Yet another soda thread (or: Pepsi vs. Coke)

I can tell the difference, but in the grand scope of things, they taste very much alike. Why do you think they spend so much money trying to convince you they’re different?

Myself, I drink Slurm!

I prefer Coke, but Pepsi has this truck with hydraulics, dubs and a bangin’ stereo system that’s crusin’ around in the commercials, which is pretty tight.

Diet Vanilla Coke is the beverage of the Gods.

Whereas Diet Vanilla Pepsi is regular pepsi mixed with bat urine.

I think Coke’s diet drinks are better than Pepsi’s in terms of tast. In packaging, or rather bottling, Pepsi has the edge.

Pepsi’s 1 Litre bottles are clearly superior. Also, Pepsi came out with the 24 oz bottle, which is the perfect size for a soft drink. Coke countered with the .5 litre, which contains less soda than the 20 oz bottle. What were they thinking???

I prefer Pepsi over Coke, but my favorite soda is Dr Pepper.

Diet Coke. Regular Coke, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi (and most other pop) are way too sweet (although I understand the colas may taste different in Canada due to use of real sugar as the sweetener).

Gimme the Doc.Big grin
Ohhhh… I got to pick a cola? big pout Gimme the coke over the pepsi. Coke has better flavor than the pepsi, who’s main flavor seem to be sugar.

Pepsi is just wrong. Too sweet. Coke … ah, blessed Coke.* It’s got that awesome bite to it. There’s just nothing better than an ice cold Coca-Cola. Thank you, John Syth Pemberton. Let’s all join together in a little melody from my early childhood.

“I’d like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony.
I’d like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company.”

And, for the record, in this area of the country, soda is an ice cream concoction or a white powder you put in cookie dough. Besides, I’m all about respecting regional differences, but really–what does a carbonated beverage do in your mouth? It “pops.”

*Actually, my current carbonated beverage of choice is a Coke/Diet Coke mix.

Our University has a contract with Pepsi, and I loath them for it. It kills me that I can use my meal plan to buy condoms, NoDoz, and Pepsi. But if I want coke I have to get a ride to walmart to buy a couple cases. After being subjected to it for the better part of a semester, and going between the two, I will definitely say that as far as secondary beverages go (Mountain Dew Live wire, Dr. Pepper, Wild Cherry Pepsi…) go, I prefer Pepsi products. For Cola though, you cant beat coke. Not that they both arent soul sucking, teeth rotting, earth destroying conglomorates of evil, but of the two evils, I prefer the oldest.

See, depending upon whose, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing…

So take that, Horseflesh :stuck_out_tongue:
And thanks, Sonyadora for not making me be the only insane one here.
aryk29 thanks for linking that for us “pop” people.

I prefer Pepsi, (I order diet Cokes in clubs so I don’t drink them too fast…), and noticed that in certain areas (Chicago, LA, and Philly come to mind) that the ‘default’ soda is Pepsi (i.e., you go into a Diner, and order a coke/soda/pop/whatever, you get a Pepsi); unfortunately here in the wonderful tri-state NY region (home of PepsiCo in Westchester), the default soda is Coke.
Of course, this survey is based on a laughable small sampling size.

We have a supermarket chain here, PathMark, which like all supermarket chains has house-brand soda. Besides the typical Root Beer, Cream, and Cola flavours (and Orange! ), it has:
Spring Up, which tastes like 7-up would if it was good.
Mountain Path, which much it’s prototype evokes the image of deer pee.
and, best of all:
Dr. Path, the prototype of which escapes me… :dubious:

Fountain soda all tastes the same to me, but give me a bottle or can of Coke and I can tell it from Pepsi. I prefer Pepsi.

Agreed. Dr Pepper kicks both the colas asses, as it is the sweet eldritch drink of the Great Old Ones.

I live in West Virginia. Solid Pepsi country here.
Dr. Pepper rules.

Then Pepsi.

Then (insert all generic brands here).

Then Coke, which I understand actually makes a great toilet cleaner.

I can gag down regular Pepsi (though generally I have to have no other option, and one time my ex had to force me to drink it so I wouldn’t get dehydrated). I can’t even force myself to drink regular Coke, no matter how thirsty I am. It’s one or two itty-bitty sips and then I’m done.

With diet sodas, on the other hand, the situation’s different. I really like Diet Coke, and it’s my drink of choice. I don’t like Diet Pepsi nearly as much, but I will drink it happily if that’s all we have. Incidentally, I grew up on Diet Pepsi, and switched over from it when I went to college, and thus had a choice and the chance to taste both.

Every Pepsi product I’ve tried makes me queasy, while I find Coke products to be delicious and refreshing.

I think Pepsi and Coke are pretty much interchangable myself. (oooh the sacrilege!) I can tell the difference between them though, but I don’t have any great preference for either. When I have had a lot of coke I find having some pepsi a really nice change, and vice versa. I find Pepsi’s greater sweetness really pleasant after the more subtle, dryer taste of coke sometimes.

My favourite cola right now is Old Georgia Cola, which is the in house brand of Farmfoods (a chain here in good old Eng-er-land). That is yummy! It has real coca leaves and kola nut extract in it,so it says on the label. Just bought two bottles today! woop!

ps. I like Dr Pepper better than either coke or pepsi

Coke and Pepsi are just trying to figure out how the hell Dr Pepper got to be the best soft drink on earth.

Power to BigK!

While they are similar, I can easily tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. I prefer Pepsi myself, for the most part (unless we’re talking about Coke from McDonald’s. There’s something about McDonald’s Coke that makes it far superior. My father’s commented on this phenomenon as well). Pepsi is a sweeter, lighter taste, but does go flat faster–and flat Pepsi tastes worse than flat Coke.

On the other hand, I like Mr. Pibb (or Pibb Extra as it’s called now) much better than Dr. Pepper.

I can’t get down diet soda of any sort at all.

Everytime you drink a Pepsi, God kills a kitten.
