Y'all hate me...but you know I'm right

I’m not exactly talking in riddles here so I really have no idea what you mean.

LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man has been arrested after authorities say he sent an email threatening to kill U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
Authorities say Craig Shaver of Lancaster sent a Sept. 30 email to the senator. Other details weren’t disclosed. …
Feinstein is the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. She has received threats and abuse because some Republicans accuse her of trying to thwart the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

You know, that kind of thing always makes me scratch my head. I’m no professional hitman, and I’ve probably never even killed someone. But if I intended to do it, I believe that a warning letter might remove some of the element of surprise. I mean, it would really dampen your odds of even having the opportunity to give it a go. Kids today. Argle bargle.

Here’s what I’m talking about:

Basically, a lot of white men are sticking with Trump because “he gets the job done.” I saw this shit with George W Bush in his first term. “I don’t always agree with him, but he’s tough and he gets stuff done.” To a lot of Americans, looking presidential is equated with being a dickhead, even if it means being a complete imbecile. The average voter has now idea how the economy works or how their own government works.

The Dems will probably take the House, but not by much, and they’re screwed in 2020. They’re not going to be able to unite behind a single candidate, as the far left faction battles with the moderates. Trump will get re-elected, but the worst of it is that this increases the chances that Mike Pence could become president, opening the door for an American theocracy that suppresses free thought and builds a fortress around the oligarchy.

So what are you doing to change the opinion of those white men?

There’s nothing I can do to change their opinion.

Wait a minute, you honestly think Americans will re-elect The Donald?

Absolutely

If you believe that, then you’re explicitly acknowledging that America as a nation is too stupid to be capable of self-governance. I’m pretty pessimistic about a lot of political trends, but I’m not THAT pessimistic! In fact I’m not convinced that he’s going to last the full term.

But you know, one of the things that the amazing Trump presidency has done is completely changed my attitude toward the Office of the President. I remember during Obama’s inauguration, which I followed very closely, feeling a sense of trepidation about the big change; GWB had been a terrible president, but somehow the country had survived, and now this new man was taking onto his own shoulders this awesome responsibility. The transition was an awesome, solemn moment of great change.

No more do I think anyone will have such feelings. The nation’s highest office has been turned, not so much into an afternoon TV soap opera, as into a children’s cartoon. The way I feel now is that my dog could be a highly successful US president, and certainly far superior to the present one. At least he wouldn’t be actively malignant.

I think Americans are capable of self-governance, but we need to reinvent our nation. People don’t reinvent themselves unless they believe there’s a need to do so, like when they voted for FDR in 1932.
