Would temporarily keeping ALL the political threads in one forum be reasonable?

A few hours ago I decided to mute P&E. Likely not for more than a few days but I’d still like to give myself a break.
However, as I write this, here’s all the election/trump threads I see near the top of my New Posts page.

I don’t know what I’m going to do

How can I stay safe as a nonbinary person, now that Trump has won(?)?

Should Jack Smith, Judge Merchan, etc flee to a foreign country?

Is my life worth anything anymore? (Venting of emotions from Election Day)

I pit America

Fuck Trump and his followers

I’m done with the agita

My proposal is that for the next week or two or maybe until the end of the month, ALL political threads go in P&E. I can’t be the only person who doesn’t want to look at it for a while and playing whack-a-thread as they pop up very quickly became a PITA. I’d also rather not mute each thread so that when I’m ready, I just need to unmute a single forum instead umpteen threads.

I know, tags, but I’d rather leave that out of this discussion.

PS, is there any way to copy the text of a thread title without it being the actual link?

I’ve seen that tried elsewhere and it simply doesn’t work well. “Politics” is too broad a subject, it becomes very hard to talk about anything but the trivial. And the end result is generally whoever is doing the deciding defining “politics” as “opinions that disagree with them”.

Why do you want to leave that out of the discussion? It seems like muting the “Trump” tag would be the best solution for you. You might end up with a few stray threads that you can mute individually, but otherwise it will hide the things you don’t want to see.

Remind me again how you mute in general, whether a thread or entire forums? I searched my settings recently and couldn’t find anything.

Muting a tag or forum is under your profile, Preferences | Tracking.

Muting an individual thread is at the bottom of the thread, where the drop-down shows Watching, Tracking, Normal, and Muted.

As I discovered a few days ago (with the same motivation), muting a topic doesn’t prevent you from seeing it in many places. This seems it be a bug, and has been reported.

That makes sense and I’m sure it would cause a handful of arguments about what should and shouldn’t be considered ‘politics’. I haven’t given it all that much thought, but maybe the scope could be narrowed to threads about the 2024 election and it’s fallout.

Honestly, because I’m not a big tag user. Not just here but in general. Besides, not every thread is tagged or tagged ‘correctly’. Even the threads I mentioned in the OP aren’t all tagged with trump. And, with that, I’m not asking What Exit to spend even more time dealing with tags.

I think part of my reasoning behind this thread was that when I muted P&E, I was surprised that close to half of the threads on my New Posts page were still about the election.

I think, at this point, it probably doesn’t matter since a lot of it will die down on it’s own soon enough, hopefully. Maybe it’s something to be reconsidered in 2028 and implemented for the few weeks before and after the election (assuming there is one, I know).

Yeah, muting the tag won’t solve everything. But I think moving all those threads to one category is a nonstarter, so muting “Trump” is better than nothing.

I have a silly assed paranoid idea- that the worst threads on you-know-who be cornfielded before he takes office.

Update on this post. It seems that muting works as expected now. I haven’t had confirmation that the bug as been fixed, so it may have been a glitch on my side (although others agreed it happened for them, too).

Some threads that touch on politics are fine in other forums. Some should probably be moved. If you feel a thread fits better in P&E there is a good chance you could be right. Flag it so all the mods can see the issue.

Yeah, kinda paranoid.

Do you not think there are investigators(federal) that have alternate ways to determine this board has 2000 you-know-who threads and 2 gazillion posts? (And how to find out who posted what)

The genie is out of the bottle.
When we chose to post online on a public message board, we did it to ourselves.

Yeah, I have about 20 years of posts here and elsewhere making my political positions known. If they go hunting political dissidents to that degree there’s no way I can hide my opinion at this point.

I consider politics as discussions about candidates or specific political issues.

Expressing an opinion or disappointment about an election or Court decision better fits IMHO or Mundane.

Do we honestly have to clutter up Politics with I hate Trump threads and I hate this new Trump policy threads? That’s not a serious topic for a reasoned discussion.

For the foreseeable future that’s going to be what American politics are all about, and this is a board full of Americans.

Yes i don’t think it’s practical or appropriate to ensure that all political threads go in p&e, but I’m certain that most “i hate this Trump policy” threads will belong in p&e.
