Why is the displayed time 18 minutes slow? My computer clock is set automaticly, so I’m pretty sure it’s correct.
My clock right now says 3:10 pm yours says 2:52pm.
Thanks
In this thread several conjectures are suggested to account for the discrepancy. It is a very common phenomenon among internet message boards.
Your clock is fast. The SDMB clock is only about 8-9 minutes slow.
Well, now it’s just 10 minutes different. As I said, mine is set automaticly. I just checked, it was last synched at 10:47:47am on
8/27/03 so I had it re-synch now. It didn’t change…
Does that mean the atomic clock in Denver is fast? Some one should tell them!
Probably you loaded a page, and then waited like nine minutes, and then compared the time on the page to your clock’s time. That’s what probably happened.
mins? to me it’s off by an hour!
Well, no that isn’t what happened. But, hey, I have a clock, and a brain. I’ll figure it out.
The clock is deliberately set at exactly 17.4327 minutes slow, to reflect the difference between Sandwich Mean Time and Sidereal Only-Mildly-Grouchy Time.
Thank you Dexter It’s perfectly clear now. My world will once more turn.
I thought that was the problem in the first place- your world was turning 18 minutes faster than the SDMB world.
Oh Yeah. I forgot. And now its only 9 minutes different. Hey! If My world is faster than SDMB world, why didn’t I already know all this?? :dubious:
Then spake picunurse to CECIL in the day when CECIL delivered up the Ignorants before the posters of the SDMB, and he said in the sight of the SDMB, Sun, stand thou still in the sight of the World Wide Web; and thou, Moon, before the eyes of the Internet. And the Earth stood still, and the Sun and the Moon appeared to stay, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book which cometh after the Triumph of the Straight Dope? So the Earth stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to turn about a quarter part of an hour. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that CECIL hearkened unto the voice of a man: for CECIL fought for the SDMB.
MEBucknew do you have a cite for that? You know Book & Verse. Thanks.
Well, it’s not from Joshua 10:12. In fact, the name “CECIL” doesn’t appear anywhere in the entire Bible.
