Ok–so I am an old lady and fell asleep last night right in the middle of the episode. UGGHHHH! I got to the point where Scully kicked Doggett out of her apartment. Can anyone provide a synopsis of what followed? Also, any info given on why Scully is being such a bitch-on-wheels? Was the fatherhood issue brought up at all?
Trying to describe an episode of X-files - now, THAT’S a challenge!
Let’s see, after Scully kicked Doggett out, she put the baby down and had a nap; she woke up to see the mobile over the baby’s bed turning, with no apparent source of motivation. She stopped the mobile, then it started turning again (meanwhile, baby was crying). She then called Doggett to ask him more about how weird her baby is supposed to be. Monica was down in the basement in the X-files room; she broke her pencil lead, couldn’t find another, and got up on the desk to pull one of Mulder’s pencils out of the ceiling to use. While she was up there, someone came and left a clipping about the dead EPA guy for her. Brad tries to get the Deputy Director to arrest Doggett, but DD tells Brad to do it himself.
Doggett, Monica, and Skully do an autopsy on the dead EPA guy. They find he died of drowning; Scully and Monica have a bonding female moment, and then they discover what appear to be fingerprints on the corpse’s ankle.
Scully and Monica see Xena in the hallway coming towards them. They keep walking (Monica is now suspicious of Xena), and Xena disappears. Monica and Scully run into Brad (Cary Elwes) and a bunch of goons. Brad tries to make a fuss, but the corpse has disappeared with no trace.
Doggett and Skinner go to the water reclamation plant (somewhere in here there is a tie-in between the dead EPA guy and the dead water plant guy, but I forget how that came about), Brad and goons show up, there is a lot of running and chasing, Doggett hides in the big pool of water, and Xena comes up out of the depths to grab Doggett’s ankle and drag him down. Roll credits.
Whew, hope that helps. Oh yeah, no idea why Scully is being so nasty (she always seems nasty to me, so I really didn’t notice a difference :D), and fatherhood was not brought up. And we still don’t know where Mulder is.
featherlou–Thank You so much!! That was an admirable job. So did they ever get into why/what Xena was? I was thinking that she was some kind of evil water-nymph type thing, mainly because the EPA guy was anti-water in the beginning. The way you described it, though, it seems as if the storyline will continue into next week so maybe they will get into it then. I still can’t believe I fell asleep. It’s so embarrassing that I can’t even stay up until 10:00 anymore. I mean really. I used to be cool.
Snooooopy–I’ve been kind of hanging on episode-by-episode myself. I thought last year was a big improvement though, especially once I got used to Doggett. I was really glad they went back to more stand-alone monster stories and backed a little off the conspiricy mess. I’m hoping this year keeps it up. ::fingers crossed::
I’m so embarrassed; I forgot the best part of the show. The Lone Gunmen showed up to help Doggett, with some of the funniest lines of the show (of course). They helped him because they “had nothing better to do now except for unemployment”, and the blonde guy still had a blue-dyed face. HA! I love those guys!
No, they didn’t get into what Xena was at all. She definitely should be back next week. My WAG - she’s the type of super-soldier that Scully’s baby has been bred to be.
Don’t feel bad about the falling asleep thing; I was bitching just this weekend about all the good shows being on so late, so I have to stay up to 11:00 pm to watch them, or tape 'em all. Can we say “middle-aged”?
Don’t forget the part where Doggett is calling up all his old army buds while looking at their picture, and as he calls the last name on the list, a woman, it pans to the picture and we see Xena there. This might’ve been before Scully kicked Doggett out of her house, but I don’t really remember. Just thought I’d share.
In the beginning of the episode, just after the recap, there is the vague outline of someone showering in Scully’s bathroom. As the epi picks up hours after last season’s finale, I think it’s safe to assume the person showering is Mulder.
In another early scene, there are several large pieces of luggage in Scully’s living room. It looks like either someone is moving in or out, or is going away for a long time. Again, I think it’s safe to make assumptions-- in this case, that the luggage belongs to Mulder.
Doggett goes over to Mulder’s apartment and discovers that it is completely empty-- no furniture or other personal effects. He calls out Mulder’s name, but gets no answer.
Doggett then goes over to Scully’s, and asks her where Mulder is. Scully, rather evasively, says simply, “He’s gone”. Oddly, Doggett doesn’t press her to elaborate.
Later, in A. D. Skinner’s office, Reyes says that there’s nothing on Mulder’s whereabouts-- no record of him leaving via any commercial means, nor witnesses.
Duchovny’s name does not appear in the redone opening credits. (On a side note, Mitch Pileggi’s finally does.)
IIRC, Langley’s blue coloring was something that happened in an episode of the Lone Gunmen, set around the same time as the X-Files events. I’ve been trying to remember what happened. I’ll check the Lone Gunmen site, if it’s still up.
Xena seems to be another alien hybrid, like the ones featured at the end of last season (like Mulder almost became after “dying.”)
Does Scully look leaner and meaner? Even in the opening credits, she has a more stern expression in her FBI mugshot.
Hooray for Mitch, finally making it into the credits!
Did anybody else notice that they slightly changed the theme music? I found it distressing.
Here’s a bit of trivia: All the badges you see in the opening credits (for all seasons) say: “Federal Bureau of Justice, United States Department of Investigation” on them in little letters. I wonder what that’s about.
