Because Harris Teeter and Aldi have been out of nanners(and butter flavored cooking spray) since the Suez Debacle began. Also there is a post storm cold front, with the Accuweather April Fool’s Day forecast calling for a low of 30(with a wind chill of 25). Hijack away*

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and N.O.S. for the day. This week we shall have two days of Spring, a day of Spring/Summer, three days of Spring/Fall and then Easter shall be a Spring day. Today shall be pretty much a day of sloth. Not much needs doin’ and I don’t want to do anything. I’m retired. I don’t want to, I don’t have to. You can’t make me. Sup shall be steak, baked N.O.T., sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. YUM!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Thurs and Fri nights, we’re supposed to drop into the &~$%#@* 20s!! But after that, if one wishes to believe the long range forecast, no more freezing temps. We shall see. As soon as I’m confident in that forecast, the plantage of the veggie beds shall begin! And before then, I need to get some chicken wire or other barrier to keep the back yard bunnehs out of my veggies. I know there’s at least one that lives under the deck next to the raised beds.
Plans for today: convenience center and much rakeage. I’ve got 2 full bags of recycling and at least one full trash can before I’ve even gathered what’s accumulated in the house. And there are several cardboard boxes from various deliveries. The center opens at 9:30 and I’ll try to get there fairly early.
Then I shall attack the front lawn. Several larger branches came down in the wind, so they’ll be tossed into the woods. The smaller stuff shall be raked and subsequently dumped into the woods. Then the yard will be ready for the mowing season. rah.
SIL is scheduled to work tomorrow, so I have to pick up the RoxStar at Daughter’s classroom. I remembered to set my alarms - one to wake me and one to tell me to head to the school. It’s supposed to be a pretty day tomorrow, so I may take her to the playground. At the very least, I’ll let her play on her swingset in the back yard. It depends on what goes with FCD and whether he can leave today to come home. I should probably tidy her basement play area, too. It’s gotten a bit out of hand.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s looking pretty out there today, sun’s out and the sky’s blue. The weather app says “Yet another fucking shitty day” and promises me 12C/54F all day, mostly cloudy, thus it lies.
Busy morning so far, I had a 2hr meeting about timetabling for the Music Dept and have a 2hr planning meeting later today for our exams session. In between, I am supposed to produce a “how-to” document on something the boss doesn’t understand so she passed it to me, and I am slowly working out “how to”…
Fingers crossed for some good news on FIL, Moooooom, I hope it means FCD gets to come home soon.
Got to run, lunch is ready and I need to get it out of the oven before the cat climbs in after it! Yes, mackerel, and at least one cat knows all about it!
Another boring day in no. Illinois. Yesterday was in the low 40s with wind gusts that shook the house. Today is just as cold but no wind. I go for my 3rd round of allergy shots at lunch. I am highly allergic to cats (looking at Ursala Kitteh), every species of tree known to mankind, and dust/mites/ mold. That’s 3 shots twice a week. Thank goodness I’m not allergic to horses. Oh, and I bought new underpants yesterday at the Mart of the Wall.
Well, it’s Monday. The weekend, as always, went by way too quickly.
We had hail, rain, and fierce winds yesterday. Some lowland areas even saw a little snow. We received serious mountain snow accumulation.
It’s currently a “balmy” 34 degrees, and I think temps are supposed to reach a high of 50 degrees today. Spring in the northwest; wet soggy and raw.
I’m really not super excited about working today. More and more I want to retire. I have been eligible to retire for a year, but a very large part of me thinks it’s just too early. The other part of me thinks 38 freakin’ years is a long time to work for anyone and just wants to be done. I’m tired of my time not being my own and I’m just tired of work in general. I want my retirement to be comfortable and I want to be able to do things like go on trips, so, I continue to work. I’ll be 57 in May and it’s kind of depressing to think I’ll probably continue to work until I’m 65.
Ugh, on to other stuff.
FCM, I hope your sweetie gets to come home today and a good solution is found for your father-in-law.
