No but I’d love to see her get the nomination, that way if the Republicans win at least it could be worse,
It’s a mortal sin to vote for a Republican, and “sin” (in the sense of “actions that the Creator of the Universe has commanded us to not do”) isn’t even a real thing.
Absolutely not. She may have finally found her line in the sand, but she’s just as bad as the rest.
And she can only do that because she’s a Cheney. If she were Joe Blow from Idaho, she wouldn’t have the name to fall back on when this gets ugly.
Would you vote for Liz Cheney for President in 2024?
Who would she be running against?
Yeah. I’m a ‘no’ on this one, too.
It really is important that we recognize that her pedigree is that of Progeny of the Nefarious Appalling Conservative.
While apples – theoretically – can fall far from trees, in practice … this one hasn’t.
No, unless she was running as a Democrat and a MAGA type was running as Republican. We may have a common enemy, but she ain’t one of us.
Well said.
In the Republican primary? Yes, as she’s shown she’s marginally sane, compared to the rest of her cohort.
In the general? Not at all. She’s still responsible for Trump’s influence. Republicans have a lot to clean up in their party before I’d ever even consider voting for them again.
She is probably in the top 1% of Republican candidates which puts her in the exalted position of being worse than only 99% of Democrats. There are a few Dems that I could conceive being worse than her (Rob Blagojevich, the late Marion Barry). But in those cases I would probably go third party.
Let me throw a wrinkle into this. Suppose based on how she’s been treated by the Republican leadership she ran as an independent or third party. Would that change any of your minds?
Her voting record and to a lesser degree her Dad would still make her ineligible for me.
Every vote not for a Democrat hurts our country. Liz Cheney will still be Liz Cheney.
This question is the flip side of would you let a pedophile who has announced she was coming after all kids under the age of 5 babysit your toddlers if they were nice in other ways. Of course you wouldn’t. No circumstances could change your mind. Cheney is the equivalent of an outspoken pedophile on every issue who happens to have made one correct choice.
For a politician, not approving of an attempt to overturn a presidential election is like the Planck length, the smallest possible definable event. You want to reward her for that?
I still wouldn’t vote for her. But if she pulled a lot of Republican votes away from whatever their nominee was, I’d freaking campaign for her!
Way to go to the extreme.
Let’s say Biden has no hope of winning and the election is
Joe Biden (D)
Ted Cruz (R)
Liz Cheney (I)
Do you still vote for Biden and hope your vote helps him pull of the miracle like Trump did in 2016?
Do you vote for Cheney as part of a nationwide effort Cruz or her?
Do you vote for Cheny to split R EV votes and throw it into the House and pray to God the Dems lead in state delegations?
Even if we assumed that the “approval rating” translates directly into voting (which I’m pretty sure it doesn’t), 36% of the vote is more than enough to win a 3-way race. And with those hypothetical candidates, I could see a tight 3-way split developing.
But for this slate of candidates to show up in 2024, I’m pretty sure something quite drastic will have had to happen, which pretty much means any speculation is null and void. In a world where we have Cheney and Cruz fighting over the soul of the GOP, anything is possible.
Why would I vote for her? I doubt there is a single policy position I agree with her on.
This idea that somehow if a ‘rational’ Republican is elected to some office that it will break the grip of Trumpism is hopeful pleading of patent nonsense. Trump certainly exposed and exploited the nascent fascism that was growing within the GOP but he didn’t create it and he frankly isn’t that effective of a demagogue. Trump’s ascension is just the cumulation of a quarter-century of manipulation and propaganda led by Newt Gingrich (fronting for the Heritage Foundation) who has served as the Goebbels to the Republican party since his “Contract With America”. Liz Cheney is not some kind of radical maverick pushing back against the GOP agenda as a ‘traditional’ small government economic conservative; she’s Neoconservative in the mold of her father, and just happens to recognize that the progression into protofascism of the current Trump-worship is a deviation from those fundamental principles to seek populist support that neoconservatism has lost.
I wouldn’t vote Liz Cheney for dogcatcher.
Stranger
Liz Cheney may be better than the average Republican. But the Republicans have made that a really low bar. Even the best Republicans are willing to support all the bad Republicans who make up the majority of the party.
So I can’t imagine any reason to vote for a Republican in 2024. A typical Republican, if elected, will commit a bunch of crimes. A good Republican, assuming one can be found, nominated, and elected, may not commit any crimes personally but will make it easier for the typical Republicans to commit crimes.
I have no doubts the Democrats will produce a better candidate than the Republicans will and I have no problems voting for a Democrat.
Before I will vote for a Republican, they need to clean up their house.
Not really. She’s pretty much the definition of an Average Republican.
The average R Congressperson voted with Trump 91% of the time. Cheney voted with Trump 92% of the time.
The average R Congressperson voted with Biden 13%. Cheney voted with Biden 12% of the time.
The impeachment/January 6th committee stuff is the only thing she is opposed on.
Meaningless noise.
Of course I and anyone else with a brain votes against Liz Cheney and Ted Cruz. I voted against Nixon in 1972, even though McGovern had no chance. In what world would I have done differently?
You’re trying to make a case that the conservative side is not so extreme that it can’t be voted for and that a detectable difference in the real world after the election exists between Cheney and Cruz and anyone else who might possibly be a contender. That’s an impossible case to make.
