Wuthering Heights, Depths and Carparks - a charitable MMP

This flummoxes me. I’ve always imagined the PNW would get more snow than the mid-Atlantic/Northeast region, and now I find all my imaginings are incorrect.

Oh, and it’s like sixty degrees today, for some unknown reason.

kai, that is too funny! Say, with all those fluff balls, have you ever considered taking up weaving?

Captain Cheeselog?

I meant to post this hours ago, but the Dope wouldn’t let me post and then I had to go do actual work! Oh well. Anyway, here’s what I meant to say:

And ammonia. If the cold water doesn’t take it out, soak it in ammonia (diluted with water so it doesn’t knock you out). Works like a charm.

Sorry, db. I’m not a dog person. Especially when they start barking at 6 a.m. on a weekend. And don’t stop for hours.

So I’ve got a moral dilemma. (OK, so it’s not really a very big dilemma, and the answer is obvious, but I don’t like the obvious answer so I’m looking for loopholes in my morals.) One of the fundraisers for Large Obnoxious Charity (unlike the good charities that we’ve all mentioned above) was selling stickers for Casual Dress days. If you bought an entire set, you can wear jeans from now through the end of December. But I didn’t a) because I don’t like Large Obnoxious Charity and b) because I’m going to be away for part of the time. But now I don’t have enough for the time I’m going to be here. But no one’s wearing the stickers (they’re just wearing jeans w/o a sticker saying they’re entitled to wear jeans). So I could get away with wearing jeans everyday because who’s going to know. And I don’t want everyone to know that I didn’t buy the whole month’s worth because I’ll look like a cheap ass.

So… I know it’s wrong to have only paid for part of the month and to wear jeans the whole time, but I’m looking for a loophole to soothe my conscience and to do it even though it’s wrong.

Nah - that would give Cheeselogs the world over a bad name…

My baby called me just to talk. AWWWWWWW! She’ll be here in 3 weeks and I’ll have her to myself for a week. Well, OK, I’ll have to share her with Daddy, but mostly to myself.

Dinner was yummy - steak, boiled N.O.T, broccoli, and punkin pie w/Cool Whip. My tummy is happy.

Tonight is firehouse dinner meeting, and I heard rumors of more airpack drills immediately following. We’ll be having chili, so the airpack drill will be timely…

Still waiting for my classes to start in January. Until then, it’s all OTJ. Since I’ve had a total of five runs to date with just one on-scene with an out-of-hand trash fire, I’m not training very fast…

doggio you haven’t been to a party in the south until a chainsaw is involved. Just sayin’.

puggy here’s hopin’ things get better with the grampuses. Good thoughts and prayers headed down to Flahrdy from south Jawja. I’m glad you and the princess are getting a break.

Kai funny with the Poms and cat there!

Jah I recommend chocolate and pampering. One can never go wrong with those.

Ok, as to the details of the party. Yes, there were bandanas and sleeveless flannel shirts ala Larry The Cable Guy. There were also shaved heads and lots of leather… WOOF That was especially for gotti. As to missing teeth, I did not count cause that would have been uncouth and as you all know I am the very essence of couth. On the subject of peein’ on the fire, no one did, at least while I was there. We left after three hours cause sis was tired and I had to get up and drive home yesterday. While I was there, all known peein’ was done behind the barn or, in the case of the ladies present, in the guest bathroom in the trailer. After all, we do practice some discretion. Our mamas taught us that.

The other thing that happened this weekend is that I got to see in person my newest great niece Kelly Rebecca who is two months old. Is everybody ready for a cuteness overload?

Unca swampy and Kelly

Altogether now, everybody say AWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

I’ve been to parties involving bikers, I’ve been to parties involving bears, and even some parties with chainsaws. Not sure I’ve ever been to one that had all three at once.

