Xtf? (Spoilers for X-Men movie)

We could theorize (and I certainly would like to) that even the one at the campsite wasn’t his original duplicate. I liked how he was used, but I’d have saved him for the big fight, since as long as the “real” Madrox wasn’t shot, the rest would be ok. Also, technically he could argue that he didn’t do anything illegal and that he was acting out of fear of Magneto.

Someone else has already pointed out that it didn’t happen quite that way. I’d just like to add that Storm apparently has really good vision – perhaps even better under such conditions than Wolverine–and thus she simply didn’t care, and didn’t realize it was

Someone else has already pointed out that it didn’t happen quite that way. I’d just like to add that Storm apparently has really good vision – perhaps even better under such conditions than Wolverine–and thus she simply didn’t care, and didn’t realize it was bothering Logan till he said so (as she is NOT a mindreader.)

Well THAT was very suck. Glad to see they’ve followed the *Rocky *tradition of pounding a franchise into the ground and sucking all the life out of it rather than quitting while they’re ahead. I’d almost rather watch Robocop 3 than *XIII *again.

And since when is Xavier pronounced Eggzavier, instead of Zavier? I noticed Kelsey Grammer couldn’t bring himself to, essentially, say “nucular” just because everyone else is doing it; the one time he said the name he pronounced it right.

I don’t know, maybe you should ask Mr and Mrs Cougat.

It’s been pronounced that way for as long as it’s been vocalized outside the comics.

As someone who has no interest in comics, and cannot even remember if he has seen the first two movies, I have to say I really enjoyed this movie.

It was a lot of fun, and interestingly enough I found it much easier to suspend my disbelief than the supremely irritating Da Vinci Code.

Well, if you didn’t stay for the coda, you could say he was an Ex-xavier.

anyway

I’ve just come back from it, and I really liked it. Umm, that’s really all I wanted to say.

It’s always amusing to watch the fanboys come in and right away begin complaining about (insert movie adapted from written source material). Even if it was a faithful line for line adaptation of the Dark Phoenix saga, rather than a story written specifically for the movie, these same fanboys would complain. IMNSHO, these types just live to nitpick and complain.

I enjoyed the movie. It was good popcorn fare, cheap scriptwriting and acting aside. I had fun nitpicking the changes from the comic. I didn’t let those changes get in the way of the movie (well, maybe Juggernaut being a mutant, but that’s beside the point).

That made me chuckle.

I’m sufficiently behind in my reading that I thought the character was Flashback, another Marvel mutant from the Alpha Flight series.

Well, i grew up pronouncing it “Zavier,” but since i moved to the US i have only ever heard “Egg-zavier” or “Eck-zavier.”

I just assumed this was standard American pronunciation.

Plus the film would have to be about an hour or so longer. Ol’ Anti-Uncle Ben does seem to get the more complicated storylines.

I fourth this complaint - and they had to kill her off, too! Nice that the kept her shadow related abilities, but how hard would it have been to stick the knives in? Surely they’d cost about the same, SFX-wise.

Psylocke was a wasted oppurtunity. They should have got a caucasian actress to play her, have her killed off at the end, and then they’d be open to casting an asian actress as her in any future films - just explain it the same way as Xavier’s transferring was. They could have kept in with her backstory, and left her character open for future films! Consider me annoyed.

Actually, I just saw it and I thought Kelsey was perfectly cast as Beast.
Worst mutant power had to go to that guy who’s arms grew back every time Wolverine cut them off. How often do you need your arms to grow back?
I never really had a problem with Halle Berry as Storm but I always found her a little quiet and reserved for that character. I always thought Storm was older and more pretentious.

Movie Rogue is obviously nothing like the comic character as she is neither a) Southern, b) a redhead c) all up on Gambits jock or d) jacked up and flying (yes, I know the Miss Marvel thing).
We do get to see a nakid (although strategically covered) Mystique.

This is the X-Men franchise. Whatever the traditional pronunciation of Xavier is, it makes sense that they modify it for the X-Men’s leader. “X-Avier” instead of “Xavier”. Get it?

They definitely shot for early Storm, plus they probably didn’t want much competition or crossover with Wolverine, who, judging by his number of books and appearances, is much more popular and targets their demographic much better (unless, of course, Storm gets nekkid, and just for fun, has a three-way with Jean Grey and Mystique).

I sense a whoosh, but I can’t pin it down. Xavier Cougat has always been pronounced correctly, as Zavier, which is partly why I’m puzzled by this recent Eggzavier thing. Every time I hear it, I’m like, “This person obviously has no idea how to pronounce an initial X; their primer probably had X-ray rather than *xylophone *as an example.”

Get out of my mind!

Since Professor X pronounces it X-avier, then that is the correct pronunciation, lissener notwithstanding.

I third(?) the opinion that Kelsey was the perfect Beast. He was made for the role.

A record weekend gross isn’t hurting things, along with a B+ rating at Box Office Mojo. Spinoffs are coming, to be sure.

Nah…assuming he can do more than regrow his arms it’s actually pretty useful. Really, he’s got Wolverine’s regeneration, but it happens even quicker. Plus he’s generating matter constantly, so you could use him to fuel a stove for free and forever!

No woosh intended. I’ve always heard Mr Cougat’s first name pronounced Echzavier.

Gladly; the floor is all sticky.

I liked it. I left feeling entertained.

This was definitely positioned to be a summer blockbuster here in the states. I don’t think there was any sort of giving up due to Da Vinci Code. It felt like it had a typical summer advertising campaign. From the early numbers, it’s likely to beat DVC in box office sales. It had a $120 million opening weekend with a huge $32.6K/theater (estimated).

Huh. In 12-odd years (scattered brokenly over about 20) working in record stores, and 6 or so in and around radio stations, I have never heard it pronounce in any way other than Zavier.
