I’ve used Yahoo Mail for a long time, so I get a lot of spam. I have it set to automatically shunt suspect messages into my spam folder, and to empty that folder once a month. But I check it every day just in case an authentic message slips in.
But I’ve noticed that I tend to get heavy spam only on certain days, usually toward the end of the week. Yesterday I got all of 10 spam emails. Whereas today I had 500 before 9:00, and they’re still coming at a steady rate.
Is that happening because of Yahoo, my settings, or the intricacies of the spam-osphere?
Hmm. I’ve used Yahoo Mail for years and if I get 5 spam emails a day, that’s a lot.
I use Yahoo email too, and if I get 5 spams in a month, it’s a lot.
I’ve had my Yahoo address for over ten years, and it’s on the web in multiple places. So I’m not surprised it gets a lot of spam hits. I just don’t understand why they all happen on Wednesday or Thursday.
Who knows. I analyze the spam at my company and have never seen this pattern. I think on a long enough timeline there’s no real pattern. Just various con men and their botnets spamming the crap out of everyone.
Most likely its yahoo engineers playing with different spam rules. No one likes making changes on friday, so they dont get called in on over the weekend. That could explain tweaking the rules/blacklists/whatever in the middle of the week.
