Would you stand for a Star Wars reboot?

Pretty much agree with that.

It doesn’t seem like the sort of series that would be enjoyable if rebooted. However crappy the prequels were, they sort of stand as a history for the Star Wars universe, may as well move onto new grounds and pick up where they left off.

Why should anyone be opposed to any kind of reboot? It it works, great. If it doesn’t, so what?

I would possibly agree if the prequels were just bad. But they were actually silly and nonsensical.

It’s like if one Law and Order spinoff was a wacky comedy with a laughtrack. Knowing that nonsense is in the same continuity hurts the overall franchise.

I think the prequels are the only ones that need redoing. In particular, I was hoping for a lot more of Darth Vader in the black suit, fighting with the red light saber, and being voiced by James Earl Jones. If episode III had done that for the whole film, or even the second half of the film, I would have forgiven Lucas for the mess he made of episodes I and II.

If you do a reboot, you should have the scripts for all nine films completely written, before you start filming any of them. Yes, I know, there will inevitably be last-minute revisions during the shoot, but you should have a clear idea of where you are going.

No. I would sit for a reboot. I would sit somewhere other than in the movie theater.

I’ve often thought that there was a great pod-racing movie trapped in Ep. 1, struggling to get out.

What’s creepy, is that we have the tech to pretty convincingly create a younger CG version of an actor’s head, and replace it in post, or via motion capture, ala Benjamin Button.

ILM and Weta Digital could probably create chapters VII, VIII, and IX with motion capture/voice work of Ford, Hamill, and Fisher (et al) to finish the saga off, keeping their ages consistent with any sequel timeline.

I’d actually love to see something like this done (while the original actors are still alive), but with talented, passionate writers and directors. Lucas can remain exec. producer, just keep him at bay with the straight-to-Happy-Meal creations.

Justin Beiber as Luke Skywalker
Kristin Stewart as Leia Organa
Shia LeBouf as Han Solo
Russell Brand as Chewbacca
Ben Stiller as Obi Wan Kenobi
Arnold Schwartzenneger as Darth Vader

Cuba Gooding Jr as Lando Calrissian
Special appearances by Johnny Depp as Boba Fett

That aughta ruin it just enough, yet sound strangely compelling to Hollywood…

Oh Christ, please, not Joss Whedon. He’s have Princess Leia doing karate bullshit and everyone speaking in ironic one liners.

Jawas were not childish, they were mysterious and cool! In fact I was looking at production photos of ANH and noticed something cool I never did before, the jawas have hairy hands and wrists!

I’ll give you the Ewoks, but in my opinion ROTJ was the start of the downfall past the opening sequence in Jabba’s palace.

I have always wondered why he invented Naboo when Padme could have been from ALDERAN! How much more would it have added to ANH if Alderan was a place we got to see and love? Wasted chance at awesome.

*We get to see Alderan in The Clone Wars show.

I know he’s past his prime, but I’d love to see Speilberg take a crack at it. Then again, maybe it’s best he just leaves that one franchise alone.

Why didn’t I choose George Lucas in the thread about going back in time to kill someone? Damn!

I’d like to reboot the Expanded Universe personally.

I enjoy the STAR WARS universe, but I think the main characters - the Skywalker-Solo tribe - have been done to death. I would therefore like to see new films with completely original characters. Preferably non-Force sensitive humans.

Something like this?

You’d probably like the EU, then. The X-Wing books, for example. (Wedge Antilles for President!)

Not entirely, but I’d definitely get rid of anything from Kevin J. Anderson, Barbara Hambly, and a lot of the Yuuzhan Vong war. I WOULD definitely keep Zahn, Stackpole and Allston.

THIS is what I’d change:

WHY was Mara Jade was killed off? That was absolutely pointless. I’d definitely have changed that. I’d have made it harder for the Vong to take over – it was a little TOO easy for them? WTF, the New Republic just falls apart in less than twenty years?
Anderson: worst author ever. The Suncrusher, Qwi Xux, Kyp? Yuck.
Hambly sucked too. I hated Callista, and I hated the idea of a Force-sensitive Hutt.

I WOULD have liked to have seen some of the cut scenes, like keeping in the part where Padme meets with the other senators, and when she visits her family. (I know it’s on the DVDs, I wanted to see it in the theater!) And I’d love it if the OT DVDs had the scene where Luke visits Anchorhead and sees Biggs before he (Biggs) leaves.

Since we’re moving on to movies we’d like to see, how about filming the Crimson Empire graphic novels? Revenge, romance, and a protagonist rather than a hero.

Little Orphan Annie is rather clueless, but even he would get suspicious if there is a Princess of a planet where his wife was a queen, who looks a lot like her and has the same name they wanted for their baby if it was a girl. And the Princess is adopted around the same time as the death of padme.

Plus that would mean that gurgans were from Alderaan. We would cheer that Alderaan got blown to bits as meant that Jar Jar was dead and wonder why wheezy did not choke Tarkin on the spot for blowing up Padme’s tomb.
