Yeah, well, just you try leaving him out there till the 8th round. I think I might have to take him then.

There’s no way he leapfrogs LT, especially with Vermeil gone. He’ll probably be in the top 5, but it’s still Alexander and LT as #1 and #1a.

The “?” was a fuckup where I drafted Gates. Later in the Round someone drafted Ricky Williams, who was supposed to be my keeper (originally in the 15th round, 13 rounder used up this year to keep, 11th when I keep him next), so I’m not really sure of the best way to adjust the rounds. Aside from Williams, I’ll definitely be doing a rarity and keeping Chicago’s defense with a 12th rounder. Caddy was good, but I don’t think worth a first rounder unless maybe I opted to forego the opportunity at the 4th pick and use the 14th, but twould be a major stretch. Willing to take offers for the 4th spot to trade down (or up even).

Hey, I know we’re all adversaries here, but I think we’re friendly ones, and as I said before, a lot of things can change between now and next year. I do value the opinions of the NFL geeks on these boards. That being said, would anyone care to offer an opinion on Droughns? (Suggestions like trade him for Art Schleister will be ignored. :D)

He’s clearly the starting running back for Cleveland next year, so that’s a plus. He gained 1200+ yards in both seasons he’s been a feature back with two different teams.

The problem is the fact that he only managed 2 touches, but then again the entire Cleveland team only scored 4 rushing touchdowns all season. Will that trend continue? I highly doubt it.

Crennel, being a defensive guy, will certainly work out the kinks in his ground game. I’d hold off judgement until after the draft and free agency and see what direction they go in. If they draft a QB, then look for a lot more focus to fall on the legs of Droughns. Also look for them to focus on picking up defensive guys or offensive guards or a center. If they pick up offensive tackles – particularly a left tackle – or skill positions on offense, that may not bode well for his fantasy numbers.

The biggest thing going for him in fantasy is that he caught 39 passes for 369 yards, bolstering his fantasy yards to 1601, which is a cool 160 fantasy points. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

Just for reference, pro-football-reference.com lists him as the 14th ranked fantasy running back. (Sounds about right.) So I’d place him as either a decent #2 back, or a great W/R option.

I’d take him in the third and consider it a bargain, but might sweat a little taking him in the second. If the team looks to be building around the ground game, (as I have to assume they will), then I’d be happy taking him in the middle of the second.

I see you will be picking in the exact center of the second round. (1700 yards? Are you sure about that?) While it wouldn’t exactly be a huge bargain, it won’t be that much of a reach, either.

Do we have to declare keepers before the draft and stick with them? Because I’d recommend you keep him unless a better back falls to you in the second. Not sure if we’re cool with that as a league, but I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it.

What do you mean by 14th? By my reckoning, you’ll pick 4th and…uh…25th. Or did you have a trade with Mundi in mind?

I’m currently thinking that Tiki is no 3rd overall pick, but damn if getting the second most yards from scrimage in the history of the NFL isn’t scaring me. I might consider a swap with you (2nd overall for 4th overall), but am unsure what a reasonable compensation package might be. Let’s see, Tomlinson and Alexander have to be the top two, so the question is would somebody value Tiki above Peyton Manning and Larry Johnson? Probably not with Brandon Jacobs on the team, so I guess I should feel pretty secure about it.

Would you be interested in swapping first rounders to get the Tomlinson/Alexander sloppy seconds, and in return send me your 5th rounder (top of the round) in exchange for my 6th rounder (bottom of the 6th)?

One point of note for fantasy in general: don’t get mesmorized by the fact that Larry Johnson “only started 9 games”. He rushed 336 times…that’s a full season of rushing for a guy who started all 16 games. Don’t get me wrong; he was indeed awesome, averaging over 5 yards a carry and scoring 20 touchdowns. But really he should be considered as a guy who started the entire season just by sheer volume of carries.

I just realized that you swapping with me does very little for you, in that I’m definitely taking Tiki regardless, so you really only have 2 guys ahead of you. Basically, if you trade with me, you get Tomlinson, and if you don’t, you get Larry Johnson. Both sound pretty good to me. But still, you might value Ladainian higher than Johnson, so the offer still stands.

One final note: If there is a god, and the Giants win it all, Tiki is retiring. In such a case I will be looking to trade down out of the first round altogether, so everyone should keep that in mind. What am I going to do, draft Curtis Martin with the second overall pick?! I’m not that crazy; he’s no better than a third rounder on my board. I’d be looking for at least a second and a third in return, and possibly even a fourth. Just imagining Boom (who is that?) making that trade and drafting both Tomlinson and Alexander sets off my competitive balance alarm, so I might think a second, third, fourth and a fifth in that case would be reasonable.

Damn I love the concept of fantasy drafting, and agree that a live draft is mandatory. Considering the trading thoughts I’ve shared here, it is conceivable we may run into competitive balance issues, so we may want to institute some form of veto system like yahoo uses to make sure nobody reaps the benefit of a parity-busting trade.

