If you see something obviously in the wrong forum and it is not seen by the moderators, is offense taken if you email someone?
Or is it better to stay out of it? I just saw a thread in the totally wrong forum, and it had been up a while and I wondered if it was overlooked. I certainly don’t want to overstep anything here. Just curious about how the mods felt about this.
Please do e-mail a moderator. Especially when the board is as slow as it has been lately, there are things we miss, or at least things I miss. We may not always take your suggestions, we really do appreciate them.
I have a related question… Posters frequently post questions in the wrong forum (especially GD) that quickly turn into controversies that belong on GD. Why are they so often closed instead of moved? I have no sense of what causes a mod to close a thread.
A thread is moved when the OP was sincerely making a mistake when he posted it, and when the thread can still “fit” in any of the other designated fora.
However, a poster doesn’t own a thread he starts. If someone starts a thread called “How many yards in a mile?” in Great Debates, and the thread has about 50 posts debating the metric system vs. the Imperial system before a mod gets to it, he or she may decide to just leave it in GD - provided the original question has already been answered.
