But when it comes to the love that the evangelical conservative base has for her, there ain’t no reasoning. As I’ve pointed out, they have confused their faith with some sort of tribal religion, where their god is on their tribe’s side, and exists to elevate them and bring low the tribes that they see as their enemies. Nothing about Palin that clashes with the Christian faith they purport to hold bothers them in the least.
Palin has presented FriarTed and his kind with a straightforward choice: to be Christians, or to be members of a tribal religion. They have chosen.

These are the same people (I include the saintly Friar in here) who got their undies in a wad because Clinton got blown in the oval office, who made that marital issue a national one, who were righteously indignant over the “besmirching” of the White House etc., who denigrated Hillary for standing by her husband (like a good Christian wife should)- but I am left thinking that if Hillary were only a decade younger they’d have voted for her because they’d do her (or not, because they don’t find her fuckable).
Intelligence, diplomatic skills (where o where are Palin’s?), street savvy, leadership–none of these seem to matter. So, you’d do her, eh, Ted? Don’t you want to know a few things? Does she swallow? FriarTed has revealed his depth of Christian values and his sexism: sneer at and condemn any liberal who may make a point regarding political positions; intone the party mantra of “family values” and good christian living to berate those who stray and have naughty sex outside the marriage bed; proclaim that conservatives are above such rude behavior (and whine that you’re ill treated here), but wait! If there’s a woman involved, go ahead and view her as a potential sex partner–that’s ok!
It doesn’t matter that she’ll be a heartbeat away from being Leader of the Free World–nope, she’s a babe and a hot one at that. Perhaps this is the Ultimate Fundie Fantasy–put her in high boots, give her a crop and these guys will be using the cross as a butt plug on her command, just to get some.
Nothing else about her matters: her inexperience, her inability to get along with her peer group, her using her office to score personal points. She’s conservative, she’s fundie, and she’s hot. What an enlightened way to view the other gender–tell me, have noted any of the issues that actually matter? Or is the little head still the boss of you?
I’m sorry I didn’t notice before, but I tend not to pay attention to the conservatives here much. The past week has been an eye opener, for sure. And to think I was actually disturbed for a minute with the name calling–I even asked that some of the more vociferous liberal posters stop. You all deserve all you get and more. I dislike what I’ve seen of Sarah Palin, but I do see her as whole person–governor, wife, mother, citizen. According to this thread, I’m one of the few.
You know, all year long, I was resigned to a Democratic victory this year (whether it was going to be Hillary or Obama who was the nominee). I’ve defended Obama in RL against the “secret Muslim who doesn’t love the Flag” rumor. I voted for Hillary in the primary so that at least “the devil I know” would be President. It wasn’t until Sarah Palin got nominated that I saw a chance for us to win & this election actually became fun for me. And the level of mounting hysterical shrillness on the boards here, but especially in the Pit, is just amazing.
If Obama gets elected, I’ll shrug, hope & pray for his safety, his wisdom, a change from him in some of his more objectionable positions, and I’ll keep an eye on him over the next four years. Heck, if he does a good job & shifts pro-life, I may vote for him for another term.
If McCain gets elected, some of you are gonna kvetch! I’m ready to start a fund to assist the moves to Canada or Europe or wherever for the ones who start threatening to leave the country.

If this were a game show or a reality show, I wouldn’t give a shit who won. But this isn’t fucking entertainment. During the Bush years, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died because this was how people viewed elections. If this is how evangelicals approach our elections, then they have forfeited any moral standing they ever had.