Mostly I’m thinking this would apply to me, as my unorthodox approach places non-standard values on draft picks for me. For example, there is no difference in the first four overall picks from my point of view. (I may be the only FF player in the world who can say that.)

Damn I’m chatty this morning.

Hey, aren’t you suspended? :stuck_out_tongue:

Those are my exact thoughts, hence my questions here.

I was counting his return yards. We do get points for those too, don’t we?

Unless he gets hit by a meteor, Johnson is off the boards. He’s my 7th round pick.

Not really. Certainly not at 10 yards a point. (I think it’s the same as passing; 30 yards per point.)

Oh crap, I forgot you’re keeping him.

Hmmm…is there a consensus 3rd overall pick? Peyton?

I have been woefully absent from the league this year, with very little smack talk (Of course I didn’t have much of a team to smack talk about, but that’s never stopped me before), few moves, and some very poor decision making. However, now that the season is over, I’ll offer a few tidbits to chew on over the next half a year while I eagerly wait for next year’s draft. Overall, it was a great league to be in, because it was so competetive. When you have 6 teams with identical records (8-6) fighting for 2 playoff spots, you know it’s a tight league. of course, I wasn’t one of those teams, but I’m sure for the rest of you it was fun.

It’ll probably be easiest to go team by team. And greater minds than mine can dissect the keeper potential for each team.

Your He Hate Me Again Championship team: Mundi’s Morning Blues.

I really have to give this team Kudos, especially considering, IIRC, that he drafted last. To win it all from the last drafting position is very impressive indeed. I complimented them on their great draft, and they didn’t let me down at all. One name jumps out at me: Santana Moss (#3 wr in the 8th round). Great pick that helped carry this team. All in all, a solid team that week in and week out won the games they needed to get to the playoffs. Picking up Mike Anderson and a huge game by Moss gave this team the boost it needed to win it all. Congrats.

Cedric Benson’s Busts

Almost the opposite of Mundi, this team is living proof of the stud runningback theory. Two words sum up this team: Shaun Alexander. From week one to the playoffs, it’s been Alexander who decides how this team does. Luckily, he got a bit of help from Thomas Jones, who surprised me by having a nice little year, and Chad Johnson, who was a stud. My post draft analysis was spot on, a couple of studs and some poor choices in the middle rounds, but a couple of studs can carry you. At least to second place. Well Done.

Fourth and Nineteen

Like Cedric, this team was a one man wrecking crew, with LT carrying it to a great 8-1 start. But, as LT went this team went, and a late season rough patch spelt third place rather than first. Great choices though in getting Samkon Gado and A.Smith/J. Wells to help in spots gave a boost when LT faultered. A good season that relied, even more than the Busts, on one player. Nice.

VarlossZZZZZZ

The curse of the number one seed. I raved about this team in the post draft analysis, with good reason. Edge, Holt, Hasselback, and good backups let this team light it up during the regular season. I was right to praise them, and I even predicted McGahee’s drop in numbers. However, as life works out, the playoffs are a different story. Edge and Holt were huge letdowns in the first round of the playoffs, and big games by Troupe, Housh… and the Panthers D by his opponent spelled disaster. And with his players just phoning it in for the last games of the season, he finished a disappointing 4th. A great team, with a great draft and great players, gets bitchslapped when the chips are down. A great season, with a disappointing end.

Ellis Dee

Here’s what I said in the post draft anaylsis: “Although I said it last year and was dead wrong, I’ll say it again… Tiki is not a first round draft pick.” I would like a bit of Bernaise sauce for my crow now. Tiki was a bona fide, grade A stud this year. Eli provided some nice points when needed too. But this team ran with Tiki. However, dumping Lamont Jordan for Plax and Porter was the boneheaded trade of the year. That, and the bye week, made sure that Tiki’s studly year went to waste. A good season overall, and, hell, he stomped me, so I guess I shouldn’t talk.

Boom Goes the Dynamite

A solid team that may not blow you away, but will be in the hunt all year. Sound familiar? That was my analysis of this team. They got off to a great 7-1 start, but then all hell broke lose and they lost 5 of the last 7. What happened here? Well, Priest gets injured. They trade away stud Larry Johnson. Westbrook gets injured. And their season is over. Carson Palmer is the real deal, and a great draft job getting him in the 10th round, but the injuries and a weak ass WR corp cost this team dearly. Injuries are a bitch.

Rhinosaurs

This is a sloppy gelatin team… they just never jelled. Over the season, they had solid players in Portis, Brees, J. Jones, M. Anderson, but a weak WR corp made them desperate and Jones’ 5 week hiatus cost this team dearly. I’m still not sure what to make of this team, because they got some breaks by inching out victories, but I’m not really sure why they didn’t do better. A conundrum.

