Wow, I hate this new format

I agree with this. I no longer have to continuously mess around with the display in order to comfortably read and post on my iPhone.

I think one of the problems may be that the theme they chose is ultimately intended for the latest version of vBulletin, and not so much for one that is 12 years out of date.

I am not finding anything to hate but the overall look strikes me as a little busy. I’ll have to think as I cruise through the various aspects/pages I usually use.

That isn’t the case. The theme (see quote below) was designed for vBulletin 3.x

Most of these problems are just from lack of testing and tweaking the code to make it look right. Out of the box solutions like this often require almost as much work and testing as just doing it from scratch.

Instead of beating TPTB over the head about every single little oddity in this theme, my vote is to coax (goad?) them into making the “SDMB Classic” theme available to those who would prefer to use it. That requires very little coding or testing.

One of my main issues with the change.

Well that’s tragic, then. It looks a lot better on its demo page than here. I would’ve been quite happy with keeping it at the theme’s default and just changing some colours, but this looks cluttered and messy.

If you guys are still testing, the dark grey bar where it says view first unread is really ugly.

It’s harder to tell now if you’re on the last page of a thread, or if it goes on to another page (or pages). It used to be that the page number you were on was bolded, and the others half-toned (before and after). Now it’s all the same shade. The “next page” > indicator also appears whether or not it’s the last page. Annoying.

One thing that has (I think) been added is the ability to specify which page in a long thread you want to go to. That or I just never noticed the drop-down after the final page number that gives you a Go to Page modal. If that’s new, I’m pleased. If it’s not, I’m oblivious but happier.

May the designer of this new look live in interesting times.

On my iPhone the new design looks even worse than on my PC.

That’s about the only way to sum it up.

If you hate the new look, try BigT’s userscript. It’s site specific and makes the SDMB look not fucked up.

I will get used to the new look, but the fucking multi quote function does not work on chrome or safari on my mac. I’m not understanding what this ‘upgrade’ was designed to improve. Are there any new FEATURES i can use?

The appearance for users on phones/tablets.

Rather than set it so that those users get directed to a mobile optimized site, they decided it’d just be easier to send us all there.

Ah thank you. Apparently I missed the memo & only read the SDMB on my laptop.

Is there a way to get the multiquoting to work? Other than by copying quotes and pasting them all into a reply box?

I can’t figure out a way besides copy/paste. But I am guessing they will fix this glitch, since it clearly ought to work.

Click the multi-quote icon, instead of just the words.

Doesn’t work on Chrome or Safari using Mac OS 10.3.1
