FCD is on his way. I have lunched and I’m about to head out to rake for a while. Retirement is just too, too exciting. Hear that, Taters???

into Thursday for me on the Great Plains of eastern Nebraska. I’ll try to shake my finger menacingly at it and tell it to leave you’all further east alone. Jeepers, I am done with cold weather-I did not sign up for this!
Temps here pushed 80 this weekend. The extended forecast doesn’t look much better. I don’t like heat. I look forward to someday not living here. I miss Oregon.
'Beamer had Spring break last week, which he celebrated by sleeping a lot and playing video games. Oddly, he did not clean his room. As a side note, his counselor assures me that teenage boys don’t seem to understand why clean clothes, rooms, and persons are necessary. I feel like those tugboats in the Suez. A lot of pushing and pulling, but we’re making progress.
My sister has had some ups and downs since her heart surgery. Her heart goes in and out of rhythm, which they are managing with medication. She’s also had an infection, and now pneumonia. I worry and feel helpless, but that’s life. I’ve had 1 shot now, and really, really look forward to being able to hug her. We have had a few outdoor visits, which has been wonderful.
Today’s plans include taking 'Beamette to optometrist, and then I head to Stanford for multiple MRIs.
Happy Moanday. Hugs and best wishes to all.
Happy Monday Mumpers!
We changed our clocks this weekend, so morning was too darn early. I know it’s only one hour, but I wanted it.
At least the sun’s shining, and will continue to do so all week. Per the usual, it will be cooler on Friday, which is the first day of a four day weekend in these parts. We tend to get a smattering of snow in the week after Easter. Hope we don’t get any this year.
Have to start thinking about a big grocery list. I have to go on Thursday to survive the long weekend without supplemental groceries, because the store will be crazy busy on Saturday, since there’s no shopping on Friday, Sunday and Monday.
Think I’ll settle down with the tv for now, and try to get to bed early.
Made my first loaf of rye bread yesterday. Yummy stuff. Gotta make a batch of brioche today for the freezer.
Took the winter coat off the RV. Now it needs a serious bath and some new tires put on it before this year’s travels.
Two more days before our two-week second-dose time is up. We’re planning to do some in-person shopping on April 1st, which is also our 28th anniversary. Yay us!
Afternoon all. Shopping has been completed (including bananas) and the Jersey Mike’s sub was free today as I am a member and had accumulated sufficient points, so all is very well. Waiting for 3pm to see if the soccer fields will be open or not. It’s cooler today (61F) but much better than snow I think.
Forget it Jas, he’s rolling…
flyboy, not much you can do about it, mention it to the neighbors that are affected, but if they don’t care…
FCM, hope FCD has a safe drive.
That’s a marvelous line, is it a nellie-original or did you find it somewhere? May own favorite in that genre comes from the webcomic Schlock Mercenary and goes: “This cup from my adjutant is full of something that tastes like caffeine lost a knife-fight to the color brown.”
OK, need to do some minor things and consider nappage. All y’all take care.
I’ve gotten through my irk (except for some bloody data entry that came in in a .pdf file with hand-written notations
), checks are in the mailbox for the IRS and the State of California, moved my car so Mrs. L.A. can get out to see her patient, brought the trash bin and recycling bins back from the street, got my laundry into the wash, and had a Vegemite & cheese sandwich. In an hour or so I think I’ll get out and walk a couple of miles.
It’s ben a fun weekend in which I learned salsa can go bad. We had taco salads for dinner on Friday and I soon felt a bit off. Overnight was largely sleepless. Feel free to assume why. The next day, I look at the jar of salsa in the fridge - best by July 2020. Urp! At least PWAISDN was spared the anguish as he doesn’t like salsa. A mental note has been made to no longer buy the Costco-size bottles of salsa if I can’t consume them in time. (Actually I think this was a leftover from a pre-pandemic party last year)
The bodega across the street has been doing something noisy to their parking lot - looks like diamond sawing sections to be broken out and repaved. This has caused mayhem with all of their deliveries as the trucks can’t pull into the lot as usual. The drivers are impressive with their abilities to maneuver long semis in a space where I’ve seen car drivers get tangled up. Maybe they should have sent these guys to that ship that got stuck in the Suez.
Just took a break from raking and posted some pics on FB, if anyone cares. FCD got started later than he wanted to and he may or may not get home tonight. I should probably move my car so he can get into the garage, in case he does come in while I’m unconscious. When he’s not here, I park smack in the middle of the 2-car space.
Can’t believe it’s after 3 - I raked for almost 3 hours! I’m thinking I’ll put my tools away and finish up tomorrow. I need to think about what to make for supper… or what to order… either way.
wow yall are more productive than me…some days my only ambition is going from where I sleep to the computer which is about 12 inches, and the highlight of my day is cleaning the cat box and feeding the little monsters …
'Twas truly a distressing morning today. Pour out a bowl of cereal, then go to add milk.
Milk. was. chunky!
