Y'all PLEASE Find A Way To Make This Work!

There’s also a discussion going on at the SDMB Live Journal community.

Make that SDMB’s, not SADMB’s.

Really?

And who’s in charge of pulling all responses together and presenting them to the people who make the decisions, Muffin?

Please, don’t patronize me, okay?

I realize there are opinions flying around in every thread, but they must make some kinda SENSE, and someone (some people) need to be able to (if necessary) put it all in some kind of order.

Okay, let’s do this, then: If the mods/admins/members feel like I don’t have a case, then suspend me for the duration. I will abide by the wishes of the people in charge.

Deal?

Love you guys!

Q

Quasi, nobody is going to suspend you. Nobody is going to sit down with Ed Zotti and sing Kumbaya. Ed doesn’t care what anybody thinks, doesn’t care who leaves, and isn’t going to change his mind. Nothing is going on here that you can fix.

Oak,

I have to try. Y’all are all I’ve got when I’m not working, and I need to know that things can be worked out!

Again, this is the Flagship of all message boards. What a sorry state of affairs it would be if we cannot reach some kind of compromise.

This is world-wide, dammit! It is an opportunity to show that even on the friggin’ internet, we can work through our DIFFERENCES!

Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who realizes this?

My offer stands: If I don’t have a case, kick my German ass out and I’ll sit on the sidelines.

Quasimodem, regardless of what else is going on, you’re not getting suspended.

No one needs to pull the responses together and present them because the people who make the decisions are already reading the posts.

This has all happened before. This will all happen again.

Gotta love Battle Star Galactica, I can make it fit anywhere.

Can anyone sum up whats going on since I apparently have missed everything? I stick almost exclusively to Cafe Society anymore. MPSIMS and IMHO occasionally, GQ rarely. GD and BBQ even rarer. So, I am all out of the loop on whats going on.
Also, if people need to meet in Chicago, I can provide some room and board for members free of charge. But you better love BSG or we aren’t going to have any fun.

Marley,

I’m not trying to get suspended, my friend.

I’m just trying to state my opinions, and I’m thinking I’m being tolerated when that is not what I want.

This place has become my life-line and I hate to see it threatened.

I just think we can all sit down and air our grievances and desires and get on with being the world’s number one message board.

Yes, I understand that the problem originated with the Pit, but it’s affecting all sections of SDMB when people are talking about leaving, forming their own boards or whatever.

When I get off my weekend shift, there are 2 things I look forward to these days:

  1. SDMB

  2. WoW

And the two are interrelated because of the WoW thread.

It’s pretty much all I have right now, Marley, and I’d like to protect it if I can.

I’m not the arrogant sonofabitch I used to be.

I’m the sonofabitch who’s scared he might forget who he is, and this place helps me remember.

I’m just a bit passionate about my life-line, I reckon.

Zotti talked to a burning bush, and gave us new Demandments nobody likes for The Pit . He then says love it or leave. And he screwed up his very first attempt to enforce the new Demandments.

ROUFLAMOU

Thanks for the laugh, Buddy!

Ed is making an honest effort at trying to lessen offensive conduct in The Pit.

To do this, he has made some new rules, including one that says that creative insults are welcome but abusive remarks directed at another poster are not allowed.

Some folks are scratcing their heads wondering what the difference is between being insulting and being abusive. Many posts have been made asking for clarification of what insults would be permitted and what insults would be considered abusive, but for the most part answers not been forthcoming, and so far enforcement has been inconsistent.

Some folks are scratching their balls wondering what the purpose of The Pit is if you can’t be offensive, noting that offensive insults can be appropriate in certain circumstances, and noting that taking the offence out of The Pit destroys the nature of The Pit by turning into a whining MPSIMS.

To get a better handle on all the various positions, you had best read Ed’s Pit Rules Have Been Revised thread in ATMB.

I think so too, and many people are. There’s plenty of other stuff going on that isn’t exactly productive and there’s lots of frustration from everybody, but that won’t last forever either.

I almost felt embarassed for him. Almost.

I’m overdue in Alekstrasia (tryin’ to level up to 15 tonight), but I just wanted everyone to know that I love being a part of this board, I love how we all reach out to each other when we need it, and I would like to see it continue to set an example to all others.

Whatever it takes, chirrun. Whatever it takes.

I just don’t wanna sign on to my computer one day and have it tell me it can’t find y’all.

I hope everyone will do what’s right, and I am right here with my contribution to help that cause along.

I love y’all

Bill

Ah, my apologies then. I thought you were concerned about MPSIMS changing.

As for the Pit, it has been changing for the past several months since Ed started moderating there. He has made random and capricious rules while moderating for the past several months. I’ve already commented there several times about how it was turning into MPSIMS2 weeks ago, if not months ago. This recent action is just the codification of the random and arbitrary rules that have already been instituted. Will it change the membership? To an extent, I think it already has. Is that a good thing? Only time will tell. From my perspective, it’s not looking good. I’ve been noticing the changes for a while now.

Can anything be done about it? From my viewpoint, most of the damage has already been done. Giraffe and fluiddruid have already stepped down. Confidence in the fairness of moderation has already been lost. Can it be gained back? Like all relationships, trust broken takes a long time to re-establish.

This sounds all so melodramatic. It is, after all, just a message board. But yes, I’ve been feeling the loss of my old stomping grounds lately.

But what percentage of people quitting or being banned WOULD matter to Ed? There has to be a certain point where even he would take notice, isn’t there?

I can’t agree more. I won’t be leaving. Since I’ve been in Iraq I’m kind of a captive audience. I don’t have many ways to entertain myself. Once I get home in a few months my visits are going to become rare.

Ed said that a drop off of 2,000,000 hits will mean $200 less coming in. He didn’t seem too concerned.

**Quasi **- we haven’t ‘met’ before, but I just want to say that I always look out for your posts. The Dope is a lifeline for me, too. It’s people like you that make this such an interesting place. It’s also that so many people - like you - care about it that makes it great. I don’t mind about the changes so long as the spirit stays the same.

Linky-poo, please?
