I was born in London, I think the hospital no longer exists and left there when I was a young child. My home is now San Diego.
It’s not that exciting I’m afraid. He’d been at the pub alone, I think, and had started chatting with a couple of friends of mine, who I joined later. The topic of conversation got on to the internet in general and Staggerlee mentioned the SDMB. I said that I knew it and he told me his name here. I know this is just me but I found it quite an odd feeling, having the internet intrude into real life like that. Especially since my friends didn’t have a clue what the two of us were talking about. ![]()
English, born smoggie, kiwi citizenship, living in Manila and working in Italy.
Another Scot here.
Anyone keeping count?
A rake of English, about 10 Scots and one Doper from Northern Ireland.
Nobody willing to admit to being Welsh then?
Not from the UK or British but because we get British TV and papers etc. over here I’m pretty much up on British national news, culture etc. and could converse about things like most informed Brit’s.
In fact I probably know more about British news/politics etc than their Irish equivalent.
If I were I’d declare it proudly.
I love Wales and I love Welsh culture, and think it’s much maligned. Sometimes slagging off the Welsh seems like the last “acceptable” racism* in England. (I used to do it myself, before I lived there and saw the error of my ways.)
*For a specific definition of racism. ETA: except Swansea. In that case, go for it!
They have the internet in Wales now?
Just to prove jjimm’s point.
They’re responding by letter.
Just to be clear, I was joking!
The nation that produced Manic Street Preachers gets the thumbs up from me. We Highlanders also empathise with the Welsh on account of them being overrun with sheep; we were burned out of our crofts to make room for those woolly bastards.
