Would you give Mike Pence a chance?

Because none of what you said actually tells me how he’d handle the Presidency.

And because it would put to a lie my point about how Trump is different. Trump is definitely Evil. Pence is conservative, and has some ideas I think are evil, but I don’t know he’s evil himself.

I mean, I know quite a lot of people like Pence–a huge portion of the people I went to church with. Many are not evil, just misguided.

No. He’s a far right scumball; he’d be a disaster whether he screws up or if he succeeds, so there’s nothing to give him a “chance” over in the first place. He’d be a disaster; the only question is what* precise* variety of disaster he would be.

I don’t recalll Indiana distinguishing itself for its misgovernment during his term of office. A few state governors deserve special attention for their abuse of power, like New Jersey and Wisconsin, but if Indiana was one of them, it flew under the radar.

My digestion is occasionally impeded by the thought that I might one day look back with greater appreciation on Trump and Pence.

If Pence is about equivalent to Reagan or either of the Bushes, sure, some leeway is due. If however he tries to install an obviously self-destructing joke of a kleptocracy like Trump… no quarter should be given, and Republicans better know that nobody will shy away from back-to-back impeachments.

Not to worry! In such a scenario you would be far too concerned with meeting your vat-meat quota, lest you get ritually fed to the Great Maw, to look wistfully back upon simpler times.

He already had his chance with me as governor of my state and he about ruined us. Nope.

If Pence had any integrity he would quite the Trump Administration in protest over being lied to by Trump and Flynn. But he’s too close to taking over to see straight.

If all politicians quit because they were lied to, there would be no more politicians.

Lied to by the President and the National Security Advisor? I’d quit in a second.

Interesting poll but a chance for what, specifically. To act as President? To finish a term as President? I doubt that many a member in good standing of the Democrat collective would give any Republican President a chance. The Democrat collective considered the 2016 general election as Hillary’s turn to be President. Any Republican candidate who beat her would receive the same treatment that Trump/Pence has received.

I don’t like the word “meme,” but I don’t know how else to explain the right’s misconception about why we are unhappy. It’s really not that Hillary was denied her rightful place as the First Female President. We get that she lost, and if she lost to O’Malley or Kasich, or even Jeb Bush, we’d shrug and realize “that’s politics.” Please try to understand the profound revulsion all rational people feel when they consider Mr. Trump occupies the Oval Office. It’s not a matter of Hillary losing, it’s who won that bothers us.

He was known for using the police to suppress votes.

Yes. It’s sad that this is the bar that’s been set, but I would be happier with someone who will at least be measured about what he does and follows some sort of procedure, including accepting advice and information.

Well, considering I really wouldn’t have a choice, I guess I would. But it’d be a pretty tiny one. I’d prefer both of them be booted out of there. (Ryan isn’t my favorite person, but I vastly prefer him to Agent Orange and Co.)

It is unfair that they won’t afford the same level of respect that the Republican tardwagon gives to Democratic presidents. The Republican tardwagon really set the bar high with their dignified opposition to Obama’s policies, based on deeply held principles, never veering into personal or spiteful attacks. We should all aspire to be more like the esteemed members of the Republican tardwagon, who are always willing to reach across the aisle.

He has the same chance everyone does: If he acts like a decent person, I’ll consider him a decent person eventually. He’s starting in the red, so he’d better get crackin’.

Sure. Why not?

Pence is well respected. A former Congressman and Governor.

He’s the best decision Trump ever made.

I don’t agree with Pence’s far right leaning politics. But he’s certainly qualified to serve as President.

Just be thankful Chris Christie isn’t VP. That guy… Bridgegate OMG let’s not go there.

Of course I wouldn’t give him that sort of chance. He’s not a blank slate, a mysterious stranger from beyond the stars who’s materialized in the White House. He has a political history, he has stated positions, he has a well-established personality and reputation. I oppose the vast majority of the changes he has stated he wants to make to the country; why would his assuming the office change either his opinions or mine?
