www.yourname.com

When I type my initials (BED), I get a bed website.

First name (Jacqueline) turns up nothing. Or apparently nothing.

Last name…why…that’s MY web site! I registered my last name a few years ago. It is an unusual name here in the US, but more common in the UK. In fact, some guy from the UK wrote me and wanted to know about buying it. (I’m not interested.) But he has bought up the .net and .org versions of the domain. But he won’t get .COM!!! Mwahahahah!!!

http://www.drew.com - I’m not sure what it is, but You Wouldn’t Believe The Profits!!!

http://www.drew.net - page linking to sites about wolves, oddly enough

http://www.drew.edu - Drew University, Madison, NJ

http://www.drew.org - connection refused

http://www.lastname.com - cybersquatter
http://www.drewbert.com - OK, this is where it gets confusing. I checked this a few months ago, and it was available, so I really should have snapped it up… though I have no idea what I’d put on it. Now there’s something there, but one frame is for “namezero” which I guess is a domain name registering service… And the top frame is http://www.killa.org, a site for fans of Quake shoot-em-ups. So did someone buy the domain name just to put someone else’s web site in it?

[ul][li]http://www.satan.com/ - Satan’s Playhouse has nothing but an e-mail link and a link that says they won for Worst Of The Web in 1997 because all it was was an e-mail link. They don’t update frequently there, I guess.[/li][li]http://www.satan.net/ - Seems to be another entrance to bondage.com. You can never have too many entrances to bondage.com, you know…[/li][li]http://www.satan.org/ - Satellite/Amateur Navigation Web Site, though it does ask, “What were you expecting, pitch-forks and pointy tails?”[/ul][/li]As for my first name…
[ul][li]http://www.brian.com - Austin Web Publishing, Inc. website. What this has to do with Brian, I don’t know…[/li][li]http://www.brian.net/ - Seems to belong to someone named Brian, oddly enough. He lives in Texas, is 18 and his May wedding was shown online. The intro here made me laugh. He appears to be a Christian.[/li][li]http://www.brian.org/ - This leads to a directory for Brian of brian.net fame with a bunch of Christian links.[/ul][/li]Now, we’ll try my very common last name…
[ul][li]- This is for O’NEILL WETSUITS & SPORTSWEAR, a company I actually heard of. I had a sticker from them given to me by a friend several years ago for obvious reasons.[/li][li]http://www.oneill.net/ - Personal webpage for Clayton O’Neill. Not too inspiring, but his resume was fun to look at.[/ul][/li]And may as well check my middle name…
[ul][li]http://www.keith.net/ - Something that was purchased by Sunfire Networks, those bastards!![/li][li]http://www.keith.org/ - The home of the Keith E-mail Service where, it seems, you can buy an _____@keith.org e-mail to use.[/ul][/li]For first and last name…
[ul][li]http://www.brianoneill.com/ - Website for Brian E. O’Neill, an Canadian architect![/li][li]http://www.brianoneill.net/ - Website for a Brian O’Neill in Belfast (there’s a shocker…) though there seems to be nothing here except a single page and an e-mail link.[/ul][/li]And what the hay…
[ul][li]http://www.bko.com/ - This goes to something called yada.com which seems to be one of those free e-mail dealies.[/li][li]http://www.bko.net - Seems to have been cybersquatted.[/ul][/li]That was more fun than I anticipated… I really need to get out more often…

Mine is apparently a rather bizarre corporate site for the MiShell Corporation. The front page is just “The MiShell Corporation” then this weird picture of a cup off coffee superimposed over some mountains, and then, with no explanation, the words “Coffee Slim” underneath. And that’s it. There’s no faq, no information about this company, all there is is this front page, an order form (they sell coffee, cocoa, and essential oils. Hmmm) and then this truly odd links page with three links completely unrelated to coffee, cocoa, or essential oils, again, with absolutely no explanation. The links are, “International Space Station,” “InfoArt Technology News,” and “A Collection of Russion Music.” I’m puzzled.

If I type in my first name, I get a company website that performs technical services.

For my last name, it’s a website that sells microscopes.

I even tried my middle name. All that is shown is a webpage that says, “This page has been accessed 6712 times since 04/02/2000”.

Oh, what the heck, I have nothing better to do…

Firstname.com: an offshore diamond exploration company (I had no idea that such things existed).

Firstname.org: Nevada Outdoor Recreation Association

Firstname.net: a Spanish ISP

Firstname.co.uk: National Online Record of Achievement 2000 (after examining the page in some detail, I am still not sure exactly what this is).

Lastname.com: cybersquatting

Lastname.anything else: Nada

Middlename.com: more cybersquatting

Middlename.org: an error message

Middlename.net: Somebody’s home page, consisting solely of a link to a resume on a tasteful blue background with white doggie bones.

Tried both sf.ca.us and http://www.sf.ca.us … Zip.
Maybe I should apply for the names. They sound like good addresses, don’t they?

I’m surprised at how few people encountered squatter scum. Mine’s squatted upon.

My first name is a CHEESY not-famous singer. I mean, really cheesy. Like Vegas only not getting paid much.

Last name appears to be an engineering firm. Maiden name is a nebulous consulting firm. Shortened version of my first name is unoccupied.

Interesting.
