Not to be outdone by the likes of Duke and Missy, I went with my wife and our employees on a bustrip to this B&M Casino last last Saturday.
Went straight to the poker room there and signed up for their Texas Hold’em NL tournament. At $50 a head, it included the casino’s cut of $5 and another $5 for the dealer’s tip, but I was still jonesing for live poker. I started playing against the locals in town where about 15 of them knew each other or has played against each other on a regular basis. Actually, they knew each other pretty well which put me at a severe disadvantage in the beginning, by moving all-in on several occasions to steal blinds or calls that I made early. We all started with $5000 in chips (with 100/200 blinds starting and doubled every 15 minutes) and I got down to about $3600 before I started getting comfortable. Having being dealt AA in the hole wasn’t such a bad thing also, when I had two raises before me before I doubled the previous raise. They other 2 called, and the flop was ragged and dirty. I went all-in for my remaining $1600 and the other two still had too much in the pot to let go, so they called thinking I had Ace-Face and they had pocket Js and Qs. Surprise! I tripled up…and took the lead on our table.
I went into bully mode and some of them started folding or I had them dominated, but I took their chips. We started with 11 on our table and I took out 5 of them and the other 3 dropped out. There was only 3 of us left at our table before the other 7 or 8 from the other table came over to us to make the final table. I clearly had the lead with about 32K of the 110K available. I either still bullied some players and/or dominated others, and even drew from behind and won. I even played A-2o in the hole (calling a raise), with a flop of 2-4-6 rainbow, I pushed this one guy all-in (who I feared the most in the beginning of the tournament) who had AK. He was so pissed when a 7 and then another deuce came up on the river to send him packing. These guys started getting worried about me.
One honorable mention went to the guy who finished 3rd for about $132…when we merged tables, he had just a $500 chip (and the proverbial chair to go with it) left and he was the small blind (which just happened to be $500), he didn’t look at his cards and two other players were in the pot…after the board came up and nobody paired with their Ace-rags, he pulled up his pocket 9s to triple up…he ended up winning some pots and hung in to finish third. That was pretty impressive.
Now it was down to me and this younger asian kid who only had about 16K left to my 94K. He sat to my immediate left the whole time during the final table without calling or playing against me and vice versa. He got hot and lucky and either doubled up or stole my blinds or even outdrew me…most notably our last hand…he called my all-in of 24K when I had AQo to his 56o and drew a 6 on the river to beat me and win 1st place (40%=$352) and I got (30%=$264) for 2nd. I couldn’t get mad at this kid; what he did to me was the same thing I was doing to the other guys, but I’m just glad to finish in the money and actually feel that I can go in and actually smack down some good players at any event.
That whole tournament only took 1.5 hours, which meant I had some time to kill. Had lunch with the wife after she tanked on some slots and then I went over to the 3-card poker table. I know, I know…what horrible odds this game has…but it is addicting to play. The minimum was $10 on each spot (Pairs plus spot AND the Ante)…I always like playing the last spot before the dealer, so I sat down and got $100 in chips and promptly lost $60 of it before I hit a flush. Then two hands later I got 5c6c7c…straight flush for 40-1 = 400 plus the ante bonus and play for a total of $550. For the next hour, I built the $100 up to $840 before I got off the table when they switched dealers…I left on top with another straight for $90 more. Hehe…I love this game! Then went back to watch the wife lose another $100 on the slots…fun times. Went to dinner to this buffet which kicked ass over any Vegas buffet that I ever had…I mean…I actually have a choice between iced crab legs and steamed crab legs??? How do I want that New York steak…you mean it’s on the grill right now? Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Italian food…anything and everything short of Haggis was there to eat and it was free because it was thrown in as an extra for our bus trip, plus $10 gaming credit. We had more winners than losers on the bus…I’d say about 3/4 of us won a minimum of $100+ and I think my wife was the big loser by losing $150 max. One lady hit 2 slot jackpots totaling $9K. I can’t believe we made out like bandits in there.
I think I will have to go again…Anyways, I just had to share this with you guys…
