Wrong turn at Albuquoiky

I use Firefox browser. When it can’t find a site, it sometimes puts up a page that shows an anonymous creature holding a map and looking puzzled. I never much paid attention to what was on the map, but today I happened to notice that the map was actually of New Mexico, showing an outline of the state and the two interstates in it. And a dot where they meet at Albuquerque. So of course, I immediately thought of Bugs …

Yes it must be. And for trivia buffs, Bugs first wrong turn was in a cartoon titled “Herr Meets Hare” It was made in 1945, not long before the Allied victory in Europe. Bugs took thewrong turn and ended up in the Black Forest in Germany, meeting Hermann Goering. This cartoon also featured the music of Wagner, with thier encounter containing an early version, later reworked, of the encounter between Elmer Fudd and Bugs in “What’s Opera, Doc?”

Kill da wabbit!

Too late to edit:

The following You Tube video is from a high school that did a live action version of “What’s Opera Doc?”

And mere weeks before one Eddie Slovik was tied to a post and shot for desertion by US forces in France. Yet more trivia, and presented as a somewhat curious juxtaposition of history. I sometimes find it hard to wrap my head around things like that. I wonder, for instance, if Eddie Slovik liked bugs bunny too, or how he might have felt about the series of war cartoons featuring characters like Donald Duck (among others, but Donald mostly because I used to watch a VHS with perhaps half a dozen of his WWII-era shorts as a kid).

Forgive my musings.
