WTF Celebrity News: Jennifer Hudson's family killed

Someone started this yesterday evening.

That also identifies the nephew as the son of her sister Julia.

How sad. Hope the child is found safe and sound. :frowning:

Reported for merging.

And to have it happen when she’s sitting on top of the world after a fairy tale ride up there. She must have felt like Cinderella at times.

There’s a couple hiccups here because I merged the duplicate thread, rather than just closing it with the link. Oh, well.

the shroud and askeptic, the proper response when you suspect someone of thread-shitting is to REPORT the post to the moderators (little ! in red triangle in upper right corner of post)… and let the moderator decide. Please don’t go playing “junior mod” and don’t make accusations/personal insults against other posters in this forum.

In this case, I’m very sympathetic to Miller’s question: the murders were front page, huge headlines, in this morning’s Chicago Tribune and made no mention of who Jennifer Hudson was. Left me clueless. The link provided in the OP doesn’t say directly, you have to go searching a second link. I think Miller’s question was perfectly appropriate. It’s fine for the OP to provide a link to the story rather than recap it, but in this case the story was poorly written, assuming that reader knows who Ms Hudson is. askeptic, it’s unreasonable to ask someone to do a google search to answer a question that one expects to be answered in the OP (or in an the immediate link.)

And, let me add, as a minor aside: even if Miller’s post were some sort of back-handed insult to Ms Hudson, that’s not against our rules. In threads about celebrity deaths (or those close to them), we do allow negative comments about the celebrity. I personally think it’s dreadful, but it’s the rules that the majority of posters wanted, and my job is to enforce them.

Just as a matter of courtesy, it’s always good to provide a sentence or two of summary. Many people, especially at work, don’t want to follow links around all over the place, and this one was to MTV, which may be blocked at some workplaces.

Not a rule, just a good thing to do.

The phrase “kind of” is unnecesssary in the above sentence.

Ah, I never heard of her either, pretty bloody presumptuous to respond like that for a C level pseudo celebrity.

Agreed. There’ve been a lot of RIP threads with just a name and a link – not all of us are 100% familiar with everyone in pop culture, science, academia, sports, politics, etc.

Since when is a recent Academy-Award winning actress considered to be a C-level pseudo celebrity?

The perception of threadshitting, I think, comes from the fact that the attached link provided both background and links to more information about Ms. Hudson. Now, I’ve never watched American Idol, and I only know her from Dreamgirls, which I paid no attention to, as I was just taking the nieces; but it seems silly to implicitly complain about being uninformed when the OP offered ample opportunity to inform onself.

People often start threads on AI or sports figures, and I rarely have a clue who is being talked about. I don’t speak dismissively of the topic, though, and my official board persona is that of a jackass.

That would be ever since Louise Fletcher won.

OMG, Louise Fletcher RULED! Nurse Ratched, the grandmother from Flowers in the Attic, Kai Wynn on Deep Space 9…the woman had an awesome talent for “bitch”.

Even if she were simply a c-level pseudo celebrity, the only real response to this news is “How f-ing horrible. How sad”. any man’s death diminishes me and all that.
But I don’t think simply asking who she was is threadshitting. I always tell the kids at the high school to ask questions; there are no dumb questions, etc. And yes, those of us at work can’t always go linking around the internets.

I rest my case.

Update. Authorities think they have found her newphew’s body.

SHIT SHIT SHIT!

That’s kind of a threadshi–

OW! OW! OW!

This is a sad thread. But if we can’t keep trying to laugh, what’s the point of still being alive?

Yes, finding comedy in all moments is truly the only thing that gives life meaning. That is why so many people invite Sarah Silverman to funerals and ask that she remain in character the entire time.

The day I don’t feel outrage over a child being abducted and murdered by someone who is suppose to protect them is the day y9u can murder me.
