Would someone please relate to me the legend of WallyM7??

Clearly she had a great effect on those who she posted with, and was renowned for her wit, but I have seen no examples of this. I have seen sigs stating “Miss you, Wally”, did she just stop posting or did she retire in some way.

We must pass on the legends of the boards to the newbies, so that they might pass it on to the next newbies.

Thanks to those who would tell thee tale.

I wasn’t around in Wally’s time, but you can learn about him here:

He seemed like a really great guy.

Wally was before my time on this board as well. He was a poster with incredible wit and intelligence who died following an accident last June or July.

I started a very similar thread a couple of months ago. You could follow some of the links there.

Wally wasn’t (isn’t) a legend.
He was a real life flesh and blood Canadian putz.
We loved him.
He died tragically in a fall at work.

Intone with as much dignity as you can muster, preferably in a Gregorian chant…

“Oh Wally, Cecil is the Grand Poobah, and you were his incarnation on earth”

If done properly, you will hear, in deep vibrant tones from on high:
“You insufferable Putz! If you infer I’m a woman once more, I will regale you with tales of exploding BBQ grills until you weep!”

Although some achieve it better than others, we all strive for Wally-tude.

In all seriousness, Wallys’ mix of intelligence, wit and humour can never be replaced, and he is sorely missed.

If you guys want to understand why we all loved Wally do a search with his user name. He was pretty prolific with the added bonus of being both intelligent and funny. The one I remember most vividly is probably:

He was also the patron saint of putzes.

Would someone please relate to MarxBoy the legend of the search engine?

Didn’t you learn anything in your “Opal” thread?

What?

I never had an Opal thread!
How dare you sully my good name!

I realize I could have tried to find a bunch of posts by Wally, but I assumed that, as revered as he is there would be a large group ready to tell their favorite Wally story. I wanted to know, and I thought it would be a good thread. Yeesh.

No worries, MarxBoy. There was absolutely nothing wrong with you asking some more information about WallyM7. He was a valued member of our little community, and in a way, he still is.

voguevixen, a little tact never hurt anyone, last time I checked.

I guess, in a way, he DID retire… :frowning:
Miss ya, Wally.

so, anyone done anything Wally-esque lately?

I, after running for a hr last week, went into the locker room, changed shirts, and just as I was getting my pants on I fell over (my knees gave out). so my pants are around my thighs, and I’m laying there half moaning and half laughing.

Well I didn’t have a personal relationship with Wally like many people , but out of all of the posters on all of the message boards I have been on, Wally was the only poster whose new posts I checked on even before checking the responses to my own posts when logging onto the board. For someone as self-centered as me thats about as much respect as is possible.

I haven’t done anything lately, but my sister and brother in law are moving into my parent’s house for the summer (until construction on their new house is completed) and I’ll be taking in her two cats.

Maybe the cats’ arrival will bring something I can share: stupid litterbox mistakes, the misplaced pet or two, trying to catch the cat (Moe) who likes to make a mad dash for freedom whenever the front door is open, etc.

Wally… He made us laugh and cry…
Wally… Was everyone’s friend…
Wally… Will never be forgotten by many of us…
Wally… The night he died, we became a family, pulled together and cried many tears…

we can only hope, Crunchy Frog, we can only hope LOL

That was tactful. I was going to say: “He’s dead. Shut up and go away,” but I figured I’d save that for handy.

My apologies, MarxBoy…I was getting you confused with the other non-searchers, Ross and SNenc.

Yep; that’s what did it for me.

Don’t sweat it, MarxBoy. Wally was a vital part of this community and we didn’t really realize HOW vital until we lost him. The tributes to his memory at 3F will give you an idea of how highly he was regarded. (Ignore the most recent “tribute”, though; it’s atypically cynical and self-serving, someone who was banned using Wally’s death to slam the Dope. ::grimaces:: It certainly doesn’t reflect on Wally or how sincerely he was loved.)

For the rawest, best reflection, check out the thread in the archives when his daughter announced his death. I still can’t bear to read it but it best conveys the gaping hole Wally’s death left here. He was one of those “gotta read first” posters whose unexpected silence was eerie at first–and then heartbreaking. “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”–including dear, familiar voices chiming in about things large and small.

First and foremost he was a gloriously human, funny, fallible man whose pure enjoyment of this place was contaigous. He had a total blast with the folks here and his zest was irresistable. He never denied his mistakes; hell, he shared them, laughing hardest at himself and inviting others to laugh right along.

He was simply a fine, generous man and a fine, fine friend. He’s irreplaceable but he sure left a legacy in how to wring the most out of life and friendship.
