Wow, I hate this new format

Damn! If only I’d known they existed.

Uhhh … yeah. I thought that’s what it did. Oh well. Believing it existed was fun while it lasted. :: sniff::

Al posts are** Bolded**?

It must be to compensate for something about the script size and readability?

ETA : take a look at all the sizes of characters in a random screen shot. There is little stuff and big stuff. It’s out of wack, esp if you don’t rock 20/20 vision all the time.

Not like that on my end (even before I zoomed out).

They’re bold-er, which is something that comes with larger text sizes, but I saw a noticeable difference between bolded text and not.

It seems like everyone is having somewhat different experiences. On my computer, the text is the same size, so far as I can tell, as on the old site (I posted a picture somewhere of the two side by side. In case you missed it, There it is again. No bold here, and the fonts are the same size. Heck, the new one may even be ever so slightly smaller on my system.) But the other annoyances are there. And, yes, on my iPhone text is HUGE and makes it unusable. It’s not an old iPhone – it’s the SE from 2016-- but it is shaped like the older iPhones with a 4" screen. (I had the bigger iPhone 6, and switched back to the smaller SE after I accidentally completely destroyed it.)

I need to see a type a little before I decide what’s bold and what’s not.

That’s practically misquoting me just with the use of shading!

OK what is bold in post 226 and what s not?

Can someone point me to a post or thread where the exact changes to the visual environment are described?

Just add a filter, that will stop the ads. (Right-click on the offending ad, copy image address, bring the adblock dashboard up, go to My Filters, paste in the address, click Apply Changes, close dashboard, refresh the SDMB page, ads gone permanently.)

Yes. I now need to hold the phone in landscape mode because the words don’t wrap properly in portrait.

I, see, I decide, and. I really can’t tell if it’s any more difficult to discern than before or not. The “I” is a bit ambiguous, but I think it’s always been a little tricky to see the bolded “I”.

For what it’s worth, Firefox with AdBlock Plus doesn’t seem to be blocking any of the ads for me.

I don’t /hate/ it. And the only reason I haven’t paid for membership is that I lost track of how to do that. The inline adds are ugly, but not disruptive like the pop-up at the bottom (which interferes with my ability to click on the screen).

However: I don’t LIKE it. I’m seeing less content per screen, and some of the screens render badly on some of the computers I use.

The “quick reply” window is still no worse/no better (I can’t see the text properly, which causes spelling problems), but the ‘reply’ screen is putting up a smallish square window at the left of the screen - still with the only barely legible text, but now only a window on that.

It’s actually unusable on my iPhone.

I am finding that whole scroll-box-arrow-lower-right thing annoying but still not quite the level of hate. More like Ford during the lame-duck part of his presidency.

You mean the part that lasted from August 9, 1974 to January 20, 1977?

I was traveling for the past couple of days, and only accessed the forum via tapatalk… But damn, leave you guys alone for a few days, and everything goes down the crapper.

Selecting text makes it lime green? Is it supposed to do that? And I mean, I get that the aesthetic is trending towards minimalism at the moment, but the sort of text-on-blank look the front page now has seems like it’s straight from the late 90s…

(I do think the arrow in the bottom right is useful, though, if not especially pretty, or, you know, integrated with the look and feel of the page at all…)

As I said in another thread, I really don’t like the new look.

I don’t know if it’s “supposed to”, but it’s a feature on the demo site that Giraffe linked earlier:

The hover thing looks odd on a desktop computer, but looks fine on mobile. The new skin also seems to have eliminated some issues I had been having in mobile Chrome with different posts showing up with different font sizes. Some of the elements don’t quite seem to match though…as a big example, the big blue “Reply” button vs. the Webdings-style post reply buttons vs. the green “Post Quick Reply” and “Go Advanced” buttons.
