So my tailor is not happy with the flying carpet. Sure, it’s green, and it flies, and it’s got those little dangly lanterns at the corners, but it’s got a couple things going wrong with it, on account of it’s a vehicle, not a mount:
No auto-dismount on cast (I’m a mage).
No instant dismount (there’s a pause, leap, land animation).
c. The dismount button isn’t auto-hotkeyed, so far as I can tell, like attack buttons are (for vehicles with attacks).
IV. If you turn while mounting, when you finish mounting you turn back to where you were facing rather than remaining facing where you turned. I’m used to being able to hit my mount key, turn until I’m headed in the right direction, then hit the auto run key and away I go. Pesky loss of a couple seconds on this one, but it’s annoying.
What I’m looking for here, I didn’t find on wowhead: Does anybody know the slash command to exit a vehicle/dismount from a flying carpet? I may be missing something dumb, but if it’s available, I’ll probably end up macroing it into all my combat starter spells (frost nova, ice barrier, ice block, polymorph, etc.). As it is, the way it’s working it’s kind of a pain to grind using it, rather than my griffon.
With some searching, “/dismount [mounted]” seems to be what you’re looking for. Let me know if this works, because my tailoring warlock is in the same boat.
Hey, I thought so too! Then I looked while flying through Icecrown, where it’s kind of dark, and went “whoa, they’re running lights!” If you look at the materials, it uses 4 Sun Crystals, so that makes sense in retrospect.
And I just tried what I suggested, and it didn’t work. Sorry, at least this bumps it again!
My 70 hunter is my engineer, but if my now-80 warlock doesn’t get epic flying, the hunter sure doesn’t either! She’s got the lower-end flying machine, though.
Edit: WoWInsider says that Blizzard will be changing vehicles to work more like mounts, which should allow /dismount macro’ing or even auto-dismount via clicking/casting.
Yeah, word has it that carpets and choppers and whatnot will be normal mounts next patch. It’s a good idea, but I’ll miss having the ability to mount up just outside the Dalaran bank (I don’t know why, but I can with my carpet).
Apparently there is grumbling and harrumphing about this change already, because there’s a bossfight in one of the instances/raids in which Malygos turns everybody into a dragon and you have to do a vehicle fight, and they’re concerned that if you accidentally hit a spell or ability which would dismount you, you’ll get de-dragonified, which means nearly instant death.
