I generally ignore the graphic “noise” around an article, because it’s usually just advertising. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that.
Admittedly, I did have other tools at my disposal to find out who Jennifer Hudson is, including clicking all the links on the page, and not just reading the article. But I figured, I’ve got the Dope open, there’s a thread about her, and purpose of the Dope being, after all, the fighting of ignorance, I figured I could just politely ask here.
Maybe it was just your tersely-worded unemotional response added to the fact that it was the first response to the OP. It just came off as rather cold. If it was just “easier” for you to ask, than to look her up or click on a link, don’t you think it was probably “easier” for us to forego taking the time to compose a meaninfgul, yet concise paragraph on who she was? Not an asshole, just mistaken.
If you didn’t want to take the time to answer my question, you could have simply ignored it. Certainly, that would be easier than accusing me of thread shitting because I didn’t catch the Oscars two years back.
You think you guys could take it to the Pit or something?
Not like I’m president of the Jennifer Hudson fan club or anything, but considering the story cooking here, your arguing seems a little uncouth and out of place.
That poor kid. Poor any crime victim I know we all can’t die in our sleep at the age of 100 surrounded by our loved ones, but our last hours shouldn’t be filled with fear.
Sorry Skip but I’m adding my 2 cents because it’s relevant to the thread. It’s a basic writing skill to spell out the background in the first sentence and first paragraph. I’m not hammering the poster because it’s easy to assume somebody is recognized. But in defense of Miller I clicked on the thread to see what was going on and was met with another link-o-gram of non-information. I still don’t have a good feel for who she is from reading this thread.
As Miller asked, I too wanted to know the who behind the tragedy. I had no clue who Hudson is but I did want to know the background so I could get invested in the story. A narrative would still be helpful. I didn’t know who Louise Fletcher is by name but I now have a reference to her. It would be nice if people would show a little love and voice their views of her and her accomplishments (positive given the tragedy).
With that said it would suck to be a celebrity during a time of crisis. It’s not that the media is going to be mean to her but having to deal with it on top of everything else would certainly add to the stress.
She just released her first album and it’s gotten good reviews. She has a movie playing in theaters now too, The Secret Life of Bees. I just saw it the other night and she’s wonderful in it. Dreamgirls wasn’t a fluke. She really can act.
By all accounts she’s a very nice, very friendly, very humble person with great talents. This would be an awful thing if no one related to the family were famous, but I do feel so bad for her and her sister.
It’s especially sad considering how high and how fast she made it. And now the whole tragedy will play out before the public. I’d definitely be wanting to stay private over something like this, but she’ll have no such luck. I have every sympathy.
