Wow, that's a great cover of that song

Sorry, forgot to link this one too, now I can’t find it. I’ll keep looking.

Stumbled over this while searching though…

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (in Jerusalem)

It’s all about the drummer. Jump in around 3:45 if you don’t have time to watch it all. And he was in high school. Wow!

Yaknow, I would not have predicted, nor even imagined, this pairing. But it doesn’t sound out of Thompson’s wheelhouse by any stretch.

This is an excellent version of Toto’s Africa. I thought I commented on it before, but I couldn’t find it in the thread

Just had to put this here, you’ll like it, I promise

Couldn’t stomach the whole thing, sorry. I prefer the Bangles version.

The Temptations’ version is actually the cover (and I still prefer it), but I just discovered this pretty good -and the first - recording of “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” by The Undisputed Truth: Papa Was A Rollin' Stone (original) - The Undisputed Truth 1972.wmv - YouTube

I love the Cranberries cover of Fleetwood Mac’s You Can Go Your Own Way

the sound quality of this clip is less than ideal, sorry, but Dolores O’Riordan’s voice is just perfect for this song.

You can go yerrrr own wayyyyy…

There’s a 15-year-old Indonesian guitarist who does some excellent covers of heavy metal songs. Her name is Meliani Siti Sumartini. She lives in Bandung, West Java and goes by the handle MelSickScreamoAnnie.

Here she is playing a Metallica cover:

Here are her videos:

Rick Astley covering Foo Fighters - Everlong

Trees of Mystery covering Mack the Knife

Ive always loved George Bensons cover of The Beatles I Want You

More Milk 'n Blues

Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers did the original)

Cover of "Then Came The Last Days Of May "by BOC.

A couple months back I decided to check out covers of “And Your Bird Can Sing”, and watched about a dozen. Most were competent instrumental versions, or were similar (but slightly inferior) to the original.

My favorite was from the animated Beat Bugs show, and features Regina Spektor on vocals. It deletes the song’s sarcastic edge, and adds a bunch of visual sugar. So, it’s different, but still fun.

Runners up: A little handmade Etsy version performed with muted trumpet and f-hole guitar.
And a street concert version by I Fight Dragons that mixes up the arrangement just enough.

Excellent choice, Johanna! Love that song. The musicianship of (all the) Yes band members is second to none in the arena of progressive rock. For me, a top notch cover takes a good song with a pleasing melody and molds it into an equally, or superior sound, unique to the covering band’s talents. Virtuosity adds extra points. Yes delivers on all 8 cylinders in this (America) and their other covers. (ELP and Pink Floyd always delivered on all cylinders, too).

In the same vein, though different genre, if you consider a concert pianist playing a classical/romantic era piece “covering” a song, then I submit Vladimir Horowitz’s 1953 performance of Hungarian Rhapsody #2 (Liszt). It’s a “cover” masterpiece: sublime interpretation; mesmerizing cadenza.
