Xtf? (Spoilers for X-Men movie)

Where was Psylocke?? I got all excited when I heard she was supposed to be in this one, and then I spent the entire movie with one eyeball peeled looking for her, and the only sign of her was her name in the credits. Where was she?!? (Sorry, she’s my favorite.)

I was totally bummed by how many people died or got neutralized in this movie. I was so disappointed that Rogue gave up her powers like that (yeah, right! as if!) and we never got to see her with her post-Miss-Marvel powers of flying and super strength. Rogue is such a badass in the comics; how come she was kept a sulky teenager for all three films?

Also, remember in the second film when we see that cameo of Beast in his Hank McCoy (non-blue) form on the television in the bar when Mystique gets that security guard? In the comics he had some sort of device (Forge made it, right? It’s been a while.) that could make him appear like a regular human to others…did he just forget he used to be able to do that in this third movie?

Loved seeing Multiple Man, and though I was puzzled because I remember him being a good guy, I also remember him being charming, which I felt the movie and the actor playing him brought across in a few short scenes. So thumbs up.

You know, after reading all your posts, I can’t decide whether I liked it or not. A lot of people are describing its flaws in a very persuasive way, but I left the theatre feeling glad I had seen it. So…huh. Maybe I should have an X-Men marathon to put this last movie in perspective.

Let me guess, you’re not 14.

Just out of curiosity, had you seen either of the first two movies? If so, then you really have no one but yourself to blame for any jarring that went on because you knew going in the science was all bullshit.

If you want the in-comics explanations for the powers of Pyro and Storm, follow the links. Pretty much they’re psionic in nature. As for Wolverine, his mutation is not his adamantium claws. His mutation is a healing factor. He also has certain animalistic features, such as sharp teeth and slightly pronounced canines, and retractable claws made of bone. His healing factor allowed for metal to be bonded to his skeleton without rejection, including allowing for his bone claws to be encased in it.

A number of characters in the comics have used an “image inducer.” Nightcrawler used one for years after he was intriduced, until someone figured out that he was pretty much using it like an additional power. It was introduced long before Forge, although he may have built them as well.

As for why McCoy may have used one in the second movie and not the third (and we don’t know that he used one in the second movie as we don’t know when he manifested his blue furred form in the movie continuity; he could have undergone additional mutation between the two films), one fanwank explanation is that as anti-mutant sentiment increased he may have felt compelled to reveal his true face instead of continuing to pass.

Oops.

There was someone with purple hair who was with the porcupine guy and the other chick. She was on of the ones who through Warren II off the building. I’m wondering where was Siryn? She was in the second movie and in the credits for this one but I don’t remember hearing a sonic scream.

She could’ve been in the professor’s class, or at the funeral.

A couple of quick things. Angel’s wings are strong enough to kill a man with one blow. I remember way back Angel threatening some guy with the a goose could break a man’s arm tale, imagine what I can do…he’s not a weak character, I think if you add the “bird’s vision”, reflexes, speed, etc you have a pretty tough character…Goose

Second why is everyone sure Scott is dead? It seems to be just as likely Jean drained him of his powers to re-engerize herself, put him in a cocoon and tossed him the lake. Unless I missed something.

You’d think that, wouldn’t you? But if you think further , they could’ve made Angel a fierce one.

Did you see how he casually popped his restraints at the beginning of the movie? How robust his wings look? He’s obviously gotta have some uncanny torso muscles as well as bones if he’s to fly (even in movieland physics). He brushed two men aside effortlessly at one point I recall.

No, I can imagine angel harnessing freefall momentum for some hard hitting punches. I can also see him knocking people over just by flapping his wings hard in their direction. And he could’ve used his wings as weapons, protection, distraction…They could’ve made it work. It could’ve been just as impressive as the teleporter in x-men 2 (forgot his name temporarily).

And maybe now, you can see it too. Can you?

It gets better. Over the last several months, there was a video passing around the internet named that.

It used footage from amulti-parter from the old (early-mid '90’s) 20th Century Fox cartoon, and was redubbed with a couple (black?) guys talking in purposefully over-the-top “gangsta” slang. This included Black Tom Cassidy acting like a pimp, and repeating sayings of

“Don’t you know who I am? I’m the Juggernaut, Bitch! You cannot harm me!”

I LOVED the shout-out to this hilarious video.

Psylocke was the young Asian girl with purple hair, who was hanging out with Callisto (tattooed mutant-sensing girl), Arclight (androgynous, exotic-looking girl), and Quill (spiky-faced Asian guy). I like Psylocke too, and was disappointed she didn’t have much to do.

