Wow, I hate this new format

To me, the text in your post looks the same size as all other posts. Anyone see it different?

Also, to me the text looks like it always did. It’s not noticeably bigger on my browser.

Yeah, it sucks. Because it’s different, I’m not used to it, and the universe should conform to my wants.

Another attempt by the Chicago Reader to appeal to the Millennials and other Youngs, who spend money on things.

I’ve been looking for years to find a Stylish or GreaseMonkey script to convert all fugly Flat Style websites to how websites were before Flat Slab.

Apart from that, I think both of those two endeavours are dying — just as all the little browsers are dying, leaving it to the corporate big boys.

NoSquint on Firefox can enlarge text to any size as well as shrink it, or enlarge or shrink the whole site.
There are two, but I didn’t get on with NoShrink Plus for some forgotten reason. And I don’t know if it works on the latest Firefoxes ( However no bullying makes me use the latest browser if it is poorly designed — The Browser was made for Man, not Man for the Browser ).

It appears to be an upgrade that made some small changes in font, etc., but most important (to the SDMB), it appears to prevent AdBlocker from doing its thing.

Who’s everybody? I was perfectly happy with the old version. This? Is like someone jamming a stick in my eye, then hitting me over the head with it every five posts. It’s nigh-unreadable.

Is there at least a way to toggle it between versions?

I will not bitch about the new look. I will not bitch about the new look. . .

HOWEVER. I do notice that the poster information (Join Date/Location/Posts) columns on the right hand side don’t line up with each other. For example, on my monitor, the columns are 3.75", 4", 4.5", 5", 5.75", etc. from the right edge of the Big Blue Bars.

And I have real problems with the lime green highlighting, but perhaps that’s just me or my monitor.

My highlighting is a moderate blue.

I no longer remember what the old look was like.

The excessive white space is bothersome to my eyes. It makes it hard to track down the page.

Make the thread subscription icon darker. I often search for threads I’ve commented on by looking for that icon, and can now barely see it.

Font size isn’t a problem; that’s what CTRL -/+ is for.

I can get used to the rest of it.

Assimilation complete.

People keep mentioning the poster info not lining up. They do for me. What’s up? Also my highlighting is not lime green. However, the “submit reply” and "preview post"buttons are. Ick. (Maybe that’s more of a puke green.) Oh well. Change is good. Change is good. Change is good.

My first thought when I got here was “Did I leave it zoomed in to 125% for some reason?”

My second thought, after verifying that I was viewing this at the proper 100%, was “Huh… Maybe the server glitched and sent me to the mobile site by mistake.”

The second one was apparently somewhat accurate, since the entire site is now a mobile site. Unfortunately, the accuracy stopped at the glitch part, as it’s apparently by design.

Using Chrome and zooming out to 80% makes things look more normal. And some ad blockers (but not all) will block the recurring ads on every page after you manually block them all once. Other blockers only seem to apply the block to the specific page that you’re on, even if the element is repeated.

I’ll join the grumpy old chorus of they changed it, so now it sucks, particularly the highlight color and the right-justification fails.

I managed to get working again in less than fifteen seconds with a right click, so if that was the goal, it’s not exactly a raging success.

To be honest, if I couldn’t get ad-block working again I would stop participating here. I’ve gotten malware from an ads here before, and I am not going through cleaning that up again.

This new format is absolutely horrible. It makes me not want to visit here any more except when I have to, for work.

I’ve identified the new theme: it’s the vB3 Responsiveness theme from Sultantheme.com. They have a demo site to showcase it. It might be useful for people seeing weird behavior with certain browsers to also check if they see the same thing on that site, so the admins here can see whether a given issue is inherent in the theme or related to any customizations they may have done.

That’s never been true. Posters bold, underline, and italicize quotes all the time (usually with the caveat “emphasis mine” or something).

I tot I taw what you did there!

On Android? Yes. Most of them, including Chrome, which is default. You can’t just tap the status bar like in iOS. You can install a bookmarklet that will scroll you back to the top.

The arrow is also a blockable element, like an ad. I got rid of it in my browser.
