There’s probably somewhere else to see this trailer but I’m not savy enough to look so go towards the middle of this page and you can watch the 2 min or so trailer.
Sounds like a really good show. I really like Jason Issacs alot. The premise is that this guy got in a car wreck with his wife and son and he essentially lives two realities, one where she lived and one where he lived. It seems very original and the tone of trailer is very somber.
It almost seems like this would have been a great movie, not sure how a TV series could last really long but if they are smart and only go a couple of seasons it could be a smash.
That’s a neat link.
Grimm looks interesting. Up All Night, while a stupid cliched premise is worth checking out just to see if Will Arnett can pull off a character who isn’t a self involved ass.
Awake looks terrific. It’s a mind stretching idea that could go interesting places. I will watch it when it comes on. But, I am pretty sure that it won’t survive. It just seems like the sort of show that takes some time and dedication to build up an audience. It won’t draw people in right away, but it will bring people in by strong word of mouth. And, if it starts as a midseason replacement it’s not going to be given a chance to slowly build up an audience. I hope it will because I am looking forward to seeing it.
ps:
Didn’t recognize Jason Issacs’ name, and didn’t recognize him in the clip then looked up that he played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies. Wow! Didn’t connect the dots there.
The premise of Awake definitely makes it worth watching. I bet it got past the pilot based on the success of Inception. The music, cop show premise and general atmosphere remind me of Life, which I loved. Jason Isaacs is an excellent actor. I guess the multiple realities thing is also a bit Life on Mars.
Grimm looks good: cast-wise, I recognised the small-time arms dealer who wanted to be best mates with Michael from Burn Notice, and the Asian corporate bad guy from Angel and No Ordinary Family, and it reminds me of a serious telling of Jasper Fforde’s take on fairy tales. So it basically ticks all my boxes.
Why, yes, I do usually consider potential TV shows by comparing them to other media that I’ve liked, why do you ask?
I have the feeling, out of all the “high-concept” dramas that have crumbled over the last few years, this might stand the test of time, if it’s anywhere near close to what the trailer represents.
Jason Isaacs and B.D. Wong from SVU and Steve Harris from the Practice? Sign me the fuck up. I typically HATE non-comedies that aren’t on the pay channels like Showtime and HBO but this looks incredible. Really.
I dunno. The trailer was interesting, but its one of those things where I felt like having seen the trailer, I’ve seen the whole show. I guess maybe they’ll go somewhere unexpected with it though.
I agree with Simplicio. I feel like I’ve already seen the first few episodes.
It does look somewhat compelling, but I’m skeptical that the premise will work for more than a season, maybe two at best. Given that it’s on a network, it will probably become Yet Another Cop Show with a sprinkling of Gimick. It would probably have been great as a miniseries.
With Journeyman it was atleast easy to see how the concept could get turned into something episodic, so it could be broken up into a series. Not so easy to see the same thing with Awake,
But we’ll see, maybe there’s an angle we haven’t seen yet.
Is there any way to find out when it’s going to start? I don’t watch a lot of tv and I don’t check the listings, so if I can’t write myself a note I’ll probably miss it.
Looks absolutely fantastic, and looks like the kind of show that will not get a second season. Lets hope it’s not scheduled against something like Idol. As for keeping it episodic, he’s a cop, so they can still base each episode around individual cases. I like that it seems to be starting a while after the accident. I think you can get a bigger audience that way than starting with several episodes of “what the hell is going on?” Also, when I first read the description, I thought it was one universe where they both lived, and one where they both died. Having one alive in each side is much much better.
That wouldn’t have worked because he probably would have shot himself in the “both dead” universe in hopes to wake up and stay in the “both alive” universe. You need to have one in each so he’ll want to keep both worlds.
I’m afraid to watch it because the premise is so cool I’m afraid of seeing it ruined.
I heard this show was to be a mid-season replacement, but NBC announced it’s schedule and no still Awake.
I want to stay optimistic since the trailer was so awesome, but I heard bad things about this show back in August. That they are still tinkering with the show is a bad sign.