Iceman icing up into his icy form was one of my favorite moments, but I’ve been an Iceman fan ever since growing up watching Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends on Saturday morning.

I liked Kitty (but would have preferred a spunkier, chattier, more Joss Whedonesque heroine), Colossus, Madrox, and especially Juggernaut (who indeed had the best line in the movie), and would have loved to see more of all of them.

Finally, did anyone think that at the end, Wolverine was going to make a speech to Jean about her favorite yellow crayon?

Numerous reports mentioned that Halle Berry held out for a bigger part (“I won an Oscar, you know!”), but from where I was sitting she should have been careful what she asked for. Lots of lines that were hollow, like “I’m ready, but… (DUN DUN DUN) are you?” And of course, Storm has a terribly strong power: weather control! Water, lightning, wind, hail (soccer-ball sized hail! COME ON!) and any combination of those. Working with Iceman they could freeze most of the bad mutants in a block of ice! And what do we see her do?

First, she utterly fails to clear the mist around Lake Alkali, even though it is demonstrated earlier that she unconsciously manipulates the weather. Logan actually has to say something like “You’re Storm, and you can manipulate weather. Can you, perhaps, clear this mist?” and she says something competely stupid like “I can fix that.” Oh Really?! And don’t get me started on her other big demonstration of her powers: she made fog in San Francisco. That’s right – fog in San Francisco. I bet in the next movie she makes sure it’s sunny and seventy degrees in Los Angeles. Or maybe drizzling in Seattle.

Okay, so I’ve been anti-Halle since she botched Joss Whedon’s “toad-hit-by-lightning” line in the first film. That doesn’t mean she didn’t completely Jar-Jar this one! Put me down for Prince head-butting her in the face next time.

Finally saw it last night, and I loved it. I love all of these movies (Batman, Spiderman, etc.), and I don’t give a crap about the science or plot holes or continuity. I think they do a decent enough job of representing the various mythologies, given the limitations of the genre. Mostly, though, they just entertain the hell out of me. Plus, my favorite two X-Men have always been Wolverine and The Beast, so I was happy as hell to see them played up in this movie – though I didn’t know that Kelsey Grammer was going to be Beast until I heard his voice! Excellent!

I didn’t see some of the trailers that were mentioned here (no Superman Returns or Snakes on a Plane), but I did see a trailer for Ghost Rider, which looks cool as hell! I never read that comic (I hadn’t even heard of it until seeing the trailer, and my friend filled me in), but now I’m really looking forward to that one.

Oh, and I’m 34.

My wife had the same response. Actually, she had two comments: Where is the yellow crayon, and why are Logen’s pants disintegration-proof?

Siryn was the redheaded girl who was crying at the funeral. I THINK she was in Xavier’s class with Jubilee and Kitty.

Gozu and holmes, you make some good points about Angel’s abilities. Let me reword: I couldn’t see him being effective against, say, Magneto, but I’ll agree that he could have been useful in the big fight (though clearly in the movie he wasn’t ready for that).

I was also happy to see Multiple, since he’s a longtime favorite.

Just because she unconsciously manipulates the weather sometimes doesn’t mean that she does so constantly.

Wolverine says “I can’t see a thing.” If you want to make a case against Storm, you might do so using the actual events as they happen.

The situation required cover so she created cover. As for other displays of power, she fried several people wth lightning bolts.

A bad line reading of a terrible line.

Well…
1015 seconds? Seemed more like 10-15 seconds to me.

And that wasn’t a nurse. Her name was given earlier as Dr. Moira McTaggert.
Just not back. Not a bad movie and I can’t believe they won’t at least try for a X-Men 4. After all, you don’t have to have everyone around and they could always reboot if needed. I think a movie involving any one of the following would be great:

Sentinels
Omega Red
Apocalypse

Given that it’s making money hand over first, I think we are just about guaranteed an X-Men 4.

A question that just now occurred to me, and I was wondering if anyone had a plausible answer: why were there three diffirent actresses playing Kitty, one for each film?

Well, in the first movie she was on-screen for all of 10 seconds. This movie she actually had a part. They needed someone who could really act. More than likely, hte other two actresses either grew too up too fast to play the part, had retired from the business, or just weren’t up to snuff.

Kitty #1 - Sumela Kay. Some decent credits, but doesn’t really look the part to me.

Kitty #2 - Katie Stuart. Even better credits, though. Hmmmm, sounds like someone needs a new agent.

I guess because the character wasn’t important enough to warrant having the same actress three times.

Shouldn’t we assume that he’s been “cured”? I mean after he pulled himself together (har!) at the campsite, he was basically one mutant surrounded by all those soldiers with vaccine guns.
