It doesn’t affect the code and spoiler box tags. They’re still messed up.
That’s not a broken button, that is a feature of how the ads load. Every time an ad loads, it creates a page in the back list. It’s annoying, but common.
Good heavens! My personal life motto is “All change is bad,” but I don’t have anywhere near the issues you people all have.
More white space means fewer threads fit on the screen means I scroll more. Oh, the humanity!

I’m seeing fewer ads — of the kind that overlay the page and I have to click to make go away — than I have in at least a year. Bravo!
There used to be one ad embedded in the thread (I don’t know what terminology to use — sorry) immediately after the first post. I always scrolled right past without even looking at it. Now there are several ads embedded in the thread, I guess, because so many people mentioned them. I didn’t notice because I scrolled right past without even looking at them.
One thing that is a problem, and several people have mentioned it, is that the page you’re on is no longer boldfaced or otherwise delineated. I could live with that if I had to, annoying as it is, but I’m guessing it’s a bug and will be fixed.
Plus, I absolutely love the idea of “go to first new post” and “put multiple quotes in your reply.” I’m going to use that first one almost constantly. (Someone said we had multi quotes in the earlier version, but I never knew that; I’d just copy and paste.)
Broken spoiler boxes, bad. And people were asking for a spoiler button in the formatting row.

PLEASE, at least allow for desktop view. This new format is virtually unusable on my old iPhone.

It does today (not sure if it did yesterday or not). But the multi-quote function works today, whether I click the words or the icon, so it looks like someone did some tweaking. Works on both safari & chrome.
They have the same purpose they had last month, and for however many years before that. I do agree about their garishness.
I’ve been using both of those features for years.
Now if “Go to first unread post” really would go to the first unread post, instead of to the first one posted after I last closed my browser…
Reading this new format is like trying to read an essay printed on an old-fashioned sailor uniform. The dark bars and extra white space make scanning a page frustrating and hard on the eyes. This “upgrade” does not seem to add any benefits and in fact greatly reduces readability. (Tech note: Viewing in Chrome on a wide-screen monitor.)
Also, the opt-out signature checkbox is going to lead to many more signatures being displayed. Is that really what we want?

Well, I’ve been using the new format for two days now. Trying to read SDMB as normal… still not getting used to it. It’s giving me eye strain. Please, can’t we go back to the old format?
(I also checked it on my iphone in Safari. The font is large enough to read there, but everything else I hate.)
