XBox One problem

I just got an XBox One and I’m trying to get Rise of the Tomb Raider (my only game so far) working.

I put in the CD and…you’d think it would just…y’know…play, right?

Wrong.

First it has to download something. (possibly from the CD)

Then, about 25% of the way through, it says it’s ready to play, but it lies–it just takes me to the XBox store where I keep getting offers to buy the game I have in my hand.

Then, when I get to 100%, and I try to play, it says something about an update. I try to skip it, but can’t.

It takes for-freaking-ever (like 15/20 minutes–and I have a fast internet and wifi connection) but it finally finishes. Then I go to play.

And it gives me a note saying something about “Getting your game ready for play”. After about 5 minutes, it tells me that something went wrong and gives me an error code telling me to go to xbox.com/support (or support.xbox.com). I type in the error code and it tells me that the super-secret code means that the download went bad and that I should delete the download and start again.

I’ve done that at least three times and there’s no change.

Any suggestions? I’m getting frustrated. Any help/suggestions would really be appreciated. Grrrr.

Call the help desk. Explain what you’ve done and they can probably help you out.

Yeah giving consoles Internet has had the side-effect of letting companies ship a not-finished game and then make the user download a patch immediately when they run it. Which is no fun for those of us with slow Internet.

Just an idea, try turning your internet off and then load/launch the game.

Go to your games and apps hub and delete tomb raider. Disconnect your console from the internet. Turn it all the way off by pressing power button and holding for 10 sec or so. Reboot stick game in and reinstall. All games install to hard drive so either the install from disc or a patch it tried to download got corrupted. Rare but it happens

forgot to add when you install it is always better to shut off your internet as it installs faster for some reason.
And enjoy the game it is really good!

Turning the thing off seems to have done the trick. I’d tried all the other steps, but didn’t turn it off. I’m now playing the game and man…video-games have changed (the last system I was into was the…whatever Nintendo was before the N64. This is all kind of amazing.

Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it!
