Yes, We Have No Bananas, An Ever Green MMP

{{{{{MG}}}}}

Hope you can get things straightened out quickly!!

No fun! I’ve had a touchy tummy since my gallbladder came out. I had slight benefit from “off-label” use of a specific cholesterol med, but ultimately worked out that coffee was my kryptonite.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 38 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 61 and N.O.S. for the day. We have a frost advisory in effect for early this mornin’ and early tomorrow mornin’. :astonished: The big plan of the day is to attend Good Friday service at noon (I have ush duty) and to help stage some stuff for Sunday’s outside Easter service whilst there. Outside of that, who knows what the day may bring. LJS will provide fish 'n chips for sup.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriat bein’ about the public attire. Such bother!

Happy Firday Y’all! A Blessed Good Friday to all who observe.

Morning, mumpers! It’s looking pretty good out there, we might even try walking into town today for some essential errands. Weather app says “It’s mild and cloudy with a slight chance of cussing. Dildo shit fuckface von nasal-twat tosspot” and promises me 6C/43F up to 10C/50F and mostly cloudy. Except I can see blue skies and sun…

Mooom my hair’s naturally dark brown and I used to dye in black (back in my teenage Goth days). I’ve been dying it for such a long time, it does look very dark so it’s easy to mistake for black. Also, I always put fresh colour on just before we go on a trip

My hairdresser said I’d need to grow all the colour out before I could have it done professionally because the salon colour wouldn’t take too well on top of years of box dye. Now I just want to cover the greys, but I’m also not that great at applying colour evenly so the grey bits and lighter brown bits come out slightly different depths of purple now. But do I care? Looks like I don’t!

shoe this is the one we bought, you might be able to find something similar on the US Jungle.

We decided to walk into town today and do a few errands to avoid going in on Saturday when the majority of maskless mouth-breathers are out and about. I don’t need much but I’m running out of puppy pads and I need to replace a specific lightbulb that I know I can get in the hardware shop so to town we will go.

Happy Friday!

nellie - so, is that one serving of cookies? They look delicious! And beeyooteefull!!!

My foot is more spectacularly colorful this morning - many shades of purple! But unless I press directly on a couple of spots, it doesn’t hurt at all. There’s a spot just above my knee where something whacked me, and that hurts much more. I expect the purples are mostly due to gravity, since the foot generally stays below heart level - even on the recliner and in bed. It’ll pass eventually.

Daughter wants to have lunch at Harbor Place after we do the aquarium on Tues and I was looking up the various restaurants there. I knew it was a pricey area, but dang! And you know when the online menu doesn’t show prices, it’s gonna exceed your credit card limit! Oh well - it’s not like it’s an everyday thing.

Incidentally, coasters aren’t mandatory at FairyChatEstates… as long as you don’t set your sweaty, dripping beverage vessel on any of the furniture or floor. I’m not unreasonable.

Plans for the day - laundry. It’s 29° to start and only going into the 40s, ergo no outdoor work for me. Since I cleared a bunch of stuff out of the basement, I may give it a good sweep and take the slightly rumpled area rug from this room down there. It’s not working well up here, and there’s lots of bare concrete downstairs. Until we decide what to do for flooring, we’ll use several area rugs.

I’ve also been thinking about getting back into my studio. I have several pieces that have been sitting for a couple of years waiting to be fired. But the kiln vent line is destroyed, so I need to replace it first. And I need to organize the mess in there and reconstitute some clay - I’m sure much of it is dried out, so much water and kneading is in my future. Time to get creative again.

I guess it’s a basement day. So Happy Firday!

Good afternoon Mumpers!

Read everything and forgot already. Brain is a bit overloaded.

Wednesday we got the call that the toilet seats we ordered some time ago were finally in, and could be delivered. Made an appointment for Thursday at 1:30 pm.

Thursday morning at 11:30, the pump in the clothes washer gave out.

So before we even got one thing fixed, something else broke. And it’s a long weekend, so the technician will be in on Wednesday. As we bought the washer in 2005, got it repaired in 2015 (replaced a switch) and 2017 (something more expensive), we’re expecting it will need to be replaced. And as the dryer is stacked on top, they should be replaced together.

Yes, appliances are sentient. Otherwise, how would the washer know to die 1) just before a 4 day weekend / beginning of school holidays, 2) the same month we get our yearly bonuses 3) just after we bought a new receiver.

Honestly, it’s just inconvenience. We are mostly caught up with laundry, and we’ll probably have a new machine, or a loaner, within a week.

