That would be a terrible thing.
Ok, just checking.
I did, and it’s deeply troubling and MUST be remedied. But it’s one example, out in time for those more motivated (who would be more likely to vote) to reregister. There’s genuine outcry, evidence of wrongdoing, and lawyers on the right side are involved. Our political system is a bit ragged but isn’t shredded into bits and tatters on the floor just yet.
As much as I’m unhappy with much of Kavanaugh’s possible past (lets face it, as credible as I think Dr. Ford was and the existing evidence is, there is no real proof). My problem is WHY he was chosen. He doesn’t believe that a sitting president should or could be indited.
That is IMHO, why trump picked him.
So what do we do if solid evidence comes out from Mueller, and the Senate won’t impeach? AND trump can’t be indited under the rule of law and it goes to SCOTUS (thought I don’t think it would, not sure).
THAT’s the reason I don’t want Kavanaugh As much as I don’t like him other wise vis-a-ve Row, and he seems quite the scum.
This is all true, but not something voters can do with their franchise as such. All they can do with that is vote, n’est-ce pas?
When this ends as all things must, I heartily recommend making those standards into legal requirements. I’d see to it that Supreme Court nominations fail closed as well, so that the nominee is automatically confirmed if the Legislative Branch refuses to acknowledge that nominee’s nomination; McConnell’s shenanigans aren’t at all cricket.
Of course. Even though Trump did nothing wrong and Mueller’s investigation is an UNFAIR WITCH HUNT!!
If there’s solid evidence the Republicans choose to blatantly ignore? Take to the streets. The Republicans will have well and truly killed your democracy at that point.
Asahi, I think you’re right, but in a Der Trihs kind of way. At the core of what you say, there is truth. But on the top and all over is wild flourish and extremity. But I’m waiting to see how the misterm elections pan out. If they are a whimper, and America truly doesn’t give a shit, then I’ll think that you probably have the correct outlook. Except for the reeducation camps. That’s just fucked up.
I’m going to go further than Paul Krugman: Trump is not the real danger here. Trump is dangerous because he’s a populist, and he’s the kind of battering ram that can open the castle doors. But it’s the Christian warriors who are the ones to fear. If they get their hands on the steering wheel, they will end democracy as we know it, and do so in the name of God. And they would gladly create a police force and murder their opponents to impose their will on the rest of us.
People think, “Oh that’s crazy talk - it can’t get to that point. Surely me and my huntin’ buddies would step in and fight back if we were under a fascist regime.”
Um, nope, they wouldn’t. When thugs acting in the name of God and the law show up and drag someone away in the middle of the night, people know what happened; they’re just too afraid to let their mind go there, let alone talk about it. I know how this shit works. I’ve spent time in countries where saying the wrong thing to the wrong person means surprise visits and shit kickings from government goons. All the rednecks who think that the 2nd amendment would save them have no fucking clue what they’re talking about. Some of the most oppressive places on earth are some of the most heavily armed.
But more to the point, all the conservatives reading this, chuckling to themselves, believing that it’s just liberals who have something to fear are seriously deluded. Authoritarians don’t do ideology; they exploit it. In the end, though, an enemy is anyone - anyone - who dares to challenge them. Where are all the corporations and free trade lobbyists who supported Trump during the election? They’re shutting the fuck up, afraid that Trump might torch them - that’s where. Harley Davidson, Ford, Dollar Tree…I can’t imagine that they like Bernie Sanders or even Hillary Clinton. They don’t dare criticize Trump directly. They know Trump is not a conservative; he’s an authoritarian. What about fellow Republican senators like Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, and others who voted with Trump 90% of the time but dared to grow a pair and criticize him once? Yep, they’re toast, too. That’s a glimpse into how all of this works. It goes downhill rapidly thereafter.
So asahi, what do you think is the next likely step towards fascism the US will take? Give us a couple things so you have a nice “I told you so” next year. I mean, you’re a prognosticator but you haven’t even made a guess in the Mid-terms election contest thread.
If you think asahi’s comments are tiresome, your snark is even more tiresome and, unlike his comments, completely pointless.
Asahi, I think you’re right. Sometimes you go over the top, but it does get attention.
But I wish you’d stop with the “you know I’m right” bit. I keep flashing back to the 1964 election, with Goldwater’s slogan – “In your heart, you know he’s right.”
A quick google led to Team Johnson’s comeback – “in your guts, you know he’s nuts.”
You vote in a different President and Senate. You amend the Constitution to allow an indictment (if you acyually think that’s a good idea). If these issues are as important, and your views on them as widely shared, as you think, it will be easy to acheive this.
Otherwise, you perhaps need to reflect on the nature of democracy, and of a republic.
Yeah, you’re right.
Within the next 10-20 years, the USA will clearly no longer be a democracy that anyone from the outside would recognize. Like most modern authoritarian states, the ruling party will claim that it is a democracy, but legitimate elections basically will not exist.
Y’know what gets to me about this? I can’t tell the difference between the people who are legitimately looking forward to that future and the people who are actually too dumb to see the pattern because it’s their party that’s doing it. I feel like in any given discussion, half of them are cryptofascists - there is no other way to explain so many people being so blind to what’s going on.
I think I need to leave. American politics makes me grieve for the future.
This.
But don’t get depressed or give in to despair.
Get ANGRY.
Toss a few dollars to the candidates of your choice.
And vote the bastards out. Or at least do your part with your vote.
“Angry gets shit done” - Anansi, “American Gods”
Let’s see…
Lock her up
Charlottesville nazis
Bannon, Miller, Gorka
Pence, Roy Moore, the “American Taliban” of the “religious right”
Concentration camps and sexual abuse now of “undocumented” children
Trump’s threats to get even with the “enemy of the people” fake news
WHO are the fucking fascists again???
Almost … WHO loves to threaten “second amendment solutions” and “violence” whenever they don’t get their way???
So one more time, who’s the fucking fascists???
Pack the court and then change the rules to make it impossible for a future Senate to pack the court.
Still on the subject of fascists…

LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man has been arrested after authorities say he sent an email threatening to kill U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
Authorities say Craig Shaver of Lancaster sent a Sept. 30 email to the senator. Other details weren’t disclosed. …
Feinstein is the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. She has received threats and abuse because some Republicans accuse her of trying to thwart the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
and a more visual, graphic of which side has the fascists (Nazis, actually):

at Charlottesville.
If I wanted to say that, I would have. You, for example, are quite tiresome. I am asking asahi to back up a consistent brag: his/her awesome prediction skills.
