WTF? Was Up With The Simpsons Tonight?

Discovered in 1956 by Carl’s Dad.

Nor, apparantly, were those two sailors in the “Flaming Mo” episode.

I saw the “Carl’s Dad” gag at the beginning, and chuckled.

But from then on, I cracked not even one single grin.

There were some things that could have been funny–for example, the particular way in which they were teasing Burns in the Tavern. The basic idea was funny. But something–the timing?–was just all off.

For the most part, not even the basic ideas were funny.

(I should note, however, that alot of people are saying there was something about the ram telling his story, but though I was sure I saw the entire episode, I have no recollection of this.)

[Ram shakes his head, revealing Lisa’s necklace]
Lisa: [gasps] My pearl necklace! I must have lost it. And you were just bringing it back to me?
[Ram bleats positively]
Lisa: How did you find it?
[Ram bleats, as if beginning a story]
[A thought bubble opens, revealing the ram in a forest. He looks at a necklace on a tree branch and gives a surprised bleat. He hooks the necklace onto on of his horns. Thought bubble closes]

[thought bubble closes, revealing Bart talking to Principal Skinner]
Bart:…and that’s why I didn’t have time to study for my geography test.
Skinner: Bart, do you expect me to believe that? That story is the biggest load of cr…Krabappel? Making out with Moe?
[Skinner looks out his window, and indeed, this is what’s happening]
Moe: But I thought you didn’t want to date a tavern owner.
Krabappel: At this point, all I want’s a man with a healthy libido.
Moe: Huh. Well, this is where it gets awkward again.
[pan to reveal Rich Texan]
Rich Texan: Yee-haw! Moe can’t catch a break! [taps his toe four times] One, two, three, four. [fires pistols] Can’t catch a break! One, two, three, four. Can’t catch a break! One, two, three, four. [Credits begin] And there’s some producers. One…two, three, four. Four producers.

Wait a minute, did I just type what I thought I typed? I just realized that the person who the Simpsons fan community considers to be the worst writer ever wrote this episode! Granted, he probably didn’t write the whole thing, but this is pretty good coming from him. Oh, yeah…

An excellent episode! Best of the season. I laughed, I cried, I flashed back.

oh yes, I am from KCMO and was plagued by the same problems.

I loved what I got to see though

The Simpsons and The Office are the two shows that always seem to randomly be a minute or two off with their start or end times. Really plays hell with us DVR viewers.

Thanks for the recap, mobo85!

The best line was when Burns forgets his password to the Panic Room and when it asks him for his birthplace he says “Pangea.”

Not a lot of people are going to get that one.

Count me in the “best ep in a long time” crowd. Burns on the bus, freaking out the kids with every look, had me rolling. And Homer’s toupee was great, too.

It tickled me somewhat that after that the new password for his panic room was emailed to him.
I pretty much enjoyed the whole thing.

“Your password has been e-mailed.”

Sounds like I didn’t miss much by losing the last few seconds.

Including me! Am I worthy of enlightenment?

Pangea was the original supercontinent

Jim

And if Burns was born there, he would have to have been born millions of years ago.

That does clarify it doesn’t it? I might as well add in. The theory is that Pangea formed 300 million years ago. The name was coined by Alfred Wegener, chief proponent of Continental Drift in 1915.

Jim

Why do they consider him the worst writer ever? He wrote one of my favorite episodes: Tomacco! He also wrote the one where they go to New York, another classic.

This one was good. I like it when they try something different.

An overall better episode than normal. I watched from beginning to end, not allowing the normal things like commercials allow me to find a new channel and stay there. Something The Simpson’s have not been able to do as well these last few years.

I’ve heard people like you existed, but I never believed it until now.

You have insulted my honor, sir. I demand satisfaction. I challenge you to a duel! glove slap

I admit it’s a pretty crazy episode. I guess you either love it or you hate it.

Well I thought those episodes where rather amusing. The driving with the boot, was personally funny. As a friend of mine actually tried that.

The Tomacco episode was funny indeed.
