When QT has made first episodes of TV shows they’ve been great (I’m not aware of any counter-examples…)
The JJ movies completely missed the point of trek and I didn’t even bother to watch the third one. This has a chance of being great.

The Machete preview was one of the best parts of Grindhouse. I know Machete isn’t QT strictly speaking, but Grindhouse (also not a QT only movie, I know) was what I was drawing on when I thought *Machete=Sulu *