Clusterfucks

The first two weeks of the season, this team was a force. Cadillac was a rookie with a bright future, Deuce was doing well, T.O. was a stud. The future was bright. Now, go to the end of the season. Deuce - injured. TO - idiot. Cadillac - finally starting to come back. Season over. Bad luck hit this team hard, but drafting Deuce, TO and a rookie rb in the first 3 rounds, this team took a risk. It just didn’t work out this year.

Crabby Hermits

Finished the season 7-7, which is average. I had rated the draft as … average. The players put up points that were … average. I think you know where I’m going with this. No studs emerged from the draft. Dillon, Brown, Bledsoe, Lelie were all horribly average. Not a stud in the bunch. And injures to D. Jackson, Dillon, Bulger, and Bruce didn’t help much. But in the world of fantasy football, injuries are… average.

Feed My Family

Another team I was wrong about. T. Green and J. Lewis were not studs. Boldin and Galloway did just fine. J. Lewis could be the bust of the year, which hurt this team immensely. What also hurt were a few heartbreaking losses. Losing by 1.3 points to start the season, and 3.1 to end the season will leave a psychological mark. Painful. Picking J. Lewis after his prison sentence and not getting a #2 rb really hurt this team. I’m glad I’m not them…

Moridwon

…Because I’m me. I have 3 words for this fantasy, and as a Packer fan for regular, football. Brett Favre…retire. Now that that is out of the way, immediately after the draft, I was happy with my team. Looking back now, I must point out that upside is horribly overrated. R. Brown, K. Jones, R. Moss, M. Vick, C. Rodgers, T. Williamson, the list goes on and on. None of the players I liked at the beginning actually emerged as a solid, let alone a stud, player. Now, either that means I got unlucky, or, and much more likely, I suck at predictions. Most likely the latter.

Baltimore Weirdos

My heart goes out to this team. Starting the season with 4 straight loses (thanks in large part to Culpepper being a bust), ending the season with 3 straight losses to high scoring teams, as well as losing some tough games, makes one weep. But having Larry Johnson can soothe some of those wounds. What a great pickup that was. This team had a rollercoaster of a season, and it started and ended badly. I wasn’t impressed with the draft, but nobody deserves that kind of season. Well, maybe Weirddave does, but nobody else.

Fighting Quakers

Another team where the risks just didn’t pay off. Eight straight losses to end the season will leave a bad taste in the mouth all year. Injuries, of course, played a huge part, with A. Green and McNabb, his first two picks, going down for the year. But this team didn’t break 100 all season long, despite having the #1 and #2 top scoring WR of the year. I guess that’s why they don’t have a stud wr theory floating around fantasy football.

Pentium None

The only team to not score above 1000 for the season… yes, they are that bad. However, ending the season with two straight wins will hopefully give them momentum into next year. Peyton Manning was the #3 Qb on the season, but wasn’t a stud enough to help this team. A poor draft doomed this team from the beginning.

So there are some thoughts from an idiot. I’m looking forward to next year, when I plan on putting together a great team and to being more involved in the league. Enjoy the offseason all, it was a pleasure playing (and getting beat by most of you).

Feel free to note any mistakes I’ve made. Once everyone’s rosters have been posted, I’m going to wrap them all together into a single post for easy reference for next year.

The trade info is part guessing and part memory. I don’t think Dave traded for Kyle Boller, for example, but I could be wrong. Also, the trade of Kerry Collins plus Larry Johnson for Lamont Jordan seems stupendously lopsided. Did Collins hit the waiver wire? If he was part of that package, I’m not feeling so bad about my Lamont for Plaxico trade. hehheh.

In re-reading the earlier posts in this thread, I note that we did not allow keeping anyone from the first three rounds, so I’ll make that correction to the ones I’ve already done when I repost all the rosters.

Also, I’d forgotten the 16th draft round after the live draft. (What was that about, anyway?) That, plus the drafting errors where people accidently took other owners’ keepers really does make the whole thing a bit of a – clusterfuck. hehheh.

Anyway, the final repost will also contain the rules culled from the earlier portion of the thread. I already miss fantasy football; imagine how crazy I’m going to go after the Superbowl, when there will be no football at all!

I can draft 4th if I want to, but as I recall I can draft in any position I want assuming it wasn’t chosen by one of the other guys. So if you think, say, Tiki stands no chance at being picked before the 5th spot, you can chose to draft 5th (unless the one person picking before you chooses to draft 5th) and get the higher choice in the second round. I was saying if I thought Caddy was worth, say, the 8th spot, I could just choose to draft last in the first and get to go first in the 2nd.

I would be willing to make that trade if you’re still interested.

Wierd, the thread wasn’t bumped when I made the post. Let’s see…

Um, as far as I recall this is a figment of your imagination. You draft in the spot that was perscribed by your finish. You don’t get to draft draft spots.

Possible, I often pass off things I make up as reality.

Uh, thanks, I’m flattered.

Hamlet, loved the recap. Next year I’ll try and get myself a backup QB and knock Mundi off his pedestal.

This comment inspired me to write this post in the Playoffs thread over in IMHO. Like to hear your thoughts.
