I have been using Yahoo! Mail for years, and it is very effective at stopping spam. Most spam, I would say 90% or more, gets filtered into a bulk mail folder where I can easily delete it without even looking at it. Sounds great, right?
Well, I recently encountered a problem. I set up a filter in my account to forward messages to my mobile phone. I set it up so that any message which contains my address in the “To:” field will be forwarded. I thought this would be the most logical way to do it. The problem is, now all of the spam that is addressed to me, spam that would usually be filtered into the bulk mail folder, is back in my inbox and coming to my mobile. It is extremely annoying. I would like the spam filters to take priority over my mobile filter, but there does not seem to be a setting for that.
Thus, I would like to know if there is a way to avoid all of this. I have tried contacting Yahoo! directly about it twice, but I just received responses that did not even come close to addressing my question. (I found that a little irritating since I am actually paying for my account.) I am sure that I am not the only person who has noticed this problem, so maybe someone else out there has come up with a solution. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
P.S. Perhaps I should mention that I also thought of editing my mobile filter so that only messages that contain my name in the body text would be forwarded. While I know that would stop the spam, it would also cause me to miss a lot of important messages, so I think this is not really an option. The main reason I forward the messages is that I am running a small part time business, and it is important for me to know quickly when I receive mail from a new customer so I can reply as soon as possible. However, most messages I receive from new customers do not contain my name.
