Wow, too much bandwidth! What to do?

Today, after waiting years and years, suffering toil and heartache and tears… the cable company finally came through and dug that last mile of tin-cans & string, only 3 years late.

And now finally, at long frigging last, I have broadband! Cable Internet. 1.5 mbps/128kbps. Whee!

OK, so, what neat stuff can I do with this kinda bandwidth? Where’s the stuff us dial-up shitheads couldn’t even dream about before?!? How can I best use my new found power, for good or evil ?

Disclaimers and explanatia:

  1. I’m not migrating from dialup, I’m migrating from StarBand, so I have had tiny glimpses of what a fast connection is like. However the bandwidth and responsiveness difference from StarBand to cable internet is pretty damned amazing; I feel as if I was on dialup before this.
  2. Yes, I did buy this connection for a reason, I bought it for working at home, and my job is paying for it, and it’s going to be darned useful for that purpose. I’m just wondering what other silly fun can be had with a connection the size of a firehose.

There’s no such thing as too much bandwidth.

First, you might check if their are any monthly upload limitations.

You could host your own web server using Apache or other freeware http servers.

You could stream audio or video from countless places.

You could mumble mumble file sharing program mumble mumble!

There are all kinds of amazingly fun things to do. Sadly, we can’t discuss them on this board.

Boobies. Lots and lots of boobies.

Welcome to the real internet, squeegee.

I second Gorsnak. “Too much bandwidth” is an impossible state, in the same realm as “faster than light.”

I used it for porn.

But then that is my job.

I also used it for getting movie trailers, and just enjoyed it for the sheer speed.

I no longer have it as it isn’t available in my street. Dammit. I miss it!

Download large, uneccesary things that you don’t need for your computer just because you can.

Streamed audio. Sound quality varies depending on your bandwidth, so they should sound much better now.

Boobies and music and trailers. (oh, my!)

I suppose that’s a good combination (have all three!), but…

…that’s it ?

Jeez, no wonder the telecoms imploded.

Downlaod all those huge patches you have been needing for your system, games, etc., and then, BOOBIES!!!

::tear rolling down an eye:: … upon the fruited plains…

There’s no such thing as too much bandwidth. Though if you have broadband, you owe it to yourself to get into gaming and porn.

WHoa, thats some pretty shitty cable you got there. Thats what my DSL(actually I get 256 upload HAH!) gets, and it’s guaranteed!

You can never have too much bandwidth.

Yeah, you’re right. I guess I’ll go back to dialup, it’s much nicer.

Try some online gaming. Large bandwidith is crucial.

Oh yeah I forgot, streamed porn video!!!

I wasn’t advocating that I’m just wondering why is your cable so slow? Last time I looked at cable it ran aroudn 15 mbit down/1.5mbit up. GRanted… this was 2 years ago.
