Yet Another Change the Board Suggestion

All too many times I’ve hit Post Reply, started to answer a question - mostly in GQ - and realized that I should have checked the poster’s location field first.

With the Board so slow or totally unresponsive these days, the waste of time to go back, check, and return to reply is too much to go through.

Is there any way that the location field could be added under the name in the reply screen? Maybe this would encourage people to give helpful locations when they want useful answers to their questions. OK, it won’t. Still.

On some browsers (OK, maybe it’s just Firefox), you can do Ctrl-Click on the “back” button. This opens the previous page in a new tab. It may be a little faster than to “go back, check, and return to reply”. At least you won’t risk losing a half-written reply.

Don’t think we can make the location field pop out where you want it. Can you use the quick reply screen more often? Then you just have to scroll up.

That doesn’t work if you want to quote an earlier message, though.

Let’s see what happens when you click the “Quote message in reply” box.

Whaddya know.

Hey, to get this to work you have to manually click the “Quick Reply” option (like you used to have to do it all the time to get Quick Reply to work) and then click the little checkbox there on the left bottom of the box.

It automatically quotes the last post above.

Okay, it’s not perfect. But it works. And if it’s that big of a deal you can always manually quote as you like.

Great tip! Thanks.

My post used the Quick Reply box, but clicking on the little box never brought up the checkmark. I may have disabled it at one point, but if so I don’t remember how to undo that.

Even when you clicked on the ‘Quick reply to this message’ button first?

I did not know that.

Thanks!

Aha. Now I see what you’re referring to. Let’s see if this works. If so, thanks.