Spent the morning making lasagna, which supposedly makes enough for 6-8 people. I used three loaf pans, and put 2 in the freezer. One loaf pan is probably 3-4 servings for us, so that takes some of the pressure off for cooking in the next 2 months.

Going to make carrot cake to take to a friend’s house, and am considering making cookies as well. Maybe I’ll do something which calls for sprinkles. The Italian cookies look good, but the recipes I found call for a lot of powdered sugar. Which I thought about buying, but ended up not buying, due to potential storage space issues. So I’m going to try vanilla icebox cookies, which calls for making a log of cookie dough, rolling it in sprinkles and then slicing. Sounds like my speed. I prefer baking to cooking, but after the lasagna, I’ve spent a little too much time in the kitchen.

Happy Friday!

People are mentioning cookies. Yay!
Nellie, those cookies look so good!
I should make some more cookies, when I have all the ingredients.

Nellie would you please DM me that recipe? Mrs Magill was admitted to the hospital last night for a fever, and I think she would appreciate some Italian Easter cookies. She was talking about her aunt’s Italian Easter pie earlier. Massive meat pies are not quite in my wheelhouse. Cookies, OTOH.

First load in the dryer, second in the washer, 2 more in deck. I’ve swept/vacuumed half the basement and I just finished rolling up the area rug that’s in this room - it’s about to go downstairs. Then I can finish sweeping/vacuuming down there. I think I’m going to call the guys who did our carpet and see what they can do with the basement floor. Right now, it’s concrete with stains and chips and and area where we tried to even one section. I’m thinking vinyl will be fine, but I’ll see what they recommend. If it’s not too $$$, we’ll get it done.

Back to the salt mine!!

And some of them are darn right rude. @EmilyG, just hang out over here with the mumpers. No rude or poopy heads here. We’ll listen and pipe up with helpful ideas if we have any, but we’ll always listen gently and open-mindedly.

Back atcha {{{ XOXOXO }}}. Those are some pretty cookies! One platter per person I hope. If that’s my platter it looks like you can fit another row of cookies around the edge.

I’m thinking one of you tech-capable ones among us needs to start a Mumpers recipe thread for us, with cookies at the leading edge.

Me too. I’m thinking of saving up to get a bread machine because I just love bread that much. But cookies and brownies are my specialty, along with pies. I’ve been known to do a mean scone or biscuit.

{{{{{{ :cookie::pie::cookie::pie::cookie: Mrs Magill }}}}}}

Morning all. Would swear I posted something earlier today, but swearing is frowned upon here so I’ll just admit I forgot. Only 37F this morning and it’s supposed to duck below freezing tonight, so calling off Thurs/Fri. soccer practices for Easter seems like a good idea now.

Not a cookie maker, but I have to admit those look nice, nellie

Emily, we all have bad days. Trick is not to let it make the next day a bad one…each day is unique and we make of it what we will. You’ll be fine (and we’ll be here with you).

OW, envious, haven’t been on a coaster in many years and given my…generous…size, not sure I’d fit in many of them…but I do love the experience.

FCM, yeah, I’ve been to a few places that don’t advertise the price…and you get what you paid for…

Dicey, the lament of homeowners is the Song of the Beaver: One Damn thing after another.

Watching the steam trains in Strasburg, PA on Virtual Railfan…something about steam that always interests me.

All y’all take care.

You mean like this? We’d need to track down GT to update it, tho - she’s - she’s the owner. She tried to make me an admin, but I never could figure out how it worked.

The basement looks almost presentable! I got the floor mostly swept/vacuumed and I moved the area rug. In a little bit, I’ll contact our carpet folks and set up an estimate.

FCD has inherited his parents’ stubbornness regarding his physical condition. He can barely walk up and down the steps because of his knees. Will he consult a medical professional? He will not. OK, on one hand, I can’t blame him - neither of us have been impressed with the orthopedists in this county. But there are others in neighboring counties. However, I know I could get a better response talking to a wall.

♪♪ Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to marry pig-headed folk… ♪♪

Second load is about to come out of the dryer, fourth load is headed for the washer. Onward!!

I think we used to have one of those. Somewhere. IIRC, Gardentraveler (GT) used to curate it. Mom may know how to find it. I can’t remember.

Ah. I see that Mom came back and answered you. Good.

I read your thread in IMHO, MLE. I can’t offer any useful advice, or any you’d want to hear, but I’m sympathetic to your plight. For whatever that’s worth.

About the meds my doc proscribed for me, we don’t know if they’re the answer. It’s just a first shot at figuring this out, based on his past experience. We’ll see.

Sorry about Mrs. Magill getting incarcerated again. Hope she gets sprung soonest.

