Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy/foggy with a predicted high of 80 and mostly N.O.S. this afternoon. It bein’ Moanday I shall defilthyfy da cave. Rah. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house so I shall head over there around four-thirtyish to do prep stuff as is my wont. The excitatement that is my life knows no bounds! Also, this bein’ Lent and all, I shall participate in Lent-like (Lenty? Lenteny?) activities on Wednesdays. One is at noon at the downtown Whiskypalian church, a Lenten meditation and N.O.L. The other is at five-thirty at good ol’ St. Pat’s, soup 'n sammich followed by a Lenten study and Eucharist. Seems like enough to get me all pioused up does it not?
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then I shall commence to spiff up da cave. Rah.
Hey - I semi-sorta-slept in this morning! I did wake a few times, but drifted off and made it till a bit past 6:30! I was tahred.
Woke to an email from one of my sisters - she’s sold my accordion for me. Of course this is the 3rd time she’s said that, so we shall see what happens.
There was a very red sunrise but when I let Higgs out, I heard the sounds of something falling - either rain or ice bits. Ultimately, it’s supposed to be a rainy day in the 50s. I’m thinking it’s a good day to read. No real plans for the day anyway.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Scheduled off today, but I still gotta go in. Apparently I’ve given up days off for Lent.:dubious: It’s also cold and rainy.
No, that was the biiiiggg race lottery, the other one that I entered.
The race is in it’s 39th year. (Mostly) same course the whole time (only the ending has changed…& not for the better :(). Part of the course is thru a neighborhood that was even sketchier in the early days that it is now. My sister used to call it the “Run for Your Life” & just this weekend someone said that motivation for not dropping out was they’d steal your shoes on the corner if you stopped. So in those days, one really was running from an apex predator…in the (urban) jungle.
She’s holding a (one-way) bus ticket for you to go to TX.
It’s raining and 35 in no. Illinois. Saturday it snowed again, at least 2 inches. A flood advisory has been issued. I’m kinda cranky. Had 2 migraines this weekend. swampy, are you permanently in charge of fuds for mens’ night? You seem to be the one marinatin’ and chillin’.
It’s a cloudy 39 degrees outside but it sure felt colder than that when I let the dog and cat out.
Last night was the second night in a row that I slept through the entire night.
I kept dreaming about brushing my teeth and I couldn’t find a place to spit.
I suppose that is better than dreaming you have to pee and can’t find a toilet.
I have a lot to do today, I didn’t get near enough done yesterday.
I’m making some changes to my diet - doctor’s suggestion. I can deal with the tummy issues, but yesterday I was dizzy a lot. I finally broke down, ate some junk food, took a nap, and felt a lot better. I go back to see him on the 1st, so I’ll bring up the dizziness.
Sah-son had a fun project to do last week, he had to design a CD cover. Along with turning it in, the class also had to post the front cover on the message board.
He has to critique two of them and it was fun to look through the pics and see what his classmates had done.
He got an ‘A’ on his.
I knew he would be good at graphic design, he has a lot of artistic talent and a good eye for detail. It’s too bad that he doesn’t like it.
This crazy weather is doing weird stuff to my yard. I have green grass poking up through the snow out back.
I’m looking forward to the few warm days coming up. Crepe myrtle is supposed to be pruned in February, this week should be the perfect time to do it.
Morning all. 63F going up to 75F today and looks to be staying the 70’s all week. Having just paid a whopping gas bill today, that’s alright with me.
Otherwise I’m starting to organize for my job as 6U Girls soccer coordinator for the Spring season, which means organizing coaches, assigning kids to teams, and in general trying to keep everybody happy (Ha!). Hopefully there will be enough coaches this season that I don’t have to do it (I don’t mind, 5 year olds are wonderful, but I’d rather coach older kids).
Now need to get myself organized for the repair guy coming at 1100.
Blurf. I had a terrible night. I just could not get comfy no matter which way I tossed and turned. I have awakened with a massive headache. I had an appt to get my hairs done but canceled it due to not feeling well. Tis cloudy and was misty when I took the dog out. I suppose I shall park myself in front of the TV and watch some more Olympics. This is my last day off in almost two weeks. I just hope I am physically ready to go back to irk.
Sorry, doggio - you’ll just have to make do with this.
We have erranded after breakfasting. I reassembled the closet, but I had to partially disassemble it to get the shelf back in. Thank goodness I have decent spatial reasoning or I’d still be there trying to force it in.
It’s dreary, **FCD **is working in his shop, and I think I’ll read for a while because I can.
Afternoon, mumpers! I am at irk, and it is irksome. Every job I have started today has generated more work and become more complicated than it needs to be. I also had a meting scheduled for 12.00 that started 45mins late and then didn’t finish until well after 2pm. All that, without the benefit of a cup of tea. Monstrous, I tell you.
I have a busy week planned, got bootcamp at the gym for three nights, session with my PT tomorrow night and then on Thursday I am going to a thinema screening of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” by the National Theatre Company from some posh theatre in that there London town.
It’s all go for the weekend too - birthday drinks for a friend on Saturday and then Sunday night will be spent in the company of two of the most awesome gents I know…Danny Vaughn and Dan Reed. It’s the third round of Snake Oil and Harmony, a very eagerly awaited night of songs and stories so definitely something to look forward to
I wanted to get in on the spoon discussion. We have what we call tablespoons and the smaller version is a teaspoon and the long handled one is also a tea spoon. It is all very confusing. None of these are to be confused with a serving spoon which is about three times the size of a tablespoon.
We have fish forks but they are much smaller than what was posted. I suppose they are for picking crab out of their shell. We have regular forks and salad forks. None of it matches. My favorite fork to eat with is the cheapest one from Walmart that comes ten to a bundle. I cannot eat with a nicer fork here at home. When I eat salad I must use a salad fork.
That concludes the flatware discussion. We refer to it as silverware even though there is not a piece of silver in the bunch.
Been awake and doing laundry. The temps are rising but so are the rivers (and we gots lots of those) due to all the rain. Tomorrow is going to be like 70 and sunny so checking the tires on the Sportster seems like a plan for today. The OW is off at a ladies brunch (traditional every holiday) and I’m irking tonight so I guess my day is set.
Our actual silver, for the most part, went away during the Hunt thingy all those years back. I don’t miss it. I do have a few simple pieces of actual silverware (real pre-1800 antiques) for the history events but mostly I use wood. Silver transmits heat too darn well for some of the things I enjoy eating.
We don’t have actual soup spoons and I want some. With the beard and all teaspoons just don’t work well for soup and tablespoons just always felt clunky. I just haven’t been able to get soup spoons in anything close to our usual daily pattern. We do have them in the special “company visiting” set but ----- I ain’t visiting company most days.
Speaking of spoons, don’t try to substitute your flatware spoons as measuring spoons.
Once I shared a cookie recipe with a friend and she called me up mad as anything at me because the cookies didn’t turn out.
To my surprise, she didn’t have any measuring spoons or cups, didn’t even know what they were.
She was using an empty peanut butter jar that had markings on the side as a measuring cup, and using a larger spoon as a tablespoon and the smaller one as a tesapoon.
Morning irk shift is done, guess I should see if the cat wants in, put my clothes in the dryer, and put some chicken in the oven.
