Yes, dammit! I know What's Wrong With That Picture!

I personally don’t care who gets banned for what, but it seems that if things like this are going to start being bannable offenses, that information should be available to all, not just people who happen to read those particular threads that day. What if a person is gone for a few days, misses the brouhaha, then posts?

Just a suggestion. Maybe put it in the FAQ.

Lookin’ out the winder - that’s a bannin’. Lookin’ at my sandals - that’s a bannin’. Paddlin’ the school canoe - you better believe that’s a bannin’…

As the originator of this thread I feel some responsibility for whatever, since the OP wasn’t very clear. I innocently thought that since I had been emailed this link ten gazillion times, most everyone would no what I was talking about and I didn’t want to spread the diseased link by posting it. I suppose the best way to have clarified this would have been to post something like…“Here is the link but be warned it is meant to shock you about 30 seconds in”.

It was actually included in the FAQ in ATMB (until we finalize our official board FAQ) before you posted. One of the problems with the FAQ is that few people read it. We need to find a way to make more people aware of it.

I thought that my previous post explained this. TubaDiva posted that as a warning for the future.

No.

Oh, no, I understood that. I’m just bitchin’ about you jack-booted thugs is all.

( )

In all seriousness, in this instance I see lots of disclaimers before the link was ever posted. I’m glad no one was banned in this case, but I’m mindful of the future.

(Insert standard “it’s not my board, you guys make the rules, yadda yadda yadda” disclaimers. I’m just sayin’s’all…)

I just wanted to let the admins know (well, not like they really care) that they have my full support on this one. I was one of the people to complain originally 'cause I am extremely high strung and easily scared.

It’s not funny. It never was.

LaurAnge, we do care. You  have just been promoted to Esteemed Poster j.g., and Esprix :stuck_out_tongue: has been downgraded to Member, Second Class.
Right thinking is quickly rewarded, and wrong thinking just as quickly punished.

Good timing, Arnold! I was seriously needing a new sig…

OK, that soothes my concern about this. It sounded to me, and apparently others, like qshapadooy was being warned for posting it here. If it was simply a ‘Don’t post this elsewhere’ warning, that’s fine, then. (Not, of course, that my opinion counts.)

I get the corner.

Good idea- I would not imagine many people poke around ATMB if they don’t have specific questions or problems.

Confucius say: I know they don’t, but they should. ATMB should always be your first stop when you visit the SDMB. If there’s no new important announcement threads or nothing new in the FAQ you’ve only wasted a few seconds of your time.

SDMB or Chinese “Re-education” camp? You be the judge! Next Geraldo! :stuck_out_tongue:

Why not include a note of FAQ changes in the ANNOUNCEMENT thread which appears prominently in every forum?

FAQ changes in announcement thread - possible, but right now it looks like only one announcement is visible in the display of the announcement list, and that’s the subject for the latest one put in. The announcement we have showing now is pretty important and I’d hate to “bump it down” just to say “I added something to the FAQ.”

Maybe the oldtimers can remind newbies who ask “What do new people do to fit in?” that they should read the ATMB FAQ? 10Q.

I’m guessing it will be a Chinese “Re-education” camp, as we can already wave around important books of knowledge written by our leader.

Can someone please tell me what YMMV means? I can jsut about figure IANAM to mean “I AM Not A Moderator”, but the only thing I can come up with for YMMV is “Your Mileage May Vary”… which, to me, sounds weird. Of course, if I am correct, that means my brain is finally working fairly correctly again!

Nope, you got it!

YMMV (your mileage may vary) is another way of saying IMHO.

I loved the movie “Lord of the Rings” but YMMV, for example.

And may I be the first to point you to The Jargon Dictionary as a nifty secondary resource? (The first, of course, is to ask us   )

Fenris

YMMV does not equal IMHO. It means ‘This is how it works for me in my locale, it may be different for you wherever you are’.

A synonym is the rarely-seen (except in the alt.folklore.urban newsgroup) TWIAVBP (The World Is A Very Big Place), which means what it says.

IMHO means In My Humble Opinion, and it is used to mark an opinion in a way that is very difficult to misinterpret. Proper use of this abbreviation can head off a flame war.