Polar has an appointment at the vet this morning for a booster shot. My husband agreed to take him and I’m hoping he will still do it. I’ve got a boatload of work-related stuff to take care of plus my quarterly review discussion today.
Morning all. Up early so nappage is a distinct possibility. If soccer fields are open, I’ll have a practice this afternoon, so there is that to look forward. And thanks for mentioning Bananas doggio, need to see if there are any when I do my Moanday shop-n-sammich run in a couple of hours. Heading for 65F and N.O.S. today, but rain will be back Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
Taters, I felt the same way, was going to work until I was 66 or so, but I kept working the financial numbers and by the time I was 63 they were more than adequate for my needs, so I really didn’t have any reason to keep on. Hope things get to a point that you can set a date before 65.
OK, all y’all have a good Moanday and we’ll see what life brings.
It is supposed to be so beautiful here this afternoon I wish I’d taken the day off. 68F and sunny and lovely. I didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night - the kids are back at it after a week and a half of spring break, and weren’t able to settle down until way later than they should’ve last night. I can hear overlyboy yawning behind me.
I’m so proud of myself, though - on Saturday, last weekend, I pulled up a bit of carpet in the closet in the family room. Hardwood. So this Saturday I pulled up some more. More hardwood, of the peg and board variety. Things escalated quickly yesterday morning and before I knew it I was also ripping out tacking strips along the edges of the room and I’d pulled up about 2/3 of the carpet in the family room.
Depending on who you ask (me or my husband), the hardwood is in okay shape - finish is mostly intact but there are nails where there shouldn’t be nails, probably where the previous owners wanted to avoid squeaking, and dents where someone got too aggressive with a hammer. I think we can make it work, but my husband disagrees; however, we’re going to try sanding and refinishing first. Everything hurts, but it hurts so good.
Morning, Mumpers! Another beautiful day in SoCal. Supposed to be nice all week, which means wildfires, earthquakes and maybe the odd alien invasion with my luck. Off shortly to forage for supplies and sustenance. Mainly cat stuff, supply-wise. The down-side is that means a trip to …Walmart. The horror!
This afternoon’s beers with a friend will be a little different, since the fool managed to spiral fracture his femur last week. So instead of picking him up and heading to a brewery I shall grab a growler from the closest one and we’ll drink at his place. Already he can stomp from the couch to the bathroom and back, so that’s a plus.
I know you’re not me, but if I may share my experience. I retired at 57 and within a year I was bored enough that I sought employment again. In some ways I’m sorry I didn’t hang in there till I was 62, altho my organization was about to undergo yet another reorg and I just didn’t want to deal with it. Might I suggest that you look for part-time opportunities that you might enjoy to fill some time and pad the bank account a bit before you pull the plug. But bear in mind the same Social Security earnings limits apply and will affect the FERS supplemental. Feel free to email me for more of my wisdom if you think it might help.
FCD called just a bit ago. They were awaiting one more Dr signature so they could take his dad home. Once he gets settled in, my sweetie is heading home. He’s got a meeting in the morning so he plans to drive straight thru. I think he’s insane, but I suspected as much when I married him. Anyway, with luck, he’ll be here shortly after midnight.
I’ve taken the trash and recycling, and I’ve got a couple of quiches in the oven - some for lunch, some for future breakfasts. Maybe some for the freezer. The wind chill is pretty wicked out there, so I’ll push the vacuum around inside before I venture forth to rake. But none of that will happen before the quiche is done. I’s hongree!!!
After storming around like an angry drunk looking for a bar fight, the wind died down this morning. It’s sunny and calm, with a predicted high of 54. I hope calm weather is headed your way, too.
Yep. 176 (driving) miles north of you, the wind has died down and the predicted high today is 49ºF.
After losing the two tops of a cedar in our yard to the wind storms last month, I’ve been looking at a much taller cedar a block over. It looks like it had been topped decades ago, and now it has (at least) four trunks at the top. Those trunks look taller than the tree that was damaged in our yard. If and when they break off, they’re certain to land on someone’s house – or someones’ houses.
