairy products and eggs from free-range chickens

  3. Health-conscious types who eat only the above, plus organically raised free range meats

  4. Vegetarians who eat supermarket fruits, veggies, dairy products

  5. People with heavy-duty bottled water habits (who will often fall into one of the above categories, but even if they live on fast food and drink bottled water instead of soda, you’re still better off than eating someone who had a bad diet and a heavy soda habit.)
