Jonathan and Lady Chance and Baby Kate are safe and sound up the mountain, as of about 1:00 this afternoon. He’s got satellite internet, so it’s been completely knocked out. Not to be out of the loop, he called so he could have Dave post something in the Diplomacy thread.
We’re all snuggled up in bed watching TV. Simpson’s 300th episode and popcorn.
I’m not sure exactly where it is. I’ve been searching online for news about it, but haven’t been able to find anything. I have DirecTV and can only get DC area local channels, so I can’t get Channel 11. Their website doesn’t mention anything.
Would that be on channel 13 out of Baltimore, Darkwriter? I doubt if the York, PA channels will have anything about Frederick, and I can’t think of another channel for the Northern tier of MD.
Just before dark I made one pass with the snowblower and moved 12-14"-thank heaven this is light powder. Heavy wet snow would have power out everywhere.
The latest posting on NOAA’s website calls for near blizzard conditions tomorrow, with total accumulations of around 20", with more possible over the Larel Highlands and South Central mountains. (I checked York County, PA)
Thankfully, I stocked up last week, and have enough kerosene to keep my parrot from freezing if I do lose power.

I think we need to start making a list for a Spring fling! Get all the Philly, South Jersey, and DC dopers to come up to Inner Harbor or some place else central. Maybe we could take over one of those neat little bars in Fell’s Point. Thoughts? Par-T:cool:
Damnit Opal! You’re having all the fun that I should be having. Although I was promised “handsom” compensation for being stuck at work, I’d much rather be out with my Jeep pulling folks out and goofin’ in the snow. I’ve always wanted to do the volunteer 4x4 thing and help out the hospitals.
They’re called trampolines - I hadn’t thought about that - people who can’t get to their cats may find them submerged…
We’ll be getting out there later this morning digging the snow off the boat and off the dock so we can get to the showers. If we get really ambitious, we may head to the Metro, but I’ve just got one pair of shoes with me - sneakers. Not the best choice, I fear… I’m feeling the boat shake as the wind whips thru the rigging - wonder if it’ll blow all the snow off the decks?? Yeah, right.
Weather guys are now saying the worst of it should be past here in a couple of hours - I’m gonna time them! I’ve already rescheduled my flight out to tomorrow morning, assuming BWI will be open by them.
Actually, after this weekend’s Birthday Dope, my husband suggested the same thing. We’re docked in the Inner Harbor and he LOVES taking folks out on the boat. We can only handle about 6 passengers at a time, but it’s still doable over the course of an afternoon!
If it’s a little bar, we really might take it over, too! There were 29 of us at OpalCat’s birthday party on Saturday, and that was with the weather scaring away another half-dozen people.
When the weather gets warm, IMHO what we should do is book a picnic pavilion at a state park somewhere in the area for an afternoon. There’s more freedom to mix and talk with different people, and less background noise to make it hard to hear people over. Whaddaya think?
The York, PA channels (my local channels) have had lots of information, but little about anything outside Central PA. What I do know is that Frederick was supposed to get more snow than we did; everything south of us (i.e. south of the Turnpike) got more than we did.
I just looked outside, and it looks like you could ski down our front steps. Airman shoveled the walk and cleared the steps last night.
And I just looked out the back window, and the snow is almost up to the windowframe.
I’ve been taking pictures, but I don’t have a digital camera. When I get them developed, I will post some. This is UGLY.
36+ inches in the valley and I got into work today on time at 7:30!
Only my inner dignity prevents me from using foul language in my brag, today.
I spent a large chunk of yesterday shovelling the 120 feet of driveway and the 5 vertical feet of plow-raised snow at the end of the driveway. That got my truck out. Lady Chances Jeep is in the turnaround and still buried so she’s home with Baby Kate. We took some pix. I’ll post them when I can.
Sounds like we may be in for a repeat of the holiday weekend. I’ll be happy if we only get enough to shut down the Government again on Friday instead of more Unscheduled Leave. I don’t have any more available leave! I’d have to take the day off without pay if I can’t make it in.
To top it off, I slipped on a patch of ice on my way to work Monday, I had to use what little leave I had left for that. :insert pained smiley here:
My sweetie is supposed to be flying out Friday night to come see me. If this stupid snow closes down BWI, I will be very unhappy. And we don’t wan’t me to be unhappy. No we don’t.
Oops, I see I left a bit out of my last post. Let’s try this again.
I hope that we either don’t get enough snow that it won’t affect my being able to get to work or that we get so much the Government shuts down. I’d hate to have to take leave without pay.
This morning’s dusting of snow inexplicably turned my usual 40-minute commute into an 85-minute monstrosity. And there weren’t even any accidents along the way! I’m totally clueless as to why the delays, other than the usual generality of “Nobody around here knows how to drive in this.”
