No, he’s deadly serious. I’m in total agreement with him. We’ve explained our reasoning in the other thread.
I am one - never heard a Libertarian claim the the church is evil for wanting to pass legislation to take care of the poor. They WILL say that the church can handle it themselves.
You’re a strange flavor or Libertarian, then. Coercion = bad. Forcing people to take care of the poor = coercion. Therefore, forcing people to take care of the poor = bad. Doesn’t matter who originated the law, it’s bad, according to Libertarian thinking.
Hey, I was whooshed. I can freely admit it, hang my head in embarrassment and look totally silly for letting those Bloody Marys go to my head and color (!) my reading comprehension.
However, on the off chance that he was being serious, I didn’t want to let that go unchallenged. So I’m a dork. That’s okay. I’m sure I’ll still be even dorkier tomorrow.
Quoted for truth. The man is just a bigot, and like most bigots, he’s just not that smart. The concept that “religion” isn’t some monolithic entity is beyond him. Judging from his last post, the idiot still doesn’t see why actions against an entire group should not be based on the actions of a minority within that group. If the dumbass was in charge, he would probably invade Mexico the instant he learned that a gang of Mexican teenagers murdered somebody in Los Angeles. He just doesn’t have the intelligence to see the difference.
I am totally kidding. I don’t hate black people…I hate Jews.
Seriously, it was just a lame attempt at a joke mocking the OP of this thread…and the fact that we are getting pit threads as a result of a thread where it was explicitly presented by that thread’s OP to post your most extreme views, which by implication means (like mhendo, I believe, said upthread in this thread) that aren’t necessarily to be taken seriously.
Jeez, I said “thread” a lot there.
Don’t worry, I won’t quit my day job!
That’s because you’re a whiny little douchebag who is held in contempt by most of the board.
Shut up you sanctimonious little twat.
Oh go back to Giraffe’s board and quit insulting such highly esteemed members of this one, why don’t you?
Shit, we don’t have a ninja smiley. When are we going to get a NINJA smiley? What the fuck for the love of Pete? Winky smilies are soooo 20th century! When will this board’s software be more recent than that of the space shuttle that killed people?
Right. But that applies to EVERYONE, not just those who are religious.
I’m sick and tired of being told around here that I’m deluded and that I’m only out to oppress everyone who doesn’t believe the same as I do. I don’t feel persecuted, no. But I’m fucking sick of being stereotyped, and I’ll be damned if I’m not going to say something about it. Yes, I’m religious. No, I don’t give a shit what anyone else believes, as long as they’re not harassing me. Believe or don’t believe what you want, just don’t be a dick. That applies to religion, politics, nationalism, economics, whatever.
(Sports, on the other hand, is a different story)
How can you be certain you aren’t deluded?
How can you be certain you aren’t a quadriplegic experiencing an illusory existence by means of psychotropic drugs and a neural implant?
The religious people are the ones who are trying to force their beliefs on everyone else, and each other. That is why they need to go away forever, because they initiated this attack
Atheists like me don’t go around telling women to have abortions, forcing people to fuck prostitutes, or giving everybody drugs. We feel that if you want to do that, the option should be there. Our beliefs do not prevent religious people from deciding for themselves that they don’t want abortions, hookers, or pot.
Name ONE instance where I tried to force my beliefs on you. Just ONCE.
(Oh, and “they started it!” is your argument? What are you, five?)
Irrelevant strawman. Did I say YOU personally were doing it? No, I said religion and religious people. Its clear what you are trying to do, which is show up as an example of a religionist that somehow prove there are “good” ones out there. But you are a tiny minority in an ocean of religious zeal. Sure, there may exist someone, somewhere, at sometime who is religious that has absolutely no interest in talking about his religious, making laws supporting it, or sharing it with anyone else. As I said, I welcome those people since they would leave me alone. Should I also ply my answer with countless examples of others who should escape my wrath? There’s no reason to, it would just make my answer too long and unreadable…well, longer and more unreadable…
So its much easier with a blanket statement: Religious people push their views on others. Therefore, they must be eliminated
I pretty much believe what YogSouth said. It’s just impossible to do. And if I were emperor/king with a big fuckin’ army, I’d take away everybody’s guns too!
And don’t get me started on people’s “right” to have children.
It seems perfectly simple to me.
Religion is bad, because it tried to force their beliefs on others, and especially because it used to persecute those who didn’t fall in line. So obviously, the thing to do is for atheists to force their beliefs on others. And to persecute those who won’t fall in line.
I mean, duh.

Shodan
And this ladies and gentlemen, is Exhibit B on why Atheists enjoy such a delightful reputation in America. When the only Atheists we hear from are those who wish to round up and kill ALL people of religion, in a method not seen since Stalin took care of those troublesome Christians, we can see why public polls drop Atheists to such a delightful aura of respectability. Personally, some of my best friends are Atheists [rimshot]. I know that they are not all cut from the same cloth as the persona that YogSothoth and **Der Trihs **might portray here on 'Dope. However, to continue to defend a desire to eliminate all Religious people betrays a level of psychopathic leanings that gives us pause.
Once again, are you asking me (as a religious person) to cease using my faith to inform my opposition to the Death Penalty, my support for programs for the poor, and my work towards helping the homeless? Or do you just wish to pick and choose when I am allowed to let my faith inform my actions (when they coincidentaly coincide with your own political beliefs)?
Are you helping doing charity only because you’re religious? If there was no god, you’d be a selfish, murdering twit?
See, I don’t really think religious people who helps to alleviate suffering because of their religion are really good people on the inside. Sure, we may get the benefit of your actions, but if you are only being good to kiss up to a non-existent god, or to spare yourself from hellfire, then you’re just a coward. An honest person does good because they are good, not because they are forced to. Do you think prisoners cleaning up garbage on the side of highways are good people? No, they have a sergeant with a shotgun watching over them. Same deal
I’ll give you credit though, I would rather be near someone doing good, no matter their reasons, than someone doing evil. But such brainwashing is easily corrupted. Mother Teresa had a fetish for suffering, refused to give out contraceptives, and claimed abortion was evil. Your kind of “good” can easily be turned with a few passages in a dusty old book. Its the same reason why a lot of homophobes can be perfectly nice to a straight person but think that gays deserve lesser rights, can’t adopt, and any instances of them being public about their views is like forcing the rest of us to tolerate their lifestyle.
Besides, you didn’t read my reasoning, and obviously Shodan didn’t understand it, or else you’d see that I’d only want you gone if you try to force your beliefs on us.
How about I make you a deal? I’ll apologize and renounce my views to any religious person who swears they will never use their religion as a basis for law, never spread their views to someone who doesn’t want to hear them, never vote for a politician because of his religion, never vote against one because of his either, and admits all religions are equally valid. Can you do that?
All that hate is going to make you die early, yog.
No, I understood you fine. You believe that mentioning religion in public is an attempt to force my beliefs on you, and that’s wrong.
You mentioned your atheism in public. That is forcing your beliefs on someone. So you need to be rounded up and sent to the re-education camps.

Shodan
