I love that instrument! Thanks, now I know what it’s called.
It’s also used in that Cake song, Short Skirt/Long Jacket
Another one by CC & the Quarantine Kids, and then I’ll stop because there are many.

I may have oversold it. I just know that the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I heard it. Maybe it was the glass armonica.
OK boomer.
Not quite, Gen-Xer. But Neil Young was of course our generation’s godfather.
That might be the best OK, Boomer I’ve heard… because “Dude, I want to listen to a song with weed in it…” is extremely Boomer.
…
Regards,
A boomer who back in the 60s thought slipping high or Mary Jane or joint into a song was really “stickin’ it to the man, man…”
(Damn kids these days, with their Medical Chronic Cards, they’ll never understand…)
Ya know… this was… not as good as I would have expected given the people involved.
Well, you shouldn’t expect too much, they were just three friends who liked to sing together. Here’s an earlier song that shows what they could do, just sitting around, covering an old favorite…
And for those who don’t like the boomer take, here is a more modern version along the same lines (as Johanna says at the start, "our favorite version is the one done by Trio…).
since its Xmas id thought id drop this in as some of the best Christmas covers … but I have no clue if there’s actual videos as all I’ve seen is songs playing to the album cover on yt
Pages for logged out editors learn more Christmas Songs is the third EP album by California punk rock band Bad Religion, released October 29, 2013 on Epitaph Records. It is their first full-length Christmas album, featuring eight covers of seasonal songs and an "Andy Wallace mix" version of "American Jesus". This is also the first Bad Religion album not to feature Greg Hetson on guitar since 1983's Into the Unknown, although he appears on "American Jesus", and the first time they record...
I love this, guiro and all.
mmm
Well, you shouldn’t expect too much,
Ah, but you see, that’s the problem. When you have Fabulous to the Third Power, you tend to have pretty high expectations. That song was just ‘Great’, not ‘Knock you down a flight of Stairs’.
The 2001 version of “Halleluja” in Shrek is a well known cover:
Shrek: Hallelujah (2001) (VHS Capture) - Bing video
But perhaps even better known is the cover of that released on the album, featuring a similar arrangement but a different voice. I think this is it:
Shrek Hallelujah Lyrics - YouTube.
And both are way better than the … Elvis Presley version. No wonder I never heard of it before Shrek.
ELVIS PRESLEY HALELUJA - YouTube
And — there’s a lot of versions out there now, including that by the author, which, in comparison, serve to illustrate how closely the Shrek versions stuck to the Elvis Presley instrumentation.
And both are way better than the … Elvis Presley version.
Elvis died in 1977, and Hallelujah was written circa 1984. I have no idea who’s actually performing that, but it ain’t Elvis.

Well that certainly explains why I’d never heard of the Elvis version before ![]()
I’m on vacation, staying up 'til all hours, drinking…so here’s Morgan James covering Black Hole Sun.
I know nothing about her career or life but I every time I hear her sing I am amazed at why she never had great success. Beautiful and an outstanding voice is usually a winning combo.
I’ll offer up her singing with Postmodern Jukebox (which are fabulous):
Another favorite Postmodern Jukebox song featuring Allison Young covering “Mr. Blue Sky” by ELO (strongly recommend this one too):
Prelude cover “After the Gold Rush” by Neil Young from 1974. This recording 1983.
My favourite cover: guess it’s my age!