I made a double batch of jambalaya last night, at Wifey’s request, so leftovers may be dinner tonight, although a pizza ad came on the TV last night and she commented on how good it looked, so I dunno. Decisions, decisions. BTW, did you know that the Johnsonville people make an andouille sausage? It isn’t OMG full of cayenne, either. In fact it could use a little more heat. I used some for the first time last night. If, like me, you prefer to allow your victims diners adjust the heat of their food to suit themselves, you might try some.

Just spent some time perusing the old Mumpers recipe collection. There’s some names in there that, sadly, I haven’t seen for a while. %sniff%

Time to get busy.

Wizard I hope your wife’s fever gets sorted out and she’s home again soon. H*ck cancer.

Yesterday the temp did reach a quadrillion degrees (after factoring in my discomfort and rounding a bit), and today we’ll do it again. After that it’s supposed to move back down to around 70.

Someone keeps sending me cheap garbage from Amazon. A bath toy for kids that would fall apart into pieces if ever used, boxing gloves that aren’t fit to pad a shipping box, and today it’s a massage gun. I’ve tried talking to Amazon (they told me not worry about it) and checking my account. I’m thinking I might start writing return to sender and dropping them off at UPS. I don’t need more stuff, especially this stuff.

I don’t know what we’ll do for Easter. My parents want to do church (remote), some kind of family thing (distanced), and watch Stanford in the NCAA championship. It’s a lot.

I think I’ll head for my second cup of coffee and see where the day goes.

Happy Friday all!

I’m glad you thought the cookies looked nice. I added a few more to the platter before taking it to my Vietnamese hairstylist and his family. Magic, I’ll gladly PM you the recipe, but a word of warning: they’re pretty time-consuming:even making a half-recipe took me most of the afternoon (for 5-6 dozen cookies). It helps to have helpers! As kids, we used to always make one into the shape of our first initial. You could make one in Mrs. Magic’s initial; just increase the baking time.

Emily, I think baking is therapeutic, especially cookies, cakes, or breads. I hope you can bake some soon!

MetalMouse, no longer a homeowner, but I heartily concur with the saying.

Moooom, I loved that pot in the photo you posted and hope you DO get back in the studio. Talent like yours shouldn’t be left idle. (And I’d happily give you more cookies!)

sunny, I’d bet money those Amazon items are a brushing scam:

Such scams work like this: Unordered packages, either from Amazon or other large companies, show up at your door without you ordering them. Often, these packages come with no return address. Usually, the items inside the packages are lightweight and cheap to ship.

The Better Business Bureau says that the companies sending these items are simply trying to improve the ratings of their products at ecommerce sites. This leads to more online sales. They are using your address — which they probably somehow found online — to make it appear that you are a verified buyer of the merchandise. The companies will then post fake online reviews praising the products they sent, a review that you supposedly wrote.

[more here]

The danger is you don’t know what other information the scammers have: your bank account? Social security #? Keep an eye peeled, change your Amazon password, and most important, call Amazon customer service again. Tell them you suspect a brushing scam. (Don’t just say you’re getting unordered goods.) Amazon will launch an investigation. They’re often used in brushing scams and will want to know.

Mrs. L.A. is still without a phone. To recap: She was tired of not receiving calls, and not receiving voicemails and texts for days after they were sent, so she decided to switch from Boost Mobile to Xfinity. (I complained about the poor reception here, and Boost Mobile basically said ‘Sucks to be you.’) She got a new iPhone SE to replace her aged LG.

So Xfinity was supposed to switch her service, retaining her number. Monday they said it could take 24 to 72 hours, but she can use her old (Boost) service in the interim. She soon found out that she had neither Xfinity nor Boost. She called Xfinity this morning, and they said she’d have to turn off her phone for 15 minutes because she doesn’t remember the passcode she’d entered Monday. They said they’d call back in 15 minutes. 45 minutes later, no call. Mrs. L.A. has a patient to visit, so she’ll call them when she gets home.

In other news, I discovered my iPhone 6S has a ringer mute switch. Somehow I’d turned it off. Not that anyone calls me. I did see that I had a voicemail yesterday. I think I’m in trouble. The recording said they were going to take legal action if I didn’t press 1 or call them back. :stuck_out_tongue:

Should we start a GoFundMe for your bail money??

Laundry is done and shrimps are thawing for supper. FCD just got up from a nap. All in all, a lazy day here.

About 6 months ago I got a message saying that my SS number was being used fraudulently, my criminal file was being downloaded to the court at that very moment, and a warrant was being issued for my arrest. I’ve been sitting here with my bags packed waiting to go to jail ever since.