It was a crazy-busy weekend for us. On Thursday,. we had a house full of hungry people to help us devour a turkey. Before dinner, there was much cooking. After dinner, there was much cleaning and vegging out. After scouring the ads, I decided there was only one “Black Friday” thing that I wanted, and after checking the store’s website, I discovered that I could buy it online for in-store pickup and avoid all the lines and not worry about being the sixth person to want one of the five big plasma TVs available at the store.

On Friday, we had breakfast, puttered around the house and mid-afternoon, I started measuring vehicles to figure out which one I’d be able to fit the TV into. Our Jeep wasn’t tall enough (You can’t transport a plasma screen laying flat or it’s very likely to crack.) Someone else’s Honda Elephant was tall enough, but wasn’t long enough. Plan C: Once I took the cap off someone’s pickup truck, I’d have all the height in the world available, so four bolts later, we were off. Only one other person in line at the pickup window, so we were in and out of the mall in under ten minutes.

Turns out that if I’d been patient enough to wait another two days, I wouldn’t have to dismantle anyone’s truck as we bought a new freaky-big pickup truck on Saturday. We’d been pondering such a purchase for a couple months as the Jeep just wasn’t up to the task of towing our trailer. It had the muscle but just couldn’t pull the trailer and keep all four wheels on the ground. We hadn’t planned on buying the “Mega Cab” model, but we got it for better than 35% off MSRP - guess the dealer was tired of looking at all those '06 models at the end of November. Just as well we got rid of the Jeep. One dealer we shopped at asked if we’d been having suspension or alignment problems, (No. Why do you ask?) and another said it needed new front tires without asking about alignment problems. I had the tires rotated in August, so it’s a very new problem for someone else to handle. Now, our problem is figuring out how to park this yacht.

Stabbing pain turned into someone jamming an icepick into my head and I’m dizzy and nauseated and cold. This is a real head banger, all right. Just 2 more hours and I can go home. Of course, if I actually throw up, I guess I can go home sooner. I’ll be very popular if I do that, too.

Kelly’s adorable, swampy.

Counting the minutes until I can go home, take my vicodan, and crawl into bed.

AWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Is that a bird on her left hand???

taxi even though nobody would know since they aren’t wearing the stickers, I’d say don’t do it because you didn’t buy tickets for the whole month. No shame in not wholeheartedly supporting a charity you don’t feel good about. It’s more important you support those you like, however you choose to show support.

Speaking of which… some of you seem to think it’s less important to give money than to do something for charity. As somebody who works for a charitable organization, let me say this… you’re dollars are always appreciated. Some people donate, some people like to do hands on stuff… it’s all good.

Think of it like this. You know how with some kinds of home improvement the best tool is a checkbook? Well, charitable works can be the same way. Heck, I give money and time to those things I think are worth it. We can’t be everything to everybody, so whatever places or things or people you devote your time and money to, well, good for you!

Well, her mama is left handed, her Unca swampy is left handed, who knows!

gotti yay for the butch new pickemup truck. Gone cruisin’ in it yet?

Haven’t done any cruising yet. Still being very timid with it as it’s like learning how to drive all over again. The Jeep was nimble, turned on a dime and fit comfortably into almost any “compact” parking spot, but this thing’s huge, has the turning radius of a panamax oil tanker and we’ll just have to be “That damn truck that’s taking two spots” and it’ll take a bit of time to get used to where the corners are, especially out back.

Weather’s been too sloppy and the roads have been too dangerous anyway. It was a very good weekend for body shops with over 90 collisions in the area yesterday, 30 of which happened in just one hour - probably the first hour after it started raining. Parked in our driveway was the best place to be. But sooner or later, we’ll find a nice day and a good road to see what that Hemi can do.

Thanks for the ammonia suggestion, taxi. As it turned out, since I got the shirt into the cold water before the blood had set, it all came out. Papa Tigs didn’t mention the three hankies he’d also bled into, however, till he got home a few minutes ago; they’re soaking now. So he may be heading to the store soon for some ammonia. (That’s one thing I hate about moving – all those seldom-used-but-necessary items like ammonia have to be left behind, and it can cost a small fortune to replace them all!)