Then, that avoided, (relief breakfast called in was an english muffin) proceed out to find the snow cover of the Webber had vanished. Fortunately it had only blown to the edge of the yard and gotten snagged by the bushes. I’ve had that thing for years and never before had it gone scarper.
But on the plus side, a client wants more stuff and I finished the tool I was building. Now to make some things with it.
Stay safe, all!
The sun is shining, a breeze is blowing, it’s 47ºF and I’ve just finished my 2.11 mile walk ‘around the block’.
Got my hair all beautified and will leave for a long walk soon, tossing my hair as I go just 'cause I can. ![]()
I talked my way into making Italian Easter cookies this week. I was waxing poetic about them and saying I don’t have anyone to make them for now, and my stylist–who’s become a friend–said bring 'em in! They’re pretty in addition to being delicious, as they have a lemony icing in various pastel shades.
Aw, shucks. Thanks. It’s an original. LOVE the coffee line!
FCM, glad FCD is on his way back. Hope his trip is swift, smooth, and safe. Who’s helping his mom with his dad’s 24/7 care now? (Sorry if you said this and I forgot.)
sunny, are the MRI’s re: the migraines? And multiple MRI’s? So they’re checking more than one body part?
Also, my formerly teen-aged (Or is that recovering teen-aged?) boy can tell you when it came to room-cleaning and chores, he felt like he was in obedience school: “You! Up! Clean! Now!” It worked, too…for about 2 minutes, whereupon it was rinse and repeat and repeat and repeat.
Dice, you have my sympathy re: clock change. I hope you get a good night’s sleep tonight.
flyboy, glad you’re getting some happy weather up there, northern neighbor.
The seed potatoes are in the ground. After the cold nights this week are done, the green bean and zucchini sprouts are going in. The tomatoes and cucumbers have just sprouted, so I thinking those will go in in two weeks. Mmm… Roma tomatoes for sauce and Purple Cherokees for BLTs.
On the home front, Mrs Magill is doing well. She just paid the doctors’ bills, so there goes the FSA for this year. On the bright side, because she has incredible insurance, we also reached the out of pocket max. Between that and my supplemental insurance, this shouldn’t kill our savings.
I’m also heading out in an hour to get my first covid shot. Fingers crossed that I don’t get a rash like my father did.
nellie - FCD’s youngest brother will be available as needed to help care for his father, but these next few weeks will (I hope) show MIL that she is unable to care for him by herself. She’s finally been convinced that the back surgery she kept insisting on will not return FIL to full functionality. Maybe she’s starting to realize that there’s nothing they can do for him. He’s 91 and, frankly, his best days are far behind him. It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks.
FCD won’t be home tonight. Between the late start and the delays due to construction along the way, all on top of not-so-great sleep these last few nights, he just won’t be up to the long haul. He just called, crossing into SC. He’d stopped to eat, so he should easily make NC before exhaustion sets in. This assumes that SC traffic doesn’t suck as it’s prone to do…
I made a bowl of soup for supper, and I’ll have an apple later. What I really want is a hot fudge sundae, but I don’t have the makin’s here and I don’t have the inclination to go get one. Plus I absolutely don’t need one. So I’ll be happy with my fruit. Happy happy happy…

Started out in smalls, then I was stuffing the Amazon pig, then I got to scan and load the tomorrow delivery stuff into the truck in Door 32. Except there was no truck in Door 32, and all the stuff went down to Door 30. But I get paid by the hour. ![]()
Nothing. But they unstuck the ship today, and suddenly there are bananas in Harris Teeter. [Milhouse]We’re through the looking glass here, people[/Millhouse]
Yay! and if you do get a rash…[Mom]Don’t pick at it[/Mom]. Which reminds me, I need to make an appointment for my second tequilaCOVID shot this weekend.
And if you do get a rash, touch base with a doctor briskly-on rare occasions a post-injection rash is the start of a significant adverse reaction. If your dad had a rash reaction, you are likelier to than the average bear. Just check with a doc if you get one and for sure don’t short yourself the after jab 15 minutes of observation. In your case I’d have someone watching over for 30 minutes. Jus saying~Mumperville wants you around forever
taters, after today, I’m seeing the argument for retirement, ableit, I have at least four more years to go.
Glad your friend is getting around at least a little bit silenus.
cookie, you eat your rye, I’m just finishing drinking mine.
'Twas a rough day. I’m so tired of irking short staffed.
Nelson got to meet a chubby little black and tan chihuahua in building 12 this afternoon. Buddy is 15 years old, but lively and they got in much sniffing and getting to know one another.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I just hope Easter Sunday is halfway decent, weatherwise.
Mrs. L.A.'s new iPhone SE arrived today. The charging cord that came with it doesn’t have a USB plug. Fortunately, I have a Lightning-to-USB cord she can use. She hates changing phones (and other technologies) more than I do. I’m not sure how she signed up, but the phone came to my name and I got a letter from Xfinity saying ‘an authorised user’ changed the email on the account. I think she used her own credit card for the phone.
I really hope Xfinity has better reception than Boost Mobile.
