One thing I find quite annoying is that the thread text changed size to a much bigger font, so I had to scale down the SDMB page to be able to get it back to a reasonable size; the problem is the text on the thread list pages is the same size as before, so after zooming out now those pages show up with tiny, hard to read text (and don’t get me started on the wasted space between titles). So I would suggest to make text size constant throughout the forum because the way it is now is a PITA.
Before, where it shows which the number of pages a thread has, at the top and bottom, the page you’re on was bolded noticeably darker. Now all the numbers look the same.
For some strange reason, ever since the format change took place, I’ve had this nagging desire to read Moby Dick again. It’s crazy, and I can’t figure out why!!
Love the new ‘+1’ feature though.
+1
I don’t know what this means. Flat Slab?
I looked at it. Some are hard to tell. The green highlight is apparently part of the skin - ugh. The disappearing Post Date and Last Posted columns in the forum list pages is also a feature of this skin, which sizes what is displayed by how much visual real estate versus zoom level, it appears. This is part of the “Responsiveness”, I guess.
Also apparently the size of the thread title column versus the last post column, as well as the blank lines before and after the content of each thread entry.
The Reply button shape and font is the same (color choice different, but the shading variation the same and off color choice similar).
Also, the page number box and the indistinguishability of which page you are viewing.
The blue color of the bars between each post is apparently changeable.
The font choice on that page is much more visually distinct for bold vs normal text.
The issue with the performance of the reply box incongruence is a feature of that skin - that test site has the same issue.
The font size inconsistency between quote and regular content is not present on that test site. The forced italicization of quotes, however, is, but should be easily changeable in the CSS.
I think I discovered why the Spoiler tags don’t work - this skin does not appear to support them. I checked the BBcode list for that website and it does not have spoiler as a tag.
I was playing around with their style list for different colors, so that may look different than what Giraffe posted.
I also confirmed the code tag behavior of closing up the spaces is apparently intentional - the BBcode display example does exactly that. I posted a question there.
So, some of these issues are skin issues and some are selection issues by the installation.
I don’t believe there is an announcement post describing the changes, just half a dozen threads where posters are listing the observed changes that they dislike. And maybe like, but mostly dislike.
You can take penicillin for that.
“From Hell’s heart I stab at thee. For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.”
Are you talkin’ to a whale or the SDMB PTB?
Maybe Kirk?
I’m not seeing this – just the usual block with the first line or few of the post.
Superb. Absolutely, bloody, superb. :smack:
So, is there going to be any sort of policy decision about this? Or are we to lose basic functionality on a permanent basis in the interests of this badly thought out adventure?
Seriously, this is software engineering 101 stuff. The new skin does not meet core requirements. And it seems it may never do so. I would fail any student attempting to pass off this schmozzle as a work for grade.
At the bottom right, see where it says page X of Y? Then it shows page numbers, and at the very end is the drop-down. Click the drop-down and you get the modal Go To.
My partner is a web developer. His first response was to say, “wow, that’s bad.” His second response, upon seeing the chartreuse highlighting, was to sing, “somebody didn’t change a default!”
The dark blue bars are visually distracting and make it difficult to read threads (I like the comparison to banging a drum when people finish speaking). It looks like the early 2000s up in here. When I first loaded the page, I thought that maybe the servers were in Florida or something, and we were having connectivity issues.
There’s also way too much white space. If you value information density–and, let’s be honest; a lot of us old-timers stick around because this place is so dense–then this is much worse. Can’t say anything about the ads, since I’ve kept my charter membership up. But…wow. This is a huge step backwards.
What part of “***light ***grey” was so hard to understand? Oh, I know…
Ah – you mean I have to open the thread first. I thought you meant there was something on the forum menu page that would let me go directly from the menu to the desired page.
Can’t use it at work.
A lighter gray would be better. But either way, it’s a big improvement over the dark blue.
Actually, I didn’t mind the blue. I couldn’t see anything particularly wrong with it.
Whoa, when did the drop-downs to get you between pages within a thread show up? I don’t recall them being there when they initially did the downgrade.
To get to the previous or next page, all you used to have to do was (1) click the number for whichever page. Now you’ve got to (1) click the drop-down, (2) click on the box under “Go to page…”, (3) type in the desired page number, and (4) click on ‘Go’. Gone from 1 click, to 3 clicks with some typing interspersed. That’s gonna be majorly annoying.