Kelly is absolutely adorable! She does look a little horrified about her Unca Swampy, though. Clearly, she is a young lady with great powers of discernment.

Swampy --she is adorable. The way she’s posed, she LOOKS like a doll. I mean a real babydoll, like in a box etc. Gorgeous eyes.

Tears over here. #2 son did his spelling homework. He did it for the wrong unit. They’re on Unit 13, he did pages 55-56, which is Unit 22…The English homework is pages 55-56 in a different workbook.

Oy. I gave him a lil break until after dinner. Which will be <drumroll> Toad-in-the-Hole! I decided to make it tonoc. It smells delish.
New truck? WOW!

kaiwik -I saw a blanket/throw type thing in Target the other day, made from bamboo! Never hoid of floors, though.

Dinner’s in the oven, laundry is waiting to be done, and Casa Pero is manclean. I sold my Saturday hockey tickets this evening, so I can go and buy some more week day tickets.

swampy, I’ve been to parties with beer, motorcycles, guns, and explosives, does that qualify? Nice bird on Kelly.

kai, Lucretia does the same thing with Maggie.

She’s just in awe of the greatness that is her legacy is all. Come to think of it, shortly after that piccy was taken she did do one huge smelly dump, complete with grunt. SNIFF Made her Unca swampy proud!

gotti that’s one of my fantasies… big butch bear in a pickup drivin’ up, rollin’ down the window and sayin’ “nice ass. get in the truck.” Just a little sump’n for inspiration there. Besides, it’s Monday evening and we ain’t had any TMI yet.

Ooooh, so much activity, so many people, so much info…

People: Hi Eonwe , Al, kai, Shibb, tarra, LOUNE and other MMPers we haven’t seen really really recently (I’m sure I missed someone - sorry). Yeah, I know you posted at some point last week, Mr. McCello, but I noticed that you posted elsewhere yesterday AND NOT HERE, where we thought you understood it was required. ::sniff:: Oh and where is Spats? Studying, I suppose? What kind of excuse is that? And you know who else hasn’t stopped by in ages (besides Mika, who I know is busy)? Telperien. You’re out there, right? How’s it going?

I have bamboo sheets. They are nice and soft and the exact color I’d been looking for for ages. Maybe I’ll get bamboo floors to go with them.

Loved the pom story, by the by, kai. Also, thought of you this morning/yesterday when they were talking about fishing on the radio. Can’t find the story, so maybe it was a dream?

Fraid I’m with swampy on the moral dilemma, taxi. Who knows, maybe it will motivate them to get a real cause to donate to for jeans-wearing privileges.

Gratz on the new truck, gotti.

I miss Nava. Surely she and her car have arrived in Chocolate and Cuckoo-Clock Land. Don’t they have internet connections there?

Very cute baby, swampy. She looks all serious. Reminds me of me at that age. There are several pictures of me looking all solemn.

Sorry about the toxicity, Puggy. Hope the respite helps smooth things out some.

Bummer about the project, FCM. I hate it when people don’t understand the real-life constraints behind stuff. I’ve been suffering from similar stuff for the last 6 months or so. Unfortunately, I own most of the project and have to deal with the idiots (well-meaning though they are) who don’t understand what has to happen to get a project implemented.

Do you cook extra to make up for MIL, LiLi? I can’t even imagine you in a food-free household like that.

Speaking of TMI (don’t blame me, swampy started it), how are QD’s skivvies? (I can’t believe no one asked. How come I always have to do the heavy lifting?)

I was amazingly productive tonight. Got home early, worked in the garden for over an hour and then took a shower and had dinner. Garden stuff was about 1/2 of what I needed to do. Tomorrow is the other half.

I should do more tonight. Maybe launder all the gardening clothes.
